Vegans

Post » Mon Mar 14, 2011 1:49 pm

Ok folks, we moderators have babysat this thread all day to assure you don't attack one another for being who you are or for disagreeing. We are starting flames again and we are only halfway through the thread.

There is nothing wrong with being who you are and eating as you do so let's use this thread for sharing personal beliefs about our food and not for attacking one another for having those beliefs.

I have long killed a moose a year to feed my family just as my Mother did and her parents did and now my children do. But I find no fault with those who must acquire their meat from a store or those who do not eat meat for any reason what so ever. It's a world in which we have choices of what we can eat and it has not always been so. Some still in this world must eat what is available or starve.

Lighten up in this thread on one another or I shall lock it. I've no time tonight to babysit it overly much.

In terms of meaties attacking veggies (I hope this isn't offensive, it's just so much easier to write!),

No offense here, I have been using those terms this whole thread hoping it would catch on. Thanks :tops:!

Sounds a bit like my dad. Every time something is vegetarian, he comments on how it'd be better with meat in it. He also turns into a real dike when I have a friend around, such as "Here, have a chip, no cows have been in these." He'd never make that comment if it was just us two. It's like he has to make it really obvious that he disagrees with my vegetarianism. (He also once forced himself to eat fish roe specifically to make a point about everything from an animal being delicious, and he was nearly puking at the end of it. I was just laughing at his stupidity.

I actually like roe. The only time I ever turned down a "vegetarian" meal was while I was in the Army and they gave me a vegetarian MRE. I was in the desert, living in a hole, doing a lot of heavy lifting, needing serious nutrition and Cheese Tortellini wasn't going to cut it.

I would actually prefer to do my own hunting but there are too many rules and regulations to make it worthwhile around here. There was a time though when I would grab my bow and a quiver of arrows and say "I'm going out to get something to eat".

There are people out there who will walk up to a vegetarian and try shove a sausage roll in their face. This is the sort of person it was aimed at. The people who, as soon as they discover I am a vegetarian, will launch into a tirade against my beliefs, and belittle and abuse me for my beliefs, and all I do is just sit there, bewildered. Those are the people it was aimed at. I thought I made it clear that I was talking about the meat eaters who attack vegetarians.

It's not just that way for vegetarians either. I was never a pork eater and people have tried real hard to try to get me to eat what they eat. They just don't want to accept others doing things differently from themselves I guess.

That would be dirt. Paint used to contain lead, which was sweet. Sadly, many children were brain-damaged as a result.

Pica cravings are not limited to only dirt. Chalk, clay, plaster, had a student once who ate pencil shavings and pencil lead (which is graphite, clay, and wax.) Turns out she did indeed have pica.
Yeah, lots of kids ate lead based paints, and it did irrepairable damage.

I have no problem with vegans or vegetarians, more meat for me to eat. :P The thing I DON'T like, is when they tell me I'm a disgusting murderer and try to make me feel bad.

All those worshipped cows, and all the people starving to death.... makes no sense to me.

 What is this? Is this like that thing about pregnant women getting cravings for coal and petrol (I always dismissed those stories as urban myths...)?

I don't have a problem with vegetarians or vegans. I could care less what you put in your body. I do take issue when people try to tell me I'm a horrible person because I eat meat for whatever reasons. I'm open to discussion, I enjoy hearing what people believe in and why they hold those beliefs. I think that's the only way a person can keep growing and forming their own beliefs. I just don't want an unsolicited verbal beat down.

In terms of meaties attacking veggies (I hope this isn't offensive, it's just so much easier to write!), I have some theories.

You're skipping the obvious one; people always attack others for being different. You can be sure that for any basic factor of a person, someone, somewhere, has baselessly insulted it. The rest of those reasons are not things I've ever seen in real life.

When I was going to my doctor appointments (pregnant with my third child) They asked me if I was having any weird cravings. I said, "Like what?" They said, "Oh, dry laundry soap, chalk dust, dirt, etc. I had never had questions like this with my first 2, and so I said, "You're kidding, right?" No, we are very serious." I was doing this, too.

My god...

I need to go and laugh now that was so... ow. Brain hurt.

I guess you were talking about a different kind of "evolution" in which case what you were saying is irrelevant anyway.
