Vault-Tec Salesman

Post » Fri Nov 27, 2015 10:07 pm

So I know we've talked about the character ad nauseam, but I just noticed something in the trailer. At the part with the power armored soldiers guarding the path to Vault 111, the guy at the front of the line appears to be the Vault-Tec Salesman. I mean, how likely is it that there's another guy there wearing a hat and coat on a nice sunny day while everybody else is wearing sun dresses and polo shirts? I'm thinking he might be arguing about getting all the people that he just signed up into the Vault. Since he's there, maybe he'll get in too, and maybe he'll have some role in the MQ. Thoughts?

Hmm I didn't notice this. I guess it really depends on how true the "Sole Survivor" moniker is for our own character.

Pretty sure if I heard the news of bombs dropping I'd haul ass to the nearest bomb shelter as well.

This, I doubt he'll play much part in anything besides being the "You're Special" book/ Vit-o-matic Vigor Tester of FO4.

He's probably trying to cash your special sheet as a ticket into the vault but the tincans aren't having it.

Not expecting him to play a role in the MQ. The Lone Survivor seemed to dislike the salesman and was quick to shove the door in his face as soon as SPECIAL was configured anyway.

Oh! I thought that was just the way whoever played that part of the demo did it, you know, to get laughs from the audience.

Was slamming the door in his face a player choice?? You may be right, I was under the impression that was scripted.

It may have been scripted, but I thought he activated the door to shut it while his character was saying his annoyed line. You may be right though. On a side note, I wonder if we can go out that door at any time...

Dislike of a character doesn't preclude them from playing a role. Maybe your character has to track him down after being thawed out.

I think the whole idea is a bit of a stretch, to be honest with you. Why would the Lone Survivor track down a salesman? He's just a salesman. I'm sure there will be far more important figures in the vault when The Lone Survivor gets there.

He's not just a salesman. He's the Mysterious Salesman. If you pick the perk he shows up and sells you ammo for really cheap when you're almost out.

Unless he's a Ghoul, I think this man is dead. If anything else, we might find a skeleton wearing his outfit and hat.

yep, I think the Vault-Tec salesguy has got wind that the bombs are on the way

as the Vaults will have been contacted to 'ready themselves'.

Evidence:

(1-4) It's 10 past 9, Vault dude visits the couple 'on the list' closest to vault 111 in a desperate attempt to get some paperwork from them
(5) which will be his excuse to 'run this over to the vault'. He seems nervous and is keen to get away with the form.

(6-9) Moments later (clock is around same time) the bombs announcement comes - note that vault dude has abandoned his van in the street.

(10) Oh dear, the guards at the gate are having none of it - his goose is cooked...

he's probably the guy at the front of the line to get into the vault and may be arguing to get everyone he signed up in or maybe just himself. who knows? point is what we do know is that the sole survivor gets in somehow, maybe the vault tech rep gets him in, maybe the fact that you signed up gets you in, maybe the fact that your a military vet gets you in. We won't know until the game comes out.

What's raising questions in my head isn't that, but why are there military personnel guarding the vault in the first place? Vault tec is a private company, before the war it was a major military contractor for the government like Lockheed Martin or some others that we have today, but in the end its a corporation. You don't see military soldiers being ordered to guard corporations. For that, Corporations hire private contractors. AKA mercenaries or guns for hire, not government employees. You would think that in the heat of the moment right before the bombs fell that the government would have other critical plans for their soldiers

Different hat and hair color so I don't think it's him.

He is overdressed for a warm summers day. I always thought Vault-tec was a propriety government company like the ones operated by the CIA.

It really does. In Fallout 3, they said "in Vault 101, no one ever enters... and no one ever leaves", which turned out to be a falsehood. Mayhap the "Sole Survivor" moniker is false too.

As far as wild unfounded speculation goes, I'll give this a solid 9/10. We clearly need some news to talk about.

I stand corrected, http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Vault-Tec_Corporation

"in time vault tech became so thoroughly integrated with the Pentagon that it practically became a division of the US government"

so maybe because of this the soldiers actually could be there

The Fallout US was using the military to put down unrest in the US so its not surprising that they would be guarding Vaults to prevent mobs from storming Vault entrances.
