Oh, I wouldn't say that he's a total ass. More like he just demonstrates a complete lack of subtlety in his interactions with other people. Most of my guy friends are like that. :P

Wow, drg, what you've got sounds so great! I mean I couldn't wait for this awesome companion mod...though i have nothing to offer but suggestions (my voice is horrible...)

P.S. Lawlder is reworking Amata so you can recruit her from the beginning of the game. Perhaps you two can collaborate on something?

P.S. something else of another companion mod had caught my eye. Amy Wong Companion has extra "packages" where u can download and with these contents the compaion will react to the content availble with each DLC. i know sydney can go charging into point lookout, but it would be fun if she would react to her environment...and same with Mothership Zeta. would be sweet if she was locked up somewhere near (would be great fun as jason also). Anyways, don't rush and have a great time doing it.

It's doable. The reason I haven't done anything like that is because there's a hard-coded limit of 255 mods for FO3 (even less when you consider that the main game and the DLC's each count as one), and was too lazy to bother with creating multiple configurations to account for who has PL but not TP, etc. It's something I'm certainly considering doing for Jason, particularly for the Pitt and Point Lookout, though I shudder at the very thought of having to touch Zeta again. :P

Anyway, as for Jason's original voice files, I finally decided just to put them towards another new character. I realize how ridiculous that sounds at this point, given the fact that the reason I revised the project was because I felt I needed proper voice acting and writing to convey a new NPC's story. Well, I can't find a single character within Maleadvlt04 that I like and is feasible for follower conversion. So I just created a new Average-Joe wastelander you can rescue from raiders in the Super Duper Mart. Simple, cliched maybe, boring perhaps, but effective given what I'm working with. I'm a stickler for sensible companions who actually HAVE a reason for joining up with the player. If that means losing sleep trying to splice together coherent conversations, then so be it.

So... short of a few things, he should have all the voiceovers and features that the old version of Jason was supposed to have. Just gotta finish transplanting them over, splicing some new dialogues to accomodate the new backstory and character, then actually get my desktop working so I can test it.

Pretty much the same it is for me.
They could be well integrated since I will be using Amata's vanilla ID's in the future versions of Follower Amata. Thus there is no need for a compatibility patch, and Jason could just use dialogue conditions such as if CG04Amata is in Player Teammate faction, too.

It does sound a bit crazy :lmao:
This is going to be such an ultimate mod.

I do recommend, though, that the Wastelander would have some sort of a "real" backstory, like if he was formerly a part of a big faction or he has witnessed big events in Fallout history.

If that's all that needs to be done, then it should be pretty simple if I just use that condition to turn off any Amata-related dialogues and refrain from touching any of her dialogue myself. Then I can just have any interaction between the two based on voicetype to catch any variation of the Amata follower. I'll be interested to see what you've done with her once you're finished. Although... what exactly are you doing with "Trouble on the Homefront"?

It is rather crazy of me, but I just can't make up my damn mind about stuff. You wouldn't believe how many projects I started and then simply "dropped" because new ideas kept popping up. That I actually stuck to and finished Sydney was quite the achievement on my end. I think I'll definitely stick to this plan though; I can't let all that voice splicing go down the drain. :P

Oh, I plan on giving him something, but I don't think anything really prominent would work since he's rather young to fit the voicetype -- anywhere from 20-30. One issue in using Jason's old voiceovers is that it means inheriting his "original" personality, which was rather joking and lighthearted by nature. At least, that's the image he'd project, since it'd be his way of covering up any psychological issues that would make him feel like any less of a man, but it's not very befitting of many of the game's factions overall. That and I actually have to be able to convey the story without resorting to unvoiced dialogue or immersion-breaking means. I guess I can connect something through his family, and convey that through a mini-quest that involves returning to his ravaged home -- I dunno... I'll think of something, rest assured. :P

Sluggishly slow, to be quite honest. The above idea on how best to recycle my old work popped into my head a few days ago and now it's all I can think about mod-wise. Haven't really started child Jason's dialogue, which is why I haven't contacted you about the voice yet.

And no worries, I don't intend to give up on this; I want Jason to be my masterpiece mod once it's all said and done. :)

Although... what exactly are you doing with "Trouble on the Homefront"?

Basically, you can persuade her into coming with you during trouble on the homefront. It will be extremely hard, with 3 hard speech checks to pass, but if you do, she agrees to leave the vault if:
1) You complete the quest by making Overseer open the Vault
2) You don't kill anyone
3) You didn't kill Overseer during Escape!

When Overseer informs Amata that he is stepping down, Amata refuses and says that Overseer is the right guy to lead the Vault. After the dialogue is concluded, Amata informs you that she is ready to go, and you hire her.

During Escape! the pattern is very much similar. When you open the vault door and ask Amata to come with you, there are 2 Average speech checks after which she joins you. But only if you helped her during the interrogation scene and didn't kill her father.

Amata mod could well go with Jason. Three vault dwellers. One hero, one daddy's girl and one.. Well, Jason :D People who like to be pack leaders in this game could well go with them, especially since recruiting Amata during Escape! also enables Butch in Rivet City (because Trouble on the Homefront will be disabled in this scenario).

And of course good luck with your new companion, then
You have some serious talent in Companion modding. :P

Hey there DRG, I think this might help you find some voice actors.

Who knows, someone might email you and agree to do the voices.

Hey DRG,

I have done voice acting for my own personal mods, that are in progress. And I can generate the ogg and lip files easily. I'm from England, so I'm best doing variants of the English accent, for extensive dialogues. I don't know if that's any use to you. You mentioned having a merc. I know there are a lot of mercs with British accents in movies, so that might be an idea? Let me know if I can be of help. I would need a little help cleaning my voice files though, maybe, since sometimes I get a the short wind sound at the end of talking, due to my breath in the microphone. What is the trick to that? I've tried talking in different ways to control it, and that seems to be working. Is there an editing program that will filter that, or do you need to train your voice not to do it?

If you want to use me, please send me an email ( typingsound@gmail.com ) since I might not check on here.

I've sorted my voice files out now, I was just speaking too close to the microphone to get the volume loud enough, which was causes the breath sounds. Now I'm just upping it in my music editor (duh!) So they sound good now! :)

I have a totally random idea, do with it as you will :)

Since you are going to have him kidnapped by raiders and be located at the Super Duper Mart and since his personality is joking and lighthearted, what came to mind is this: Do you remember that couple that tried to escape the vault and they got shot? I am not sure how old they were, but maybe you can make this new Jason related to them some how. It would give them a reason that they wanted to escape, and would explain why Jason has that sort of personality. He could have grown up in the Vault, but escaped and those two wanted to go after him. At that point, the raiders had gotten a hold of him and that is where you finally find him. The raiders could be keeping him to get more information of how to get into the vault for either more supplies, or to take it over.

Hello,

I was invited from The Nexus Forums to apply for a VOR-Direction/Sound Editing post by "Heyy_Adrian". At least I believe that's what I was being invited to do, the email itself was vague (I'm not a voice actor myself). Anyway, my resume is available upon request, and I can be reached by email easier than this forum.

Thank you for your consideration, and I hope I can be helpful.

@ Pistolero

Yeah, that was what i was pointing at. It would be fabulous to have some connections there, and it would indeed be a dream start, and in way, could be a refreshing start. Of course, that bring out the piont that it can be very unbalancing to the game as you would have two companions who would be somewhat very useful (add in Amy Wong whom i also use that makes three)...so in the end, it comes down to how much exp will they steal from you and causing you not to get the kills u want.

And of course, you could take Jason at the start of the game, and pick up Amata later :)

That's actually a really neat idea story-wise, but it's not one I'll be using. If every companion I make is straight out of the Vault, then it gets to be fairly repetitive concept-wise; Jason's the only Vault Dweller I plan to make. I've managed to work the old dialogue into a personality that I think works, but I'm gonna have to finish Ryan (which is now officially his name since I managed to get him to say it) until I can tell for sure. I think I'm going for something similar to Sydney, except go for lighthearted joking instead of dry, sarcastic wit. Might tone down the cynicism and up the gleeful blood lust.

I think it would depend more or less on what abilities they come with and how unforgiving you've made your wasteland through modding. Jason certainly isn't set up to be gamebreaking -- he doesn't have infinite ammo for weapons, doesn't start with any remarkable equipment, and isn't great at combat skills outside unarmed fighting until you start building them up through use, skill book readings, and a few other events. Also, he doesn't auto-heal after every fight, which limits his worth early on unless you sacrifice some of your Stimpaks for him every once in a while.

P.S. Any progress, DRG?

Not much. Had a week of college midterms, so that slowed down things considerably. Which is funny since I've gotten quite the influx of voice actor volunteers this week. Not sure when I'll be able to address them all properly. The fact that I got Mass Effect 2 might put a damper on things as well. :P

I am sorry, I was under the impression that you were changing Jason again. I didn't know that you were talking about this being a separate companion. So... You are still working on Jason and now working on Ryan as well? Which one will be finished first?

Oh yeah, sorry if I didn't make clear; they're two separate projects, with Ryan just using up the bulk of my previous voicework for Jason. Idea being that an average wastelander is much less plot-involved, so it's easier to make tons of voiceovers for him. Jason is still being created with custom voicework.

Ryan will probably be finished first, and potentially in the next couple of weeks -- most of the tough stuff has already been done, so it's a matter of getting everything reimplemented, then getting it testing once I've got my desktop fixed. He's much less intense in the dialogue department -- still more than Sydney, but not as much as what I'm putting into Jason.

Hi, MAN YOU ARE AMAZING

Here are my ideas and questions:

will he talk with people like amanta, your father, overseer etc. if yes how will you get voice actors for those people?

Birthday present, maybe a beer or a porm he took from his father? :D

Maybe he would have romance with sydney, he would try to become her boyfriend?

It would be nice if you could see him at the age of 8 or 14 or something like that, and you would talk with him have fun, maybe beat up butch, or if you can't make that, PC and jason would be closed in one room and talk or fight.

At birthday party he would say something to butch when he wants your bun or when he butch would attack you jason would help you
Also before gose exam he would come to you. tell about amata being bullied and he would help her.

Maybe he could get drunk and walk funny, have different dialogues or if he would use too much psycho he would shake

He needs mother and father so how about that:
His mother would like you and his father not, she would come to your B party too and give you gift, then when you would come back to the vault to help everyone his mother would be dead and father would want to kill you because he would think that's all your fault, but jason would stop him and then his father would talk to you, you would have to use your charisma to stop him from attacking you and when you would kill him, jason unlike amata would understand that it wasn't your fault, but he would stay in the vault, he would not want to go with you, and maybe then when you can see amata being attacked by enclave he would be with her, and if you would rescue him he would go with you.

maybe at the end of the main quest in F3 without broken steel dlc he would say that he will go inside and he would die even if you would have Broken steel.

Maybe he could finish some quests for you like the one in the megaton with that bomb.

He should have six with nova

But i really would like to see him romancing with sydney

When he would see behemoth he would say something like "holy [censored]"

Maybe in the megaton someone would annoy him and he would beat him up (without any weapon and of course no one else would attack him)
