Vault Suit

Post » Fri Nov 27, 2015 4:45 pm

I prefer the look of the new suit. In Fo3/NV it looks like it was home-made out of cotton by someone going through Psycho withdrawals. The big stitched on numbers and baggy jumpsuits don't scream "Vault Tech" to me. They seem more polished than that to me.

I like Fallout 4's version a bit more, actually, because it's a lot closer to what the Vault suit looked like in the first game. It reminds me of the end slide where the Vault Dweller is walking out into the wasteland again, with the giant 13 on his back. The Fallout 4 jumpsuit isn't quite the same, but it's close enough.

I like the new suit; it's a good mix. The suit in the originals was like spandex; the suit in 3 and New Vegas was more of a denim jumpsuit; the new suit is like jeggings.

As much as I like denim jumpsuits, I like they went with the classic spandex look.

Fallout 4's, because it looks a lot like the jumpsuits of the original games. It would be cool to see a torn up one like how the Vault Dweller looks at the end of the first Fallout.

I like that in Fo4 they chose the tight fitting look but it looks comfortable and it looks like it would breathe, too. It doesn't look constricting.

I rather liked the jumpsuits from 3/NV better. Just seemed a touch more real to me, reminded me of space camp jumpsuits. Seemed like actual clothes as opposed to a yoga leotard-esque.

I'd have to say I much prefer the FO3 version. FO4's, while it does attribute to the older games, looks more like something you would sleep in, not get yourself dirty in. I just can't see it standing up to normal wear and tear, though I'm sure it's made of some special material.

Now if it came with a cape, and some big red boots ... and I could fly, I'd be all over it.

I like both, for different reasons.

Fallout 3 (and by extension New Vegas') Vault Suits looked worn. Like the kind of thing that gets handed down through the generations and doesn't wear out easily. They evoked the feeling of having been lived in.

Fallout 4's Vault Suits look...fresh. New. Right out of the box kind of thing. Given the known history of the Sole Survivor at this point, this not only makes sense but reinforces the idea of a "man out of time".

I did quite like the Falllout 3 boiler suits, they kind of reminded me of the http://s30.postimg.org/tpee4mdld/Orwell1984b.jpg from 1984, which in a way does fit the 50s sci-fi technician look they had going. But I do kind of like the almost pin-up-style of the restored skintight one. It has a very pulp look, one expects to see http://vignette1.wikia.nocookie.net/fallout/images/9/99/FO1_Vault_Dwellers.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20080728001644. :D

They seem to be going for a less depressing look now. Maybe in 2008 we were all for the postmodern grunge, but after seven years of economic stagnation we want bright colours and spandex again. Cycles of fashion and culture. My brother wears clown shoes that I'd have been murdered for back in the day, and he turns his nose up at my black combat boots.

Fallout 4's for sure, in 3/NV I was lightning fast when it came to switching out of that baggy jumpsuit.

As long as it doesn't look like a skin suit and I can't see his crotch bulge, I'm fine with the new version, it looks more Sci-Fi and Vault-Tec.

FO4's seems more fitting for someone who just woke up, someone for whom their last memories are pre-war era. FO3/NV's seemed more like hand-stitched hand-me-downs than top-end, brand new sci-fi suits. That worked for vaults where people actually did work in their suits for generations, not for someone who went under and is coming out into an alien world ages past his own time.

All good points. I agree that the Fo3 suits look hand-me-down, but something about them just doesn't scream "Sci-Fi Fantasy" or "Vault Tech" I mean, the RobCo jumpsuits look to be in better condition and they've been hand-me-down in the Wasteland for 200 years.

As much as I loved the rugged versions from FO3/NV, I just have one thing to say for the FO4 version.

"Dat ass."

Too tight and form fitting. I prefer something that actually looks like it could be mass produced in a vault and distributed to it's occupants over something that looks like a tailor made costume for a sci-fi TV show.

I think latex suits could be mass produced more easily than tailored cotton suits. Think "full body yoga pants".

Both are good imo. The FO3 version seems more comfy to wear but the FO4 version fits the retro sci-fi space-age-y style more.

I think they both fit there game, the 101 suite is either 200 years old or made in a vault (I'd go for the later) so would be made of cotton and in standard sizes so they could be handed down, 111 suite is new and made for someone to cryosleep in so doesn't need to be hard wearing ( he is lucky he didn't wake in his briefs)

It makes some sense if you think about it, you have been frozen and your suit in storage for 200 years. The FO3 vault suits are more likely recreations of the original ones as they run out of even parts of other suits to repair the originals generations ago.

I do not really get the point of the number, everybody in your vault has the same number and you are unlikely to run into anybody from other vaults :)
