I don't read the story for the endings, I read them for the journey.
As long as you know is all that really matters I guess.
So basically guy on spiritual journey trying to find a reason to live. Hmm. Seems kind of shallow. But you could take that sentence and run with it. It might help to establish the area and timeframe this is in, the factions that exist, the towns that may or may not have been created. Fleshing out the main protagonist might be a good idea too. Focus on his back story first, his family, friends, and lovers. How his town came to be destroyed, how that left him, etc. Some of that stuff may never show up in the actualy story. That's okay, it's for you anyways, it's so you know who that character and how he will react. As you actual begin to write you may seem continue to flesh out and his personality might become clear you then.
