[WIP]Veldion 2.1

Post » Wed May 26, 2010 12:56 pm

Veldion was always a completely amazing experience quest wise, FlyTSI did a wonderful job with the entire thing from landscaping to quest designing. But during the years Veldion has become dated to it's visual look compared to how much Morrowind has been updated the latest year. Using some resource packs from wonderful modders ( will update with complete list soon ) and using some models I don't have the permission to use yet ( permission pending ). It will be dealt with, won't release anything without knowing exactly what I'm releasing with proper credit where it is due.

Here are the first screens, began adding more clutter and more detail one of the towns ( god knows why the name of the town escaped me at this moment ).

I have no ambition to do any further work on quests or interiors for the huge amount of houses that would need it, but it would be lovely if anyone joined up to help make this incredible mod live and shine every so brightly once again.

I never noticed Veldion before so I'm downloading it now. Hope I'm not blowing my wad too early, coz the screenshots of your update are super.

Yes, it is worth of much praise even without this feeble upgrade I'm composing. Definitely worth a download even without it, you won't blow anything.

I am playing Veldion for the first time. When I go to Seyda Neen and talk to the Veldion guard he has no topics regarding Veldion.

Any thoughts?

I noticed that too. But is he the first of the guards you've talked to? I talked to one in Ebonheart first, and then assumed that made the topic unavailable for the others. I found the boat easily enough. Once I got there and puttered around for a while was a different story... I'm glad it's not just full of generic NPCs who say the same thing, nor are all the doors to houses fakey permalocked jobs, and there appear to be actual quests. But the island is so big I'm having a lot of trouble finding things, especially since on the map every exterior cell has the same name rather than towns being labeled, and it's so far from the mainland that the whole island doesn't show up. Anyone have a proper map of the island, or some hints? I found the big city and the other one, with the cathedral, but I'm daunted by the prospect of just walking all over the place to pick up the questlines.

I think you have some conflicting mod cause talking to the veldion guards you could be able to click on topic: Trouble at Veldion

Back on topic, this is really a great mod, i've always had it in my game and enjoyed it and now i'm very happy someone wants to improve it :goodjob:

Tiny update, still working out a lot of smaller details to the area so no new screen shots of that yet. This is mostly some candy for being patient with me =)

I get the same topics from the guards at Veldion. I have covered a large part of the island and talked to every one. Several NPCs have given me clues as to what is going on, but no one has specifically given me a quest. It would be difficult to determine what is preventing quest dialogs from occurring.

Since you're making improvements for this mod, long time ago i made for myself a signs replacement for Veldion.
Since i use http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=62 in my game, i made a version for Veldion: http://web.tiscali.it/icewind/Varie/Vel_Sign.jpg

If you like it i can send you all, but before i'd have to ask permission to Matthias [ElBundeee] Kath cause i used his meshes.

As you can see now i'm upgrading the textures also, using one from Connary's Wood Furniture :)

( Nods ) awesome signs man. I think it's pretty much a given they should be included. I feel as tho I should ask, you think I'm taking a step in the right direction with the screenshots FlyTSI ? I want to keep to the original feel and intentions and sometimes I guess I go a bit overboard and add perhaps a bit to many "new" things. Like the bridge to the small island.

Now start the problems lol
It seems Matthias [ElBundeee] Kath's email address i used to contact him is no more available (I had no doubts about it but i tried this afternoon lool)

I used the meshes in his package and don't know if they were made by him, if i can use and release them (even if are simple signs).

EDIT: I was totally wrong, seeing which esp is checked in my game i noticed is not Real Signposts but Mixed Signposts.
From Mixed Signposts Readme:
This plug-in replaces the default unreadable roadsignswith ones you can read.I created this from a plug-in originally created byElBundee(Real Signs) and modified by Voltayre(WeatheredSigns). Special Thanks To : ElBundee and Voltayre for theirprevious work!

So if there's already a mod based on ElBundeee's meshes i think i can release it too, obviously giving proper credits :)

Now i have only to ask connary if i can use his textures for the alternative version

I think it's wonderful you are upgrading this. I always thought FlyTSI did a stellar job on the mod and really enjoyed playing it :) I would help, as I have picked up modding once again to pass the time away; however I have picked up Dragons Breech again *rolls her eye's at herself* and intend to plug away at it some more. But I wish you the best and look forward to its upgrade. Might just have to revisit Morrowind again when you are finished.

Are you going to do it by an esp or as a texture replacer like Earth Wyrm is doing for TR?

Wow, well this thread has been running a bit since before. Not much new to report other then I'm starting to realize just how much work went into this mod, it's huge!

Long time no seen Lady E. I hope that I can upgrade this without to much time spent on it to be honest, sure there's some dedication needed, but I want to keep it strictly as a fun project ( have to many really serious projects ) and I'm happy that you put your consent out there and want to help but it makes me even happier to hear your working some on DB again, I've been waiting for DB for so long, it's such a breath of fresh air from normal mw, highly anticipating that.

It's wonderfull to hear you got the permission Behelit, I will make sure to incorporate the files.

I've also looked at some of the textures seeing if there's something I can improve. There are some seriously huge models in there and perhaps the textures of those can be upgraded in detail now. I'll have to ask around and perhaps use some "new" tecniques that people have been doing with meshes and textures lately. Won't promise anything yet tho, i'm just gonna see if it's easy enough to make the effect worth it.

I will prolly start with the next area soon, just going to relight some of the area, there is still quite some magic to squeez out of this area before i move on.

Yeah I know how much work went into the mod :) It took me 2 years to make it. It started with me modeling the Chartres Cathedral for the fun of it, then I was like well it needs a town to go with it (Veloroth) and one thing led to another, I had some help with some quest dialogs and music but other than that it was a 1 man operation. I really did put my soul into that thing, I have a lot of memory's from making it :) If you need any pointers on any of it let me know

I absolutely will =)

I'm soon finished with the lighting of Denduron, after that I'm just gonna place some more flora around the place and then move on.

It has to be done with an .esp, as I am doing for TRM1 (And Vvardenfell, at the moment), because the signs are all assigned the same .nif in the CS.
They have to be reassigned, as well as retextured.
