Vault 5 was comprized originally of 100 scientists, 50 male and 50 female and were already paired before entering the vault either by pre-engagements or by contractrial consent to keep the population of the vault going. It was arranged that in this vault that no two couples should be related in any way either between each other or to the other 98 people inside the vault.
The number 5 was given to this Vault to signify the 5 most common insects they would be studying: Roaches, Flies, Ants, Wasps, and Spiders. Each species of insect would be contained in three seperate rooms with fifteen rooms total to run the experiment successfully and would be fed on nutrient rich paste to sustain them. As well each room would contain several mating pairs to ensure that the specimans would not slowly die off.
In the first group of rooms the insects would be subjected to an oxygen rich environment. In the second set of rooms they would be subjected to increased radiation levels at normal oxygen levels. And in the third set of rooms they would be subjected to a combination of both. These experiments were to find out what course nature would take if any of these events occurred naturally in a controlled test environment.
Since the results of the test were held to be of utmost importance the people in Vault 5 were not given any means to execute their test subjects if things went badly. In fact, Robo-Brains were stationed in the vacility as well to act as helpers and to ensure the compliance of all the personel in the vacility. If any personel threatened or harmed a test subject the Robo-Brains were programmed to exterminate said offendors.
The test results are as follows:
Control Groups 1: Oxygen Enrichment
Roaches: Slight growth increase
Flies: Slight growth increase
Ants: Slight growth increase
Wasps: Slight Growth increase
Spiders: Slight Growth increase
Control Groups 2: Radioactive Contamination
Roaches: Growth increase in comparison to a house cat, Slight Mutation: Harder shell
Flies: Contamination killed the test subject
Ants: Contamination killed the test subject
Wasps: Contamination killed the test subject
Spiders: Contamination killed the test subject
Control Groups 3: Oxygen Enrichment and Radioactive Contamination
Roaches: Growth increase prevelent, size increased to that of a medium dog, Mutation: Harder shell and appearance of Loose Hive Mind Organization
Flies: Growth increased in comparison to a house cat, Mutation: Increased aggressiveness, Spits a small damaging stinger-like dart
Ants: Growth increased in comparison to a house cat, Queen is of monstrous size, Mutation: Increased aggressiveness, Harder shell
Wasps: Size increased substantially in comparison to a medium sized dog, Slight Visibal Mutation: Harder shell covered in wirey hairs
Spiders: Size increased substantially to about the size of a cow, Mutation: Harder shell, Web building has stopped instead the subjects use web to drag their prey to them, abdomen covered in exoskeletal spikes
Robo-Brain Recorded Notes: Test subjects escaped, vault population destroyed by test subjects or were gunned downed by Robo-Brains in accordance to programming....
