Imagine vaults that you would like to see on FO:NV;)

Vault 23: All residents were "rebels": dressed diferently, listened to diferent songs, some were hippies... Those that society kind of looked down upon. Surprisingly, due to a strong and charismatic leader they survived as a society and by the time of FO:NV they broadcast their own "alternative" radio station.

Vault 14: All women that entered the vault were pregnant and due to give birth arround the same time. This vault was design to test the level of stress the residents could take listening to dozen of babies cry (also sleep depravation). Results are too explicit to be described here.

Vault 7: All residents were "Gronak: The Barbarian" fans and formed a society inspired on the comics worshiping Gronak as a God (kind of medievil age minds with lots of tech)

Vault 29: The Vault was designed solely for the co-operation between poverty-ridden teenagers, and high-class snobby ones of the same age. Exactly 15 men and 15 women, were placed inside to see how they would cope. One man, either rich or poor, was placed in the same room as one woman of the opposite class, meaning there was always one of each gender, and one of each class in the rooms. The rooms themselve were large, one side of them was damp and run-down, while the other was finely decorated with expensive paintings and the like. Both residents were to decide themselves on which side each would sleep, an every day they had to do work between them. Unsurprisingly, the rich residents often slept in the 'Good' side of the room and did no work, while the poor slept on the shabby side and did all the work. The only exception to this, was when Jebediha Okhlan killed his rich room mate having become fed up with being bossed around. This led to the rest of the poor becoming inspired, and doing the same. Jebediha was then proclaimed overseer by the poor, and only one rich man remained; Dorian Lambick. He forsaw this 'Uprising', and voluntarily allowed his poorer rooommate to sleep on the wealthy side, and also did most of the work. For this reason, he was spared, and to this day, is plotting a triumphant escape from the Vault.

so, im not sure how you want us to post on this but im guessing that you want us to put down our ideas for vaults, so im just gonna do that, ha..

vault 66: a vault of all prisoners (rapist, murderers, robbers, etc.) that had to live with each other as a society, weirdly they stay maintain, even though people thought they would kill each other, and anyone that visits will either be shot at or be come friends of the new comers, mattering how they act. it has a load of guns and weaponry, and also supplied with housing equipment and medic, this is why they kept civilized, but can crack very easy, they just need.. a push in the direction..

vault 17: a vault based on sports and athleticism, the first few years were great and people played ball together like it was nothing and had a great time, but soon the competitive types took over and starting killing off the star athletes, soon the population got less and less, sports got more dangerous, and sonn there was barley any left, now games are open to the public , but barley anyone survives, and every day the avult get closer and closer to extension.

vault 32: this is a vault that started out as a perfect place for perfect family's, but vault tec decided to put in some cult leaders, and secretly these leaders brought in more and more poeple to their cult, some people died, some were sacrificed, some cults had wars on each other and some grew together and became one big cult. over the years, they have learned in the arts of poisons, stealth kills, assassinations, and public killings, passed down through generations. by the time the vault was reopened, they were all trained killers, and all over the land, people were mysteriously killed, but as only the vault know, it was their doings.. but what they dont know is small groups of people are starting to plan a way to kill off the bigger groups, and a killing spree is about to begin.

vault 102: this is the vault 101 tried to be... they were the perfect group of people, no one left the vault and no one was allowed in.. people became perfect familys, and lived life each day as if they were the last humans on earth. there is small crime, and a police patrol, they all have their own jobs and keep each other safe, the vault is technicality a myth, no one has ever found it, and if they did, they never could get in. it was paradise inside a vault (but i believe that if you do want to get in it on story, i think you should have to gather information from everyone around NV until you find away to break in and see what the place is really about.)

Vault 72: since this place is surrounded by NV this vault is full of gamblers, blackjack players, poker kings, etc. this vault is to keep the gamblers safe. just like the music players on FO3. they were to keep the tradition of gambling alive, after many years, and teaching each other all the tricks, and tips, they pass down what they know generations to generations, untill the vault is opened, the remaining poeple left inside, start their own casinos all over, and teach people what they know, they start a business to get rich and for enjoyment of people all over, and with what they know, they were the heart of what brought NV to life and kept it alive. sadly though vault 72 is now abandoned and left with poker tables and survival junk, but there is a myth of a old master who still teaches wonderer's who want to learn all about gambling..

Vault 45: this vault is simple, this vault was full of normal people, and one day they wanted to open the vault.. but they opened it to early, people had been effected by the radiation and became ghouls and, one day the outcast were on a raid for new tecnology, and they were chased down by the NCR and found their way int to hiding in the vault, when the outcast barged in the front door, they say the ghouls waiting for them, the out cast shot all that they could see, and when the NCR come in after them, they kill the rest of the ghouls and all of the outcast, and the NCR leave the place to rot in hell..

thats all i got for yeah right now, i might post more later, thats fun thinking of vault ideas, ha i wish luck to the fallout creators who think of vault idea, ha and have fun with it!
get creative!

Vault 101a:

A torus shaped complex built around vault 101, occupants were scientists told to study the various effects of psychoactive inhalants pumped into the 101 air-conditioning units.

Spoiler
Purpose: Remote study of the scientists themselves [and their reports on vault 101]. These scientists were exposed to the same vapors [at higher dosage] in their own air-conditioners.

Well, I'll steal from myself on this one...

The state legislature of Nevada decides that they want no part of the impending war, and start funneling tax revenue to build their own vault. To their credit, they didn't use Vault Tec, so no organized chaos. Each family in the legislature was allowed four members. In addition to the legislators and their families, there were support staff (they didn't get to bring their families). Obviously, the legislative class didn't treat the support staff all that well (including the heavily-armed security forces). Now the support staff have decided they have had enough and are ready to revolt. If that isn't enough, there is even a darker side. The families were limited to four members (unless a family was unable to have two children, then there would be a lottery to see who got to have another child). If there were more children, well, you do the math. The stress of enforced family sizes has finally cracked some members of the legislative class (particularly the women forced to do the unthinkable for women of the stereotypical 1950s mindset) and they are ready to open up the Vault and leave. In short, the Vault is well past starting to fly apart at the seams.

I'm stealing this from my idea of a Congressional Vault, so not everything will work out quite as well. Either way, the scene in the vault is some sort of Orwellian nightmare. While there is room for action, there is also a ton of room to solve problems through speech for those so inclined (actually, the Congressional version makes it nearly impossible to solve some of the side quests through force because the security forces there are full-blown military in T-51b and armed with the heaviest of weaponry).

For some reason when I read this, I started thinking about the Yankees, except they'd just take all the star athletes

Vault ___ :

Just a solitary vault door laying discarded under the scorching sun. The only clues as to how it got here are the deep grooves scraqed into the desert hard-pan, and the various empty liquor bottles littered along it's path.

Actually, that's more of a random encounter, I suppose.

I think when you're making these Vaults, you should keep some things in mind.

First; Population. A 30 person vault is, quite simply, not going to be Viable to have survived 100+ years, so either they'd all be dead by this time, or they'd have moved on and thus the vault would be inhabited by creatures/squatters.
Second; Experiments. While funny experiments are cool, if this topic is to create 'realistic' vault experiments, you've got to remember what the Enclaves ideas were. The experiments were mainly to test different possibilities that could arise during space travel/other-planet colonization. Isolation, hallucinations, overpopulation, diversity, boredom, cloning, and male/female imbalance, just to name a few.

My idea:

Vault ___(Whatevernumber): Intended to be a control vault, filled with miners and laborers, set to open exactly 73 and 1/2 years after the bombs fell, but the main door malfunctioned. They had the standard 2 gecks, and a decent supply of waterchips to survive over the 73 years. Due to the non-working door, the residents dug out a network of tunnels (Eventually reaching the surface around the time of NV years later) where they used the GECKs to create an underground city of sorts. Due to prolonged experience with low-light environments, most of the lower-class who were forced to live out in the caves developed pale skin and bad eyesight, but improved senses in the other departments. Upper class residents remained in the Vault.

Vault 97, Also known as the Labyrinth, filled with one hundred more than the vault's number, 197. All people who where either good at math, puzzles, architecture, and logistics. Each one of these people were put into a room with limited supplies, only 4 years worth for one person. Knowledge there were more supplies in other rooms. Not knowledge of how to get to them, and also knowledge that each area had to be opened with a specific code. If this code was not put in correctly, that room would possibly have oxygen decompression set in, as well as all contents of that room delivered to the center of the vault, after 2 weeks of decompression. Each time a code was put in incorrectly, the surrounding 9 rooms would exchange places.

Vault 35, Filled with athletes and bodybuilders. All the gym equipment was made to breakdown on a massive level after 3 years. The food supplies were all created to have extra high fat content, and low protein. However, the entertainment systems were all above par, and self maintaining.

Vault - C

http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u173/lonelydogs/070710143129.jpg

On a serious note :

Vault (Unused number)

This vault was designed to test the effects of spending a large amount of time in enclosed spaces. It was occupied by 200 individuals , 150 of them were known to be claustrophobic and the other 50 were not. The vaults door was designed to break after it was closed so that it could not be opened from the outside (except for a hidden door in the Overseers chamber) and there was no door controls on the inside.

I got my hopes up when I saw this thread thinking that this was an actual Dev Contest. Oh well... Cool Ideas though.

Vault 1776 or 570 (a Pennsylvania area code)

A vault full of revolutionary war reinactors/descendents. This could be the location for finding the fabled Kentucky Longrifle, which was actually designed and created in Pennsylvania. The vault dwellers would do war reinactments with their fake cap rifles, while only the Overseer got the actual functioning Kentucky Longrifle. When you open the vault door a man called "Revered Paul" rides past you on his broom horse screaming "The Redcoats are coming". You would then follow him to the Overseer who would give you the Kentucky Longrifle for defeating the Redcoats in battle.

A vault with a massive population
the experiment being it would work exactly as advertised except with a couple hundred thousand population, a half a city sized [with a question as to whether this was an experiment for a funding and advertising gimmick]
But, there was an earthquake caused by the bombs falling which sealed shut the vault door but opened the lower levels of the vault to a huge system of entirely sealed to the outside world caverns and underground lakes. They used the multiple G.E.C.K.s that were in the vault to create a new world under the earth and think themselves to be the last humans left in the universe until our hero falls down a hole into their world.

and it think some of the ideas put forward in this topic would make better sitcoms than vaults.

Vault 5: The Vault is filled with 100 people. After 5 years, the food-growing systems breaks and they must go into the menagerie which is "broken" which has creatures everywhere. The menagerie has working food-systems, but it's home to yao-guai, deathclaws, dogs, and all sorts of monstrocities. And the armory was "supposedly" forgotten to be stocked.

Vault 32: The Vault is filled with 50 people. Twenty-five are United States Soldiers, twenty-five are civillians.

Vault 7: The Vault is filled with 2000 people and an fully-loaded, unlocked armory.
