Vault Creation Contest

of course people age. the vaults first phase ends after 3 years... unless the overseer gets twisted and likes a sinnful society... if the population doesn't kill itself resisting the call to mate.

well other than the overseers mind going wild, i thing that would be a cool vault to go through after the vault kills its self :D

Vault (# here)

A vault with a population of a 1000 people. 24 hours after the door closed, very powerful anti gravity generators kicked in. All temperature and lighting controls turned over to the vaults computers. The vault's gravity becomes 20% less then that of the moon's gravity. The temperature becomes very cold at night and very hot during the day. Oxygen levels are decreased. Nights in the Vault are longer then the days. Lighing and temperature are programmed to mimic season changes. All plants in the Vault were engineered to thrive in these conditions, they give off less oxygen then normal plants.

Vault was to stay closed for many generations.

Vault (# here)

A vault were everything is random. Water for a shower could be nice and warm then scalding hot or ice cold. Lights could be bright or dime to no light at all. Doors could lock or unlock by themselves. Food could be dispensed all at once and then nothing for two weeks or longer. All the clocks in the vault including the pipboys have different times and they can't be set. Alarms can go off at anytime they can be false alarms but just as often can be real ones. Many of the vault systems were designed to fail.

A vault made for Congress and Senate families; only the war happened too fast and only the technical crew finishing up was inside when the doors closed due to seismic sensors activating from bomb strikes [locking down the vault].
Five or six guys in a vault built for 2000 ~and with an aggressive, robotic security force ~now active, and them without badges or paperwork of any kind.

~That was my http://planetfallout.gamespy.com/mods/255/Area101 in the PlanetFallout vault contest... Where you had to actually make the vault as a playable level.

Yours looks really good, but I doubt they would implement it in the game. It's not that they wouldn't like it, it's just that they will probably never see it.

Vault #1: A vault created to store all developers for the Fallout games so that they might one day in the future be able to make Fallout games for the people of the wasteland. :fallout:

Vault (insert #)

After 4 months, the vault loses all normal gravity without any warning. The only way to move through the vault is to float like in the ISS. The Enclave use the vault to study the reaction of the people, their adaptation, and the results of long term low-level gravity on the human body.

That contest was from 2009 http://planetfallout.gamespy.com/articles/features/559/Vault-Tec-present-Project-Safehouse-Fallout-3-Mod-Contest

and I was running far behind, and submitted what I had, to make the deadline (and was lucky! they had already extended it once, and I was still out of time)
Mine was in the "government class" entries. It didn't win (I'd have been very surprised if it had). Here are the three winning entrees.

I was going to do a write up of a Vault that was meant to preserve the worlds Religions, in which not intentionally, the Overseers were brought up to actually believe they were a god, but I couldn't think of decent write up.

Vault 77 - A vault carefully designed. After everyone was inside, about 1000-2000 people; men, women, and children, were inside, they sealed the vault shut. But this vault was actually a large "blow up" city in which they designed it so people could learn to adapt to the harsh environment.

It had realistic storms and various pockets of controlled radation. Food and medicine were scattered across this deserted "city". The purpose was so that these people would have the hard on experience for surviving in the real world, once the nukes had hit. But due to control problems, the vault door was sealed shut permently and all its occupants managed to survive for only one generation before starving to death.

It is a stretch yes, but the eyebots potentially use some form of anti-gravity and we are talking about a society with nuclear powered everything, virtual reality machines, and laser weaponry so I think they could find a way

If that explanation is not satisfactory then they have anit-grav due to

Vault 24: This vault was designed to test the corrupting effects of "power" in society. The vault had several hundred residents, each with a predesignated job before entering, and supplied basic equipment to last 200 years. The vault had a few different rules though. One, ABSOLUTELY NO WEAPONS, no weapons were allowed in the vault and any improvised ones that are found would result in a severe beating by the police force and 1 month in solitary confinement. Two, decisions and conflicts would be resolved in a new voting system, if you have a job you can vote, but your job also determines how strong your vote is, with the overseer's being the strongest. Three, there will be no robobrains or mister handys, but a local police force, which has the right to subdue and imprison any resident they find dangerous, excluding the overseer. ( keep in mind the police force has no armor or weapons either, just fists and numbers.)

After the vault closed things went exactly as expected, with the overseer getting to decide most things with his vote, and the police force abusing their rights. There was one man in the vault though who vault-tec specifically chose and gave a free spot in the vault to. Mr. John Garnier. Vault-tec had monitored John for years, and seeing him devote his time to the needy, volunteering in his spare time, and donating part of his pay-check each month, vault-tec saw him as a naturally good person and asked him if he would like a free spot in the vault as part of a fake lottery. Upon entering the vault John was given a strange locked box with his name on it by a vault-tec worker exiting the vault. All he was told was to keep it with him at all times. John did as asked. John had the lowest ranking job in the vault, and over a course of 10 years John would recieve random beatings and imprisonments while the other workers and overseer simply overlooked it.

Upon returning to his room one day John noticed the strange box he had recieved 10 years ago was open. A time lock mechanism had revealed inside the box was a small plasma pistol with plenty of energy cells inside. So the next day John returned to the Overseer and workers as they were voting and brought up a motion, to make himself Overseer. As everyone in the room laughed and one of the overseer's personal officers approached John, he pulled the plasma pistol from his sleeve and shot the officer in the head killing him. Everyone in the room goes silent as John asks for a vote. Everyone in the room votes to make John the new overseer. After being made overseer John fires the plasma pistol again, killing the previous overseer, as John sits in his new chair. over the next few hundred years John and his offspring become tyrants ruling over the vault with the only weapon in the vault being passed down through John's family.

until a certain courier boy comes along and opens the door...........

Vault 23: A vault in which everyone admitted has an extreme phobia. This would test a society in which everyone is phsychilogically unstable. Soon after the vault door seals people suffering from claustrophobia try to escape. As a result the remaining citizens are forced kill the escaping vault dwellers for fear they will let in deadly radiation. In the years following the vault experiences several technical failures. Power outages temporarily disable lights causing people with achluophobia (fear of darkness) to go insane. Leaks plague people with hydrophobia. And so on and so forth.

Vault 52

One-thousand men and women live in Vault 52. They were forced to live in seperate areas of the Vault. If one entered the other area, they would be gunned down by the laser auto-turrets. The only way the citizens of Vault 52 could reproduce, or even speak to each other was in the lower level. The lower level had all sorts of F.E.V. experiments inside.

If they went to the lower level and found the secret trapdoor, they could reach the other side to reproduce safely.

Vault 38

One-thousand men and women live in Vault 38. Every week, one contestant is randomly chosen to be the source of the Vault Entertainment. They would have to go through the Vault's underground maze which was lined with cameras, traps, and tricks. They were sent down there in their jumpsuit with their barehands. In the maze, you could find guns, armor, stimpacks, and everything else you'd need to survive.

Five men called, "Slayers" were each armed and protected by different gear. The slayers are in list of weakest to strongest.

Tyrone/Scorch - He uses a light suit of leather armor and a flamer to incinerate his enemies. He is the youngest of the Slayers at the age of nineteen.

Jack/The Ripper - Jack uses a suit of metal armor mark two and a ripper to tear apart his enemies. He is the oldest of the Slayers at the age of fifty-two.

Christopher/The Silencer - He uses a suit of combat armor and a silenced, scoped assault rifle as well as a silenced sniper rifle. He is forty-three.

Samuel/The Nightmare Prince - He uses a suit of T-45d Power Armor and a laser rifle.

Victor/The Devil's Advocate - He uses a suit of T-51b Power Armor and a plasma rifle.

Those are the current slayers in 2280.

Vault (# here)

A vault built as a weapons research vault (one of the first vaults up and running). A very large vault, it's population is made up of scientists, army reservists, military police, and a large number of enemy POWs.
Vault's second lowest level was for bio and chemical warfare research and home to most of the POWs. Lowest level of the vault was for human and animal FEV tesing. The vault was only given a small batch of Mariposa FEV (a small vat). The scientists were given all info on FEV and it's failures in hopes they would not repeat the same mistakes. Also housed on the lowest level was a queen http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Wanamingo, they wanted to test on her eggs. A number of exotic animals from around the world were in this vault. Strange as it maybe this is where stealth boy research was taking place.

Word of this vault was leaked out along with info on other top secret research facilities like West Tech. The vault was hit hard during the great war. All contact has been lost the area it's in, is now heavily irradiated. (Glow level of radiation not the vault door area of V87 level of radiation.)

Vault 85

A vault that had 2 occupants one man and one woman, this experiment would test evolution and how long it takes for it to take place. When the bombs fell the woman was 2 months pregnant, there was a break in the ceiling of the couples bedroom and the radiation coming that crack caused the baby to mutate. When the woman gave birth the baby had a beak nose and a tail. The parents loved the mutation, and couldn't kill it. On the mutations fifth birthday it slaughtered the parents and ate their remains. When the mutation went to sleep in its parents bedroom that night it woke up to find that it was stronger than the day before. the mutation could lift the couch as easily as you could lift a carton of milk. He used his divine strength to break the vault door. The radiation outside of the vault made him bigger, stronger. He traveled North along the coast to Canada than swam across the coast to Antarctica, where he found another vault. The number on the door had eroded because of the cold, he knocked the door down. Inside he saw a computer, a blue button, and a nuke. The computer had the word "invasion?"on it.
The mutation could not read so he pressed the blue button, just to see what would happen, the mutation disintegrated, taking part of Antarctica with him.

If we never find out what the "jungle vault" is I'm going to pretend it was vault 85
