Vault 118

Alex noticed James was talking to another person, and both had their Radiation Suits off. He thought about how tight the suit was, and made him feel like he was dying from the heat slowly, like a pot roast in an oven. He sluggishly made his way to James, and speaked to him

"James, so is it safe to take these damn suits off? It's killing me wearing this thing."

A few minutes later, Max found himself walking through the wasteland toward where he left his helmet, with another grumbling officer behind him.

"Stupid Max... why must you always take off the helmet?" he said, "Always screwing it up Max. If it weren't for you, we would not be here!"

Max turned his head a little as he walked.

"Uh... while it may be my fault a little that your not constructing stuff, I dont know what your talking about with the rest." Max said, the dirt crunching beneath his feet. It was surprising that there seemed to be nothing out in the wasteland to greet them, other then... wasteland. Perhaps the Vault was built away from civilization?

"Hey... Roy..." the officer said, his hand going into his pocket and digging something out. "Want.... want some.. chems?" he opened his hand to reveal a bottle in it, many purple tablets visible, "There.. there cherry flavored!"

Max let out a sigh as they reached the area he recalled setting his helmet at. He looked about, catching a glint of light a few feet away. Approaching it, he could see the equipment set down on the dirt. He picked the visor up first, rolling the helmet so the back end was touching the ground. He set the Visor back in before turning toward the direction of the Vault.

"Listen here, junky." Max said as he began to walk, his strange companion following and making strange noises that could be compared to a duck, "I dont know what the heck is wrong with you, but you might want to go see the doctor."

"NO!" the man said, Max stopping and looking at him for a moment. The man looked back at Max, scratching his head. "What were we talking about?"

"Lets just go." Max muttered, walking once more. They reached the construction zone half a hour later, Max's strange companion running off and waving his arms around. Max watched as some of the other security officers tackled and restrained the man, one escorting him into the vault.

Max then looked about for the commander, awaiting further orders.

Alex asked James if it's safe to take off the suit, James nodded. "Yes, it's clear. I'll make an announcement."

He keyed his intercom again. "All personal who are using the Radiation suits may take them off, it's clear. I repeat, the area is radiation free."

James smiled, and gave Alex a pat on the shoulder, only to have his concentration interrupted by a strange officer being tackled by the others. He rolled his eyes.

Max returned to James, awaiting further instructions.

"You may go take the day off if you wish, you've done enough. Or if you've still got some power inside of you, you may go help the others constructing."

Max nodded to James before going and aiding the workers for a little. After some time passed, the security headed toward the vault, going to the cafeteria and setting himself at a table. He let out a sigh, looking his glove over. Much dirt could be seen. He could only imagine how his face looked.

Going to get some food, and then probably go scouting.. or sleep. Max thought. Sleep? There is a entire world to explore Max! Lets go see if we can find any new weapons besides these lasers. His 10.MM wouldn't save him if some giant evil monster attacked the town-to-be in the wasteland.

"Ehh, would probably be better if we did the thinking after the eating Max." he said to himself, setting his head against the table and waiting for a waiter.

After getting the confirmation, Alex took the suit off, and breathed in the air. It felt different than the Vault air, but it seemed okay. He decided to take a break and headed back in the Vault to the cafeteria, and take a break.

After grabbing an ice cold Nuka Cola, he sat down next to Max. He has seen him before, but thought out of everyone, he might be willing to go with Alex.

"Hey Max, I don't know about you, but think about it. The door is opened, we can go anywhere now. Don't you think maybe you and me could go, and do some... Exploring?"

Alex took a swig of the Nuka Cola, and enjoyed the refreshment. He finally appreciated the air conditioning the Vault had, and took a second to breath in the air. Grinning now, Alex continued talking to Max.

"I noticed out in the distance is a barn. Good chance there is probably some stuff there we could get are hands on. Weapons, Armor, Beer, you name it, we could find it. We'll just sneak past the men, or say we'll go 'scouting'. Just think about it."

Alex took another drink of the Cola, and waited for Max to respond.

Smiling, James walked back towards the vault. Along the way inside, he noticed Terry shouting for someone to help. James rushed over Terry.

"What's going on?" asked James.

Max looked to Alex, taking a bite into a burger he ordered. He raised a eyebrow, considering the offer for a moment.

"Something tells me you really just need someone to be your bodyguard, buddy...' Max said, before taking another bite. Chew... swallow. "However, I am planning on going out there, so why not? When should we go?"

"Urgh, nothing, except that I'M BURNING ALIVE HERE!" Replied Terry, still wearing his radiation suit, sans the helmet.

"Hey... Where's your suit? I thought people who were working were supposed to be wearing them?"

Alex smiled, and spoke to Max.

"Hard to say, I need to gather some stuff to make sure we'll be set. In the mean time, i'd suggest you are ready too. I guess night time would be best. Since you are a guard, you can just get through. I'll stick by you, and they shouldn't notice, or care."

He finished his soda, and held on to the bottle, noticing that there were already glass shards nearby him.

"I guess night time. Keep in touch."

Alex walked to the trash bin, and disposed of the bottle. He started heading towards his room, and was thinking about taking a nap.

Frowning, James looked at Terry.

"We don't have to wear the suits anymore, one of the security team members just scanned the area, it's clean. You can take off your suit."

James was unsure as to how to help, but maybe the whole problem was just his suit, nothing more. He didn't know, and waited until Terry would take off his suit to see if anything changed.

The doctor lead Jack through the lower levels of the vault, listening to his moaning. But he was right, it did stink down here. "You know I can't disclose those details, Jack. Confidentiality and all." He eyed the halls, they were barren. "...We need to find a room to secure. Then I think I'll go," Harold looked around, making sure they were indeed alone down here, "some weapons". He then continued walking, scanning the walls for doors and access points.

A bit further down, he found what appeared to be an old cafeteria. It appeared to be unused, perhaps the residents didn't need a second, so they left it. Mr. Webb didn't really care, it was a good shelter with an extra supply of food (other than Jack's bag of goodies) and a supply of water. "This'll do. Right, you get unpacking. I'm going to go gather some...Tools." The doc dropped the hefty duffle back from his shoulders infront of Jack and began to walk off. "Those are the medical supplies. Hide them somewhere really safe, ok? Don't want the others confiscating them." He then moved up the stairs into the upperlevels.

"Right. The armoury chap is getting a bit old...And I should know. Hes got dementia, haha." Harold arrived at the corridor to the armoury. For his act, he ran down the hall way as quickly as possible, hammering the door release buttons. The once again rushed into the armoury to the man's suprise. "Haro--" He went to say, but the doctor quickly cut. "Q-Quick! We need...*Pant*...More weaponry. Attacks...On the surface, Mutants!" The old man looked concerned, and due to Harold's trustability, produced a bag and filled it with batons, laser pistols and 10mm pistols, all with a complement of ammo. "You...Stay here. Guard the ar-armour incase they get in. Goodluck!" And before he could say another word, Harold had dashed off, weaponry in hand.

He slid round the corners, making a break for the stairs. Thankfully, everyone was outside or cowering in their quarters, so Harold managed to make it into the lower levels without an interruptions. "I'm back." Placing the bag on one of the tables, he slowly unzipped it, showing Jack the haul. Taking a laser pistol and some energy cells for himself, the doctor began to barricade the door. Firstly, he overrided the outside door panel, making it useless. Then, through his immense science skill, he disallowed the overseer's control on the door. "Alright Jack, help me put some chairs and tables in the way, just incase."

Terry took his suit off.

"Ahh, that really is pleasant. Say, do you want to go and explore a bit? Judging by the landscape, there isn't really much to attack us. I bet we could also get our hands on some guns from security."

Despite his better judgement and training, James couldn't pass up an opportunity to see new gadgets and gizmos to play and tinker with. He sighed, and nodded.

"Sure, what did you have in mind?" he replied with a smirk.

Terry grinned and said:

"I bet if we were to convince the guy in the armoury to give us the guns we'd simply we able to walk off without anyone batting an eyelid."

((Okay, Zalphon, you better read this post. You do a lot of things wrong. Like those two line posts. Also, how you are all knowing. How do you know what a ghoul is, and the slang term of the name. Please change the post style. ))

Jack Doherty

Jack took a pistol, not knowing how to use one. But all those times reading Guns & Bullets have taught him much. He turned off the safety, checked the clip, full, and it was obviously a 10mm pistol. Thank god he read those magazines or he would know NOTHING about guns.

"Okay, Harold, whatever you say, i'm you're man.".

He had hid the food. And in differant places to. He had three stashed of food and meds down here, now. One under the table, one in he backpack in the corner, and another one in the fridge.

He began placing tables in chairs in front of the door, hoping that they wouldn't need the barricade.

((I have a feeling me and Harold are going to become raiders.))

The doctor smiled. He had no intention of staying here for the rest of his life with Jack, and he was sure Jack wasn't going to stay here too long either. Once the rest of them were dead, they'd leave their little stronghold and seal the Vault. Maybe, if some people were lucky enough to survive, they'd let them in...Maybe. And they were going to die, it was impossible for them to survive. All the medical supplies were gone. All the food was gone aswell. The only person with true medical training was Webb himself. He loved being incontrol, and being down here, he had an underlying control.

He shifted chairs and tables along with Jack, and soon, they had formed a lattice of these objects, near impentrable. He wiped a few beads of sweat from his forehead, smiling. "Good job, lad." He walked over to the kitchen area, pulling a cup from a rack there. He placed it to the water dispenser and watched as the ice cold liquid poured into his cup. He took a long swig and gasped afterwards. "You know, Jack, I'm glad you're down here with me. To be honest, you are the only decent person in this Vault. Everyone else is...Unsatisfactory." He placed the cup back, sitting on one of the few remaining tables left.

Harold also began to examine the weapons within his bag, eyeing each and everyone of them. He took each and every laser pistol in turn, including his own, and gave them the once over. Although he was no expert in the weaponry field, he was exceptional talented at science ingeneral and often read the works of Nikola Tesla. They all seemed to be in very good condition. It wasn't a suprise. They'd been hardly used seeming the Vault hasn't had any real issues. He smirked, turning to Jack. "Not just you, me aswell." He refered back to his companion's former question, assuming he'd remember.

Jack chuckled at the fact that they both were two of the few that didn't get sick.

"Truth be told, i've always liked you more than most in the vault myself. Especially Terry, that guy things he's great because of a little wine collection. And between a charasmatic doctor, which is you, and a cook with basic firearms knowledge, me, I think we'll survive down here.".

Sure, he had friends in the vault, like James, Max, and, to a lesser extent, Alex, but survival always comes first. He was glad he was here with someone else, too. Power in numbers.

Max stood outside the Vault, the night sky blanketing the Wasteland. He knew not what he was getting himself into, only that he had to fulfill his duty as a protector of the people... even if that meant going into places he did not want to. Hopefully, replacement guns that did not fire lasers but still hurt would be available. Max assumed America would of had its civilians arm themselves before what Max called Judgement Day happened.

He let out a sigh, looking into the Wasteland.

"Are we all thats left..?" he asked himself quietly.

Alex woke up, and assumed that it was night. After getting a cup of water, he grabbed his bag, and headed outside of the Vault.

Outside, he saw Max looking up at the sky.

"It looks amazing, don't you think?"

He walked towards Max, and spoke again.

"Well, I got my bag, along with a Pistol I managed to get from the armory. The old man seemed startled when I entered, and told me to arm myself."

He opened the bag, and showed him the 10mm pistol, along with the clips of ammunition.

"Ready to go explore the wastes? Seeing as you are a guard, there shouldn't be any problem with us leaving."

Max nodded to Alex.

"Alright. But before we go, I am going to lay down a few ground rules. Dont go wandering to far from me, and if you think it might harm you, get me. That is all.." he said, turning and beginning to walk through the complex. A few patrols could be seen moving through the colony, Max nodding to them as they passed by.

"Where are you going Max? This is not your shift." one of the guards said behind a visor, most likely using it for protection.

"Me and my friend here," Max replied, making a gesture to Alex, "Are going to scout out a little. See if we can... find anything to help repair robots, or anything our scientist can study."

The guard looked at Max and Alex a moment before nodding. He then continued his patrol.

Max looked to Alex, "Lets go...'

Alex looked back at Max, and started walking outside of the Vault perimeter.

"So, I was thinking we could start by heading over to that barn, it looks like we could go there and get a better view of the wasteland."

He pointed towards the old barn out in the distance, along with the windmill that somehow stood the test of time, and elements.

"Might as well be a starting point. Let's head towards there."
