Vault 81 - what did you think?

Post » Fri Nov 27, 2015 7:51 am

So what did you think of it as the title says.

I thought it was a really powerful emotional moment to see people happy, free, and enjoying their normal mundane lives. My Sole Survivor would have cried seeing children at play if there had been the option.

Really good storytelling for those of us enjoying playing their Sole Survivor as deeply committed to their lost family.

The secret was good too.

Yeah, the secret was well done too.

It turns out NOT ALL Vault-Tech employees were insane.

It was quite nice to encounter a Vault that for all intents and purposes was intended to fail, but they found a way to make it a viable Vault in spite of being set up for disaster.

It was even more interesting to know they weren't as fearful of the outside world (by comparison to other Vaults), having opened limited trade with outsiders.

And it was very kind of them to give me a room and accept me as a member of the population.

I wud assume yes since their bodies are bilogicly the same as human with some cybernetic enchancments, though i wud assume they normaly make adoult bodies to start with but sure if you wud have a synth child body it should grow and age same as human.

A Synth cannot age physically, not without a complete body swap periodically.

The loading screens show us the internal structure of a synth, their skeleton+various other systems are completely artificial, therefore these parts of them are incapable of increasing their size through living tissue generation.

The organic tissue is just a covering for this internal structure.

So, based on this knowledge, I'd have to say that a Synth is incapable of growing bigger.

The size they are is the size they will stay.

Yeah as said in previus post you can see Gen 1 and Gen 2 synths in loading screns, than again wud be no point showing Gen 3 there since it wud just look human:)

Also from ingame info Gen 3 synths are basicly almost completly human like(the doctor in the quest explains to you thats its impossibile to see if someone is a synth even by perfroming thural medical testing, short of performing full autopsy no other medical testing verifies someone as synth-basicly Gen 3 synths are arteficialy created humans with some cybernetic enhancments) So they should defenatly age same as human.

The 3rd generation synths being mostly organic has made me think, are they capable of reproduction?

In theory taking into consideration the info i have from ingame so far they should be(i am not done exploring jet so theres posebiliy more relevant info left to discover), there is just one problem with it basicly they wud produce normal human children.

I too liked Vault 81. In fact its the first vault I found apart from own in 111 and I found it be accident running away from some Blocksvcking flying things (Im playing on a higher level of difficulty).

I liked the fact the Vault was most well adjusted. The Overseer had opened up trading within the outside world (casting aside the aspersions from previous overseers that such a thing was BAD).

The overseer is also the person to thank for stopping the Vault Tech experiment. They had a crisis of conscience and denied the ability of the scientists to conduct their disease trial experiments on the people of the vault. From what I get Ollivete locked down the Vault early.. before most of the Scientists had time to arrive and only just after the delivery of the wildlife which the scientists ended up using instead. Indeed it appears as if the Overseer did her best to elimiate all records of the secret vault.

My character has a room there but I dont really ever use it or go back.

Which wouldn't make them any less their children.

Odd thought, that.

Of course, the weird thing is they'd all be the great-grandchildren of the Sole Survivor biologically.

So, if the Synths are basically organic constructs, to what degree do they have synthetic components?

The first free Synth I met (Harkness), the doctor who gave him a new identity said something along the lines of having artificial parts, since he gives you one of them (it had been extracted during surgery, part of his cognitive array) to fake his death.

Which makes me think they might have artificial brains and the rest of their body is organic.

However, Kellogg mentions something about them being faster and stronger, so they might have microscopic actuator tissue embedded in their nerves and muscles to achieve this.

Spoiler

If this is what they did to Shaun, that's quite creepy.

Do you think anyone would willingly volunteer to have their brain removed to replace it with a neural net module?

FYI, that technology does exist in the Fallout universe, the ThinkTank (Old World Blues DLC) did it to the Courier once, but they were fortunate enough to get their brain returned!

There's a show I've been watching called Lab Rats which features constructs similar to Synths.

They're organic humans, but have had bionic implants installed in them.

The technical schematics show that they have artificial eyes and artificial ear canols.

Their implants are regulated by a microchip clamped to their back of their spinal cord in their neck.

But aside from this, the rest of them is organic, they've just been genetically modified for endurance and resilience.

Is this more in line with what the 3rd Gen Synths are like?

But judging from the 3rd gen killed by Diamond City, there are more implants inside, because they mention seeing gears and mechanics in his face after he was torn apart by gunfire.

As I mentioned, in Currie's quest, Doctor Amal talks about how Synths have organic brains but cybernetic connections so they can process computer information.

If you follow them covertly you find out, yes, they're having an affair.

I'm now annoyed I told his wife to work it out with him.
