Vaults ahhhhh....

Post » Sat Jun 23, 2012 7:17 am

Who else agrees that Vaults are the best locations in fallout?

They have the most interesting history, story, exploration value etc...

I even judge a fallout game mainly on It's vaults.

And I sorely hope vaults are a big theme in the next fallout.

Anyone else love em this much?

I think they can be fun and they should be in every game (mostly because of their nature; you would find them in just about every region).

That said, they shouldn't be a focal point or they'll become tired.

What has always amazed me about the vaults, is how successful they were at conveying the feeling that you are going into something that nobody has been in for a very long time. It's like going in a time capsule. When you open that door, it really does give you that sense. It also amazes me how I can go back three times and still find stuff I missed.

Also Vault Tec is a great story in it's self, especially vault 11. A company who's motto is "your safety is our number 1 priority", tricking people to sacrifice people or the vault will shut down was a thrilling story.

That vault creeped the hell out of me. My heart almost stopped in shock when I read "open sacrificial chamber" and you couldn't get me to sit in that chair for more than a second, followed by tons of robots shooting the hell out of you, How much robots could you need to kill and un-armed, un-armoured overseer anyway?

The concept of rummaging through the more or less rusted hallways of a previous social experiment, is really getting old. I'd say, in the future, have two or three Vaults at most -- two "dungeons" that are big and well thought out, and one that has developed into a city and is working. It's a waste of a good concept to litter them all over the place.

Yeah it's a crin' shame that out of all the vaults we've seen there's only one vault city so far. Well I guys shady sands is one too, from vault 15. However they didn't live next to there vault. Well I guess the boomer are a "successful" vault population too but they too don't live next to there vault.

You have to remember though, they're going to approach every game design with the possibility that people playing are playing that version for the first time. So it's kind of like asking Halo to not have a halo, because the halo thing is getting old. It might be old for somebody who played them all... But for somebody who is playing for the first time, they're going to go... "Where the heck is the halo?"

Yeah, I agree with this. Just a few really well done vaults per game would be ideal.

I don't care for vaults that much, they should be "there", but they should not be emphasized to the main storyline, not again.

I like vaults, but Fallout isn't Vaults: The Game.

I'd rather they set F6 near vault 0, but hey, that's just my opinion.

Actually, New Vegas was the fifth game, sixth if you want to count F:BOS.

Abandoned and explorable vaults are certainly not the central element of the game - nor should they be - and the series is not called Vaults. There's no implication or suggestion of any kind, that "Yeah, once I load this up, I (should) get to explore abandoned vaults." So I don't really see your point there.

Yeah, I agree with this. Just a few really well done vaults per game would be ideal.

I loved the vaults and they left impressions on me. Saying that, I think that it should take a fo3 approach and have it to where theres these vaults that have nothing to do at all with storys, just have them as their own situations.

We don't count F:BOS.

Some of the slaves have been spreading stories of the burned game again...

I didn't like the concept to be so overblown. There were a few brighter spots (in NV -- Valuts 11, 22, and 34), but overall the concept felt too tacked on as they did not have any point other than being the "yet another ride in the park".

22, 3, 21 and 34 did have their story reasons though, 11 is the weird one out IMO as while it's a great story, it is also a isolated story.
I don't think any Fallout in the future should have a vault unless there is a reason for having it there.
Like V34 and the Boomers.
Like V8 and Vault City.
Like V15 and Shady Sands, Khans, Vipers and Jackals.
Like V101 and the Lone Wanderer.

Yes, I said those vaults were the brighter spots. But really, does that mean that littering them all over the game is a good idea. The only vaults that "really" did a fine job were Vault 34 (many - even story related - quests related to that same place) and Vault 11 (a one time curiosity of a really, really cool kind), and Vault 22 (some nice quests, but overall not that involving) -- Vault 3 was tolerable, but pretty meh despite the idea behind it. The rest was just repetition with some different flavors -- a dungeon to crawl in.

I don't think any Fallout in the future should have a vault unless there is a reason for having it there.

Very much agreed.

Some Vaults are pretty interesting but over all I feel they have become to much involved in the games.

Fallout there is only three vaults and one of them was just a show vault (not numbered).

Fallout 2 has three vaults as well but two of those Vaults are Vault 13 and 15 which were already in Fallout 1.

Fallout Tactics has only one vault and thats vault Zero.

Then you look at Fallout 3. It has six vaults all crammed into that small space. New Vegas also has six vaults crammed into a small space like the Mojave.

Seriously WTH is what that? There is only 122 Vaults built and out of those 122 vaults 17 were totally normal Vaults with no experiments. The first games gave the impression that they were spread out. Yeah Vault 13 and 15 are pretty close but in reality they are a good distance apart.

To many vaults in the Fallout games today and they are getting to much attention IMO. So no I don't think Vaults are the best locations.
