Imagine vaults that you would like to see on FO:NV;)

Vault 23: All residents were "rebels": dressed diferently, listened to diferent songs, some were hippies... Those that society kind of looked down upon. Surprisingly, due to a strong and charismatic leader they survived as a society and by the time of FO:NV they broadcast their own "alternative" radio station.

Vault 14: All women that entered the vault were pregnant and due to give birth arround the same time. This vault was design to test the level of stress the residents could take listening to dozen of babies cry (also sleep depravation). Results are too explicit to be described here.

Vault 7: All residents were "Gronak: The Barbarian" fans and formed a society inspired on the comics worshiping Gronak as a God (kind of medievil age minds with lots of tech)

Vault 7 sounds pretty cool. It would be a really good place for melee characters. That's probably one of the best Vault ideas out there right now.

Vault 24: This vault was designed to test the corrupting effects of "power" in society. The vault had several hundred residents, each with a predesignated job before entering, and supplied basic equipment to last 200 years. The vault had a few different rules though. One, ABSOLUTELY NO WEAPONS, no weapons were allowed in the vault and any improvised ones that are found would result in a severe beating by the police force and 1 month in solitary confinement. Two, decisions and conflicts would be resolved in a new voting system, if you have a job you can vote, but your job also determines how strong your vote is, with the overseer's being the strongest. Three, there will be no robobrains or mister handys, but a local police force, which has the right to subdue and imprison any resident they find dangerous, excluding the overseer. ( keep in mind the police force has no armor or weapons either, just fists and numbers.)

After the vault closed things went exactly as expected, with the overseer getting to decide most things with his vote, and the police force abusing their rights. There was one man in the vault though who vault-tec specifically chose and gave a free spot in the vault to. Mr. John Garnier. Vault-tec had monitored John for years, and seeing him devote his time to the needy, volunteering in his spare time, and donating part of his pay-check each month, vault-tec saw him as a naturally good person and asked him if he would like a free spot in the vault as part of a fake lottery. Upon entering the vault John was given a strange locked box with his name on it by a vault-tec worker exiting the vault. All he was told was to keep it with him at all times. John did as asked. John had the lowest ranking job in the vault, and over a course of 10 years John would recieve random beatings and imprisonments while the other workers and overseer simply overlooked it.

Upon returning to his room one day John noticed the strange box he had recieved 10 years ago was open. A time lock mechanism had revealed inside the box was a small plasma pistol with plenty of energy cells inside. So the next day John returned to the Overseer and workers as they were voting and brought up a motion, to make himself Overseer. As everyone in the room laughed and one of the overseer's personal officers approached John, he pulled the plasma pistol from his sleeve and shot the officer in the head killing him. Everyone in the room goes silent as John asks for a vote. Everyone in the room votes to make John the new overseer. After being made overseer John fires the plasma pistol again, killing the previous overseer, as John sits in his new chair. over the next few hundred years John and his offspring become tyrants ruling over the vault with the only weapon in the vault being passed down through John's family.

until a certain courier boy comes along and opens the door...........

Vault 54- A vault comprised of stubborn, always think their right, never resolve anything people. Stubborn men, disobedient children, and free spirited
women(someone save us). Most were raised as brats and had bad parenting, lawyers, and other occupations where they always got their way or would argue to the death.

Vault 72- All occupants were of poor descent and were given authority over the rest of the populance, the rest of the populance were from rich and welathy families.

Vault-99 In this vault everything is normal cept for the intercom system it would play for the next 50 years and be locked for such time and play only one song. and it was "Surfin Bird" on full blast. Test- see how long they would last with the same sound. Results- they didnt last a week.

Vault 24

Haha, that's actually pretty cool. Like the story that came with it too.

Of course, it will be crazy to walk into a Vault, armed to the teeth, and the only threat against you is a weak overseer with an old plasma pistol. From there is could end with you as their overseer, letting them go, or simply just unleash a massacre.

Time to see if I have anything interesting...

Vault #:

Along with other vaults, there was an experiment to test living conditions for the possibility of space travel to a new planet. In this Vault, the effects of small spaces was tested. Hallways were only wide enough for one person, rooms could barely fit two people, and the ceiling was close to the floor. Half of the Vault is filled with normal people, and the other half of the Vault is filled with Claustrophobic people.

Vaults 24 and 25

Upon their creation , to the outside world these two vaults looked identical. For all purposes they were just that. They were designed to open after 100 years , each had 500 residents , identical power generation and weaponry and entertainment but they differed in ways that they residents wouldn't realize until they had entered the vaults and the doors had closed. Both Vaults were stocked with the best food available at the time , but the only liquid to drink was water spiked with additives to make it taste terrible. Once inside the residents started to notice a strange fact about all their electronic entertainment and reading material. Every piece of entertainment was based around propaganda against the other vault. This propaganda continually stated how the other vault had been given far better supplies and equipment than the other and that the residents were fools for having chosen the ones they did. For testing reasons there was no way for the vaults to communicate with the other. The only other piece of information given to these two vaults was the knowledge that an underground spring was located underground half way between the two vaults and digging equipment provided for them would be necessary for getting it.

The experiment within vaults 24 and 25 was to test the consequences of propaganda and miss information on two separate groups of people and to test what their reactions would be once they finally were released and met each other. In short it was to test what would happen in the case of an extended cold war , without the threat of weapons.

Of course after the 100 years were up and the vaults opened , the real test began. The two groups started societies above ground outside their vaults and both tried to get to the water first. Since than both of the two large settlements have been at war.

Perhaps the courier can convince them to put a side their differences? Perhaps he will join one to destroy the other? Or perhaps he might convince them to destroy each other just like their ancestors did , and than take what is left over.

Vault 28 - A vault filled with a vast archives of books and intellectual minds. The vault was designed to preserve knowledge for future generations after the apocalypse and to ensure that old world literature would forever be around. However, after a couple of generations the descendants became extremely bored with books and rebelled by burning all the books. Unfortunately the denizens of the Vault never seemed to have missed the book explaining that fire eats up oxygen...

Vault 33 - The entire vault was filled with cheaters and sleaze bags that made their living off of scamming others in their lives. The vault's purpose was to see how the con artists would operate in a setting where their only clientele were other scam artists. After about 100 years the vault would open up and the descendants of the con artists would flow out of the vault for new individuals to scam. The descendants set up town not too far away from their old home using the vault as a tourist trap where individuals could see the great old world...For a fee. They even set up a souvenir shop with outrageous prices. 50 caps for a T-Shirt? Are you serious?!

Vault XXX:

A vault designed to function a normal vault for two generations: after which the only people with true pre-war expertise would be old, possibly senile, and otherwise barely capable of communication. At this point the overseer would be commanded by the Vault AI to initiate the vault protocol.
This protocol would cause things to begin breaking: things which the older generation would have been able to fix with ease, had they been young, but the younger generation would not be able to fix.

The Mister Handies would also malfunction: destroying (by night) various internal systems of escalating importance to survival, and performing few repairs by day.
Included in the Vault would be all the normal supplies (water chips, tools, a GECK), but their manuals: contained within sealed containers would be uninformative. No informative manuals on farming, fishing, or hunting would be included. The vault would open when average age of the original "experts" (people who could use the GECK, who knew how to farm, scientists, and doctors) was 70.

This vault was designed to test the societal implications, and survival potential, of having the entire knowledge base be contained entirely within a group of people who are commonly ignored, and possibly senile, or unwilling to help others.

The purpose would have been to ensure that, should all computers malfunction (the great flash), and all manuals be lost, that the Enclave would be able to successfully re-start their lives from scratch having only the oral tradition of the elderly, in a culture which shuns most oral traditions.

(everyone does remember that the Vaults were designed to test the inhabitants' abilities to survive in various scenarios reminiscent of problems aboard a spaceship, the Enclave plan to escape Earth in event of global thermonuclear war, right? Not just ironic situations in which people die)

vault 19
100 men 900 women all of which believed six is wrong
vault jumpsuits were man thongs for men, and sport bras and shortshorts for women.
all entertainment material (until the overseer types in the comand) would be pormo movies, magazines, comics, novels, and romance novels.
20 days after the door is sealed "relationship enhancers" would be added into all meals.
40 days after the door is sealed pheromones would be vented threw the air ducts to heat things up.
after 4 months the jump suit machine would only produce 3 sets of male and female clothing every week but would offer cod pieces string bikinis instead.
the birthing center is twice the size of the vault's residential area with its own doctors garb producer.
after 6 months a secret wall would open to reveal a dispenser for viagra and lube
at 7 months the pheramone dose would double.
at 9 months another hidden door would produce diapers
at 1 year another hidden door would open to reveal a dispenser that would produce 1 condem a day.
at 3 years the pheremones would stop (via the overseers code if he so chose) and the vault would revert to a birth control society.

test, to force mass reproduction then try to quickly convert to controlled birth.

vault 33 same as vault 19 but no birth control implementation at all.

vault 41 same as 33 but no medical facilities.

Vault (# here)

All the art, movies, books, and magazines in the Vault are those that have been banned in schools and by people considered radical by the American 1950's mindset. This includeds pormography, communist manifesto, Mein Kampf, Catcher in the Rye. Most of the movies were pormographic or violent in nature or were directed by people considered radical. The Vault had over 2000 men and women, 95% of them were no older then the age of 23, none of them had childern of their own. They were all considered good, wholesome young advlts by the people running the vault experiments. The Other 5% were men and women older then the age of 35 and were suspected radicals and even anarchists. Vault had a number of drugs available to the vault dwellers.

Vault was meant to stay closed for 40 years.

(Again how is this a contest?)

A vault made for Congress and Senate families; only the war happened too fast and only the technical crew finishing up was inside when the doors closed due to seismic sensors activating from bomb strikes [locking down the vault].
Five or six guys in a vault built for 2000 ~and with an aggressive, robotic security force ~now active, and them without badges or paperwork of any kind.

~That was my http://planetfallout.gamespy.com/mods/255/Area101 in the PlanetFallout vault contest... Where you had to actually make the vault as a playable level.

Vault (# here)

A normal vault from the looks of it. It was build close to a aquifer (undergound lake). It was designed to slowly leak, the vault dwellers were given little to no means to stop the leaks. The vault's door was designed to Jam and can only be opened from an outside source. Over the years the Vault will slowly give way and sink into the aquifer. The vault slowly filling over the years.

Vault 38-
A vault that was only available to college Freternatiy members. The mission of this vault was to figure out how beer would be affected once
irradiated so all the residents became permintley drunk and have mutated limbs. It's Overseer an ex astronaut is named Tony Simmons and is
dreading living in this vault and will do anything to get out of the vault alive without killing its residents or letting them raom free in wasteland because
they're deadlier than deathclaws if they dont drink more than 245 oz. of alcohol a day.

of course people age. the vaults first phase ends after 3 years... unless the overseer gets twisted and likes a sinnful society... if the population doesn't kill itself resisting the call to mate.

vault 1 the 5000 most fertile people on the planet are found all of varying ethnic groups religions and laungeges the water in the vault is given a small but effective fertility drug. each ethnic group is in a area the size of a normal vault each mini vault can sustain it self for over 700 years there is a main chamber in the middle of the vault each mini vault has a auditoram church armory. the center of the vault is set up as a battle field with a exit out of the vault that can only be reached by going out an elvator in the center of the battle field/center of the vault. each mini vault holds 500 people 10 groups all fertile all self sufficent and all given a safe vaults capacity for 500 years. the vaults open to echother 100 years after the main vault door closes no one was told about the other groups. there are small cameras to monitor the progress of the vault from a main control room of vault tec employes/enclave they have full acess to the power to each mini vault to the medical supplys food supplys ect that can be disabled at certian points whenever they please. the vault tec/enclave mini vault holds 200 vault tec works 100 enclave scientists and soliders with there families all also fertile. each mini vault has its own overseer, the vault tec enclave also have an overseer. they have total contact with the outside via the vault tec enclave vault. the point of this vault is to see how mankind has made it to its current state of recourse wars and racism. the vault tec and enclave can only interven if the overseer aproves. his guide tells him he can only interven if 1 group is left standing. 2077 up until now everything had gone fine. shipments of supplies had come in whenever requested even nuka cola was brought in for the children. the experiment was due to begin this year, it was all on schedule with up to date reports on how each group was making out. the americans had resorted to a dictatorship the chinese had some how realized there was another group in the vault when the africans resorted to tortue of there last overseer. the japanese seemed to have faired the best so far there strict code of honor has resulted in the lowest advltury rate in the vault. the other groups are unremarkable now because things had gone so normal nothing would be diffrent from any other vault out there. that is the safe vaults anyway. the enclave overseer tried to stop the experiment but it was running on a pre destined path the test could not be stopped.

Is a man not entitled to the sweat of his brow?

Noooo says the man in the Capitol Wasteland it belongs to the poor thirsty water people!

Noooo says the man in the Church of Atom it belongs to the holy glow of atom!

Noooo says the man in The Republic of Dave it belongs to Everyone!

I rejected those answers; instead, I chose something different. I chose the impossible. I chose... Vault 666 a vault where the artist would not fear the censor, where the scientist would not be bound by petty morality, Where the great would not be constrained by the small! And with the sweat of your brow, Vault 666 can become your Vault as well!

Basically a futuristic vault as technology was not unhindered with well educated people around your time of entering the vault, The Geniuses are in debate on if to leave to go to the wasteland and leave all they have built.

OR

a freaky vault designed to be found by a wastelander that he then gets trapped in.....guess who could be that wastelander

Vault (# here)

A "normal" vault with a population of 1000 people. Only problem with it.. Every day is October 24, 2077, day after the great war. There is no paper, no writing implements of any kind. All books are on computers. The Vault has an AI that's job is to keep everything, in every room, every piece of furniture in the same spot it was the day before, all graffiti and garbage is cleaned before the people wake up. Once the clock strikes midnight it resets back to October 24,2077. The music is on a loop that resets back at the start at midnight. (Pipboys are effected the same way as the vault's computers and clocks.)

Every meal is the same and is dispensed by AI controlled robots. All recordings and data put into the computers by the Vault Dwellers is deleted as of midnight. If someone dies that persons records are deleted as if they were never in the vault, their room becomes closed and can not be opened. The Data on the dwellers updates, a ten year old checks his info in the data base it will say "John Smith, 10 years old, entered vault October 23,2077". Same John Smith ten years later checks his info it will read "John Smith 20 years old, entered vault October 23,2077."

Every day the people go through the "welcome to the vault orientation program." Same things over and over, the same schedule is laid out by the AI computer every day. The food and water is laced with a drug that prevents the brain from processing long-term memory. Even the Overseer was told he's in control of one of the control vaults. If he dies the AI takes over. All contact with Vault Tec or any other vaults is all pre-recorded info. A huge data base is set up to respond to any question the overseer may ask the outside world.

Vault is meant to stay closed for decades..
