Vault Jobs

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 1:14 pm

hi everybody.

i'm starting a fallout D20 RP with some of my friends, and i'd like some help with jobs people have in the vault, here are the one i've thought of so far.
(edited quite a bit now, there are also some extra points of note at the bottom of this post.)

Overseer
- the boss of the vault there is only one vault overseer.

Vault Security Staff
- ranging from the chief, to deputy all the way to the regular old enforcers.
(if you got suggestions for better rank names i'd be very appreciative)

Vault Technical Staff
- electricians
- engineers
- plumbers
- technicians
- programmers pipboy/robot
- IT technicians
- scientist (genetic / theoretical physicist / geologist)
- you name it they've got it.
(please name some more cause i sure can't think of more.)

Vault Medical Staff
- physician
- surgeons
- psychiatrists
- marriage councelors
- pharmasist
- Obstetrician/Gynecologists
- nurses.
(again if you can think of more please tell me.)

Vault Educational Staff
- teachers
- ???? something else ????
(any and all other ideas accepted)

Vault Accounting Staff
- i'm sure there is lots and lots of paperwork that needs doing and some poor smuck will get assigned to do it.
(any ideas for job titles would be appreciated)

Vault Nutritional Staff
- cooks
- dietician
- something that sounds scientific?
(again help is more than welcome)

Vault ..... Staff
- waste disposal workers
- botanist (changed from green house workers)
- tatoo artist
- chaplain (clergy would be important too)
- barber
- janitor or custodian
- something else i can't think of.
(anything i've forgotten if you can think of any more divisions or job names please let me know.)

so any help you guys can lend me would be greatly appreciated, and rewarded with cyber cookies :cookie:
(take as many as you like they're free just sign on the dotted line :deal: )

P.S. copied from my 12th post

some extra points of note:
- fields of study, if you can name a few fields of study you think would be critical to the vaults survival please say so.
- how would you call people who perform menial labor? say people that can basically be used for any "un-schooled" labor that needs performing.
- any ideas besides accountant or book keepers as job names for the paperwork guys?
- past times, what do you envision people in the vault do in their spare time? i'm sure there would be alot of community activities.
- personally i'm thinking the vault works in 3 shifts (well 5 actually 4 during day time 1 during lights out.) which rotate on a weekly basis, what are your thoughts on this.
(1st from 6am till 2pm, 2nd from 8am till 4pm, 3rd from 2pm till 10pm, 4th from 4pm till 12pm & 5th from 10pm till 6am)

Tattoo artist its all i ever seem to get doing the damn g.o.a.t.

yes i got that one a few times too, yet there seems to be a frightning absence of tatoos in the game, so that would seem like a poor career choice :P
still here you go :cookie:

Pipboy programmer (is the one I got) and, well, other programmers and IT specialists for running most of the automated/computerized systems/robots.

offcourse, thanks i'll add them to the technical staff list :cookie:

Just so you get the terms right:
nutritional, dietician.

thank you, thank you, thank you, i'll get those fixed here you go :cookie:

weeee, thanks a bunch for adding your ideas in such a short time.
still, more is always welcome.

I think you've got the idea right, everyone would have jobs focused on common survival... I think a lot of folks would probably have "Second" jobs in the name of community spirit, things like Stylist, Author, Entertainer, Chef, etc. Not official jobs as far as the vault is concerned, but side ones probably for ration credits, etc, or perhaps just kudos.

Pharmasist is missing from the medical staff. Obstetrician/Gynecologists could also be in many vaults, and probably cherished by those that do.

I'm also thinking Genetic scientists would also be important - Protein could be obtained by cloning, and montioring the population gene pool could also be important in such a small community.

thank you very much, both for the compliment, and the job titles, and i agree jobs not directly important to keeping the vault and it's people functioning would not be the "main" jobs would be something to do in your spare time, both because they might pay you for your services and because it's something to express yourself with, which is important to the human psyche.

here you go :cookie:

Theoretical Physicist :hehe:

thanks that actually brings to light another point, fields of study, theoretical physicist is a specialty of a scientist, likewise many physicians will have specialties too.

:cookie: just for you.

barber.

another  moment for me, afterall butch only mentions it like a million times, here for pointing out my failings :cookie:

thanks everyone so far, for helping me with this i appreciate it alot, keep them coming.

In my GOAT I always end up as a 'Vault Loyalty Inspector' which I imagine is like a secret police force (Think CIA/KGB/Gestapo etc)

Maintenance Staff? I saw you've put waste disposal workers and janitor on the list. They would fall under that category :)
Maybe just a generic Maintenance Worker job? Could be like a warden that goes around and checks that everything works as it should, etc.

I would think that Vault Security, would either be divided up between some officers tasked with Law Enforcement Duties, while others are tasked with Security Duties.

Vault Security Law Enforcement Section:
Primary: To provide enforcement of all laws as they pertain to "Vault Life"
Secondary: To perform investigations into subversive elements which may taint life in the vault.

Vault Security Security Section:
Primary: To protect high value assets within the vault.
Secondary: To provide close protection to Senior Vault Staff

I would think that Vault Security would use a similar ranking system to local police forces.
Trainee
Officer
Sergeant
Lieutenant
Captain
Major
Commissioner

librarian is going in, i'm sure their will be some bartering in the vault with the personal affect people bring into the vault though i'm doubtful about true stores.
but i guess there would be someone in charge of handing out certain items of entertainment value, a requisitions officer or something like that.
:cookie:

Vault Loyalty Inspector will go on the list, i suspect that they would be part of the Overseers Inner Circle, though maybe not in the know.

I'm sure some vaults would have woman of less reputable morale standards, but i doubt it would be a proffesion, maybe part of a seedier underground in the vault.
:cookie: for giving me an idea

right you are will put them under the correct heading, maintenance duties are performed by technicians i think. :cookie:

SNIP

good suggestions all of them, will put them on the list. :cookie:

that one is probably a bad joke on the part of bethesda, why would they have a laundry cannon? or perhaps a better question, what is a laundry cannon?

Shift Manager is one other job you can get in the GOAT (afterwards, Brotch comments that you may become the next Overseer). The Security Chief is, as far as I can see, the only one with any authority over others apart from the Overseer.

How about FireFighters and rescue teams. Vault or not these things do happen and i imagine a fire in a vault would get out of hand pretty quickly :flamethrower:
