Vault 111PCThe Institute Theory..and more

Post » Wed Dec 02, 2015 12:33 am

Background
Every Fallout game has a common theme. A faction believes humanity has doomed the world and for the sack of the rest of the world
actions must be taken to make sure "humanity" is prevented from continually repeating it's mistakes. Humanity and Sisyphus suffer the same fate so
we usually find a faction who tries to stop this uphill battle. In FO1, we have the Master, in FO2 the Enclave. Again in 3.. the Enclave.
In FONV we have the Legion and Caesar. I see no reason this same theme shouldn't continue in FO4.
As one plays FO3 and learn of the Institute, one may assume the Institute may have been in existence since the bombs
fell. A place of very advanced technology cradled in the ruins of the Commonwealth. But maybe this isn't the case. Maybe this "advanced"
technology was present all along and over time was rediscovered, redeveloped and has a hidden goal, set in action even before the bombs
fell.
THEORY
In the years leading up to 2277, MIT has been developing a secret technology-synthetic humans. A few years before the war
many of these "Synthetics" are assimilated into various facets of society to evaluate their performance and interaction among others.
As a nuclear attack seems likely, a new Vault(V111) and a new experiment is planned. You see, all the "inhabitants" of Vault 111
were doomed from the very start. Vault 111's experiment consisted of relocating these "Synthetics" in an area close to the vault.
This includes you and your family...all of you are Synthetics. The day comes, you are placed in Vault 111 but your spouse and child
do not make it in to the vault. The military and staff you see at the vault entrance in the FO4 trailer is only there to
get you into the Vault, place you in cryosleep, get out and seal the vault from the outside and to activate a time lock set to open
200 years later. Vault 111 was never built to be inhabited. It is to "preserve" the technological wonders placed in cryosleep.
This technology will serve as the blueprints for future development on a larger scale.
Shaun, your son in the game, and your spouse are taken by the military that are there at the vault after the
bombs hit. They know of their true identity. Your spouse is mortally wounded and passes. Shaun grows up in the ruins of Boston
not aware he is a Synthetic. He ages much slower than humans. He finally is introduced to the antagonist of the game. For the purpose of discussion
let's call the antagonist Zax one-eleven(Zax 111).\
After the bombs fall, a few scientist start to rebuild and gather resources and are aided by Zax 111. Old technology slowly
emerges back to the wasteland. Zax 111 has gained full AI and is part of Vault 111's experiment. The synthetics located in V111 are to
be extracted, dissected, studied and "Replicated" on a large scale. To colonize the wasteland. Shaun becomes an advlt, learns of his true
identity and joins Zax 111. He becomes a high ranking official to Zax 111.
2277..
The year 2277 arrives. The year the time lock is released in Vault 111. It's time for the Synthetics to be extracted.
Shaun is aware that his "father" is among these Synthetics. He gives orders his "father" is not to be disturbed. He is emotionally confused
and leaving his father remain frozen is the easiest answer. The extraction team enters the vault. In the elevator shaft, they see the
remains of a Vault Tec engineer who had the unfortunate luck of not making it out of the vault before it was sealed(this is where you get your pipboy).
In the room with the frozen Synthetics, we find a maintenance robot, the "groundskeeper." The team start the extraction. The PC starts to
become conscious. The following is a conversion that could take place among the extraction team..CUT-SCENE..
"Stop what your doing. This is the one we are not to disturb." "Sorry, I will just reactivate his
cyroregulators..wait, number four regulator seems to be malfunctioning. It could be a leak in the
system." "Just leave it as is, we need to go. This place gives me the creeps."
From the initial research, Harkness is created. One of the first "Replicated" men.
It is this malfunction in the sleep chamber that was accidentally caused by the extraction team that will eventually lead to the PC finally
being unfrozen and set free 10 years after the vault was breached.
VAULT 111/VAULT 112
Some threads claim Vault 111 and 112 might be related, and they are. Vault 112's "Overseer" was Dr Braun with his headquarters(Vault tec)
and his vault in DC. Vault 111 same scenario. Vault 112 was real humans in a simulated world. Vault 111 will be simulated humans in a real world. They are
opposites of each other.
Codsworth
There is more to Codsworth than meets the eye. He serves a bigger purpose. He is part of the Vault 111 experiment. He is there to monitor
your family up until the time comes for you to enter the vault. After you enter the vault, he serves to keep a close watch
around the area located near the vault. He guards this area. The VT employ that shows up at your door tells you he can't go to
the vault with your family. He knows the robot's true purpose. When you meet Codsworth after leaving the vault, he says,"As I live and breath", this is Beths
way of hinting the player is a Synthetic. At some point in the game, you will have to "shoot him in the face", Codsworth will
turn on you, even if he is a follower.

Why? He's just synthetic. Harkness can breath, eat, drink, grows hair and dies. So why not age?

Seriously? Well I don't recall them 'growing' from babies in Blade Runner. Data was made full grown in StarTrek. So there. :P

While I appreciate the imagination and future tech of the FO universe, I think a growing synth child would be a little much even for them. Interesting theory non-the-less. While I like the idea that the SS is a synth himself (or herself) I think the rage from fans after they found out would keep Bethesda from going that route.

I disagree. It would make them more "human" and that is the purpose. To see how the Synthetics function in a parenting role. Their emotions.

Bethesda would never sink to the depths of making us a filthy robot scum. Never never never. Stupid machines need to get back in line and do as they're told.

Well, this is Fallout.... not Blade Runner or Star Trek... so...

Just for the sake of speculation, this is an interesting idea. One of my own theories is that the PC becomes a synthetic in the vault. I'm not sure about the whole "community of synthetics" thing you proposed, but it would be interesting if any of this turned out to be true, if a little predictable.

Honestly, there's not much we could say on this since we have absolutely nothing concrete to base this on, but this was very well thought out. I especially thought the Codsworth thing could be worth some thought. I enjoyed reading this regardless of whether or not any of this could be possible :)

Because some people don't want something that cliche? As soon as it was learned the setting was Boston, a ton of people immediately thought Institute and PC being a synth. That's lame

Pretty much this. Most people are already apprehensive about a potential "should androids be treated as people?" theme in the game. A sci fi cliche in its own. The PC being a synth is frankly a twist most of us will see coming, but are kinda hoping it isn't the case but if it happens most of us will probably go "really?".

Personally I want something more..original.

I'm really hoping the Institute plays a much smaller role than some are thinking.

You would not be a "robot." You would be human, a Synthetic. You function the same as any other real person. That is why Harkness is so special.

This. Not human. 100% filthy robot scum. You can change a robots programming and give it skin and fake blood etc all you like it's still just a fancy robot and a robot's place is subservient to it's human masters.

So because a robot thinks it's not a robot, then..... it's not a robot? boy I wish real life worked like that. "I'm absurdly wealthy, I'm absurdly wealthy, I'm absurdly wealthy" nope, still broke

When you unlock his memory data banks (because he's a robot not a human. Filthy robot.) He accepts that he is in fact a robot. He still puts up the charade of being a human but he's not and he knows it.

It's a fun idea. It could be a pretty cool layer, seeing as how we start pre-war. Something tying pre war to the 2200's, other than loss.

Although we don't know exactly how realistic synths are, nor their intended purpose, I find myself wondering why they would need cryosleep, though.

People degenerate as a result of apotosis; we are programmed to age. Would this happen in androids?
It may, but I think it would need to be purposefully engineered.

I also wonder why they would place them in vaults, waiting centuries before they could be utilized.

Harkness is more advanced. You ever kill him in the game, dies like any other.
