what retard at the pentagon thought that the government would live through a nucelar holocaust, pass down there knowldge for 400 years for society to be rebuilt (mabey) and then go to every vault and record results of SOCIAL EXPERIMENTS!?!? that is the dumbest thing i've ever heard. even the enclave is just a group with isllusions of order and some advanced technology... and they dont even CARE about the vault experiments...
seriously this the most retarded thing in fallout Canon

If I remember correctly the vault experiments were to see how well people survived containment given various circumstances (no chance of ever getting out, lots of ethnic variation, etc.), and this was done because it was actually believed that Earth would be rendered inhabitable by a nuclear war and humanity would need to travel to the stars in order to survive. Since flying to an exoplanet would be an extremely long voyage they wanted to see how people would react to similar circumstances.

It has been a long time since I read the backstory of the vaults so maybe I've mixed things up or misremembered some parts but I'm pretty sure that was the reasoning.

it still defeats its own purpose because someone forgot that the world would be blown up before they could get there results... its just so dumb

Enter the Enclave.

The roots of the "Enclave conspiracy" go back well before the war. The Enclave believed nuclear war to be inevitable, so they made a plan to surivive the holocaust. They anticipated that a post nuclear earth would be completely uninhabitable. Vault-Tek and Posideon oil were controled by enclave members.

Their shelter, conveniently located a few miles off shore of San Francisco, was able to survive the war, with communication links to the mainland. So what if the war blew up the world, those who needed the data were safe. Those who were responsible for collecting the data (the overseers) were safe. The rest of the world was an irrelevancy (a particularly annoying irrelevancy).

The Enclave, if they didnt have computer network links directly into the vault (Suggested - V13 just happened to decide to open permanently at the same time as an enclave pacification squad was standing at the door, amongst other things) had the means to get the data required from the vault (see the afore mentioned "Pacification Squad").

However, for some reason or another, the Enclave decided to abandon the "Leave Earth" plan, and decided to focus on recolonising the North American continent. A plan that failed.

(just to follow up on the comment above - The Vault Tek Crowd per se werent interested in the results, even if they knew of the experiments. The people that really planned them, well their decendants at least, survived)

Vault-tec didn't want anyone to know about what they're really doing, neither did anyone in the vault's know.

Except the Overseers (by way of their sealed orders).

They were experiments. If the world was going to end anyway why should it make a difference how people suffered?
And they didn't die, they were in one of the Vaults according to the Fallout Bible 0.

A couple of posts went away. Why? Because they were off-topic sniping about spelling and grammar. If you took the time to register, then take the time to read the rules - we even say something about not playing spelling or grammar cop on these forums. It's an exercise in futility anywhere on the web, for that matter.

Or you could leave Braun alone in his sim with no one left to torment.
