PC version comes with only one disc

Post » Wed Dec 02, 2015 3:19 pm

Oh well, I guess I'll pass FO4 like I did with MGSV and Mad Max this year. But I'll be busy playing again The Witcher 3 with its new expansion and Just Cause 3 which is coming on December 1. In January I might try GTA V which I haven't played yet. Hopefully the mods for it are good.

Oh, boo hoo, physical media is dying, woe is me.

It's not the data load that brings the server down, it's the simultaneous queries. when the game releases there will be 10's of thousands of queries at the same time and the database WILL crash. Unless of course the geniuses at Valve have finally incorporated a simple query que to prevent database overload. Fat chance.

They wouldn't/won't release an official figure for fear of quelling physical sales and losing the money they put in to making said physical copies. Not sure how big Skyrim was uncompressed? From the sounds of it, it's looking very likely Bethesda pulled a **** move under a paranoia of stupidity and piracy w/o realizing if it all turns out true they will have encouraged the latter on future titles.

I certainly won't be buying any Beth games anytime soon that's for sure. For me customer service is extremely important; it's part of the package along with the game. I'm pretty sure Beth thought about the people that would be affected by this move but ultimately they said [censored] them, it's not our fault if they have weak Internet speed.

My external drive with a portable steam copy just went to a neighbor in order to download Fallout 4. I get it back around monday.

In my case it's not the download speed wich svcks, but the limited "highspeed" connection of 15gb >.<

After I hit those 15gb, I have a godlike downloadspeed of 8 kb/s. Nothing what could get the job done.

Lol. Low Internet speed is not the only issue indeed. Others have data caps and whatnot. One time I was downloading a patch from Steam and I got a bsod after 7 straight hours of downloading a small patch. I was hopeful that my interrupted download was going to resume where it left off, but no. I almost punched the freaking screen.

I′m sure I′m not the only one opting out of both Skyrim and Fallout 4 because of this. And all future titles if they continue down this road which I′m sure they will.

When I pay for a game, I pay to own it. Not to rent it.

I was so excited about FO4. They knew all along what they were doing. On Tweeter, about six times fans were asking Pete Hines about how much data they needed to download approximately. He never answered them despite answering other questions from fans. It was right there when I smelled something rotten. Indeed, he had previously said about the physical version having only one DVD with about 4-5GB. But afterwards he always seemed reluctant to speak about it again.

Oh well, we can't force Beth to do something that is not in their best interest. But certainly, they won't see my $60 - actually $120 because I was going to buy one for a good friend of mine.

But I will definitely see the FO4 reviews and walkthroughs by fans next week! I don't care about the spoilers since I won't be playing this game.

So you have never bought a game in your life? Because, according to those EULAs you have been agreeing to since the late 80's, you have never owned any software, music, or movie, you purchased, and the companies have every right to come and take it from you if they so desire.

Only issue about piracy is that they block access to the game until launch, as it takes some days to get an workable crack this delay the spread of the pirated version.

Hard to believe that they have not released the pc download size yet. What is the big secret about that?

As for 1 disk because of piracy I don't buy that. Does not make sense. Having 2 or 3 disks containing the bulk of the game would have cost a few cents more.

That is more likely to be the reason.

I reckon that couple cents savings will cost me $30 - $40 to upgrade my cap. And a couple of days of grim downloading.

Really was not expecting this when I pre-ordered .

Really retailers should be required to advertise prominently "requires a download of xxGB."

So as not to snag the unwary. (like me)

23,8 gb as of now. Could be more at release day. Somehow I feel a 5gb releaseday patch incoming <.<.

Rotinom is that a confirmed figure? Is it 23.8GB when unpacked on your computer? Hardly a compressed download of 23.8gb, which would then be double that when uncompressed on your hd.

The size of the actual download is the critical figure, when planning to upgrade my bandwidth cap.

Nope that's the Steam download size.

No clue what it is installed/uncompressed, not ready yet. But ~30GB HDD space would give a clue what it should be around.

Guess uncompressed: ~28 gb.

This is true, you only need to hold back the exe and dll's.

On the other hand just downloading everything is easier for 90% than being an disc jockey for many their download speed is higher than the dvd reading speed anyway.

Yes its hit the 5% out in the outback and the 5% hit by monopoly cable companies.

I'm not sure how accurate the 90% download is if you are referring to this game buyers. The point is Bethesda are too scared to just go straight digital yet they are ignorant enough to think they can shoehorn disc buyers into going digital. If digital was a complete option for everyone than this wouldn't be an issue. I can't cancel my order because its already shipped, but I won't open it when I get it. If disc owners having to DL 20+GB turns out true I will be returning it, stating very clearly the reason for is because there was no warning that 75%( or w/e it comes out to ) of the game was not on the disc and had to be downloaded.

My buddy has a PS4, can just borrow it and rent the game for a one off play through.

I bought the game on Steam and it took me 16 hours to download the pre-loaded content, which was 25-26 Gigs. I will have a backup copy of the game stored off my hard drive. Not going through that wait again. Now if I learn there is a good deal of content on the DVD, I'll buy another copy of the game just for that.

Well, doesn't affect me, as i already have it pre-loaded, but what is the point of even releasing it on disc if it only has a quarter of the entire game?

And i also have a Blu-Ray drive, but i've only used DVDs on it :lmao: Well, PCs are all about the Cloud and in a pinch USB Drives these days

On the other hand Steam User agreement also breaks EU rules very hard, Steam would never dare to take you to court in EU.

Yes some people has trolled with this, like withholding money on their credit card after buying an game who does not work.

Steam block their account, their response is first to pirate all the games they own, documenting it all and sending it to Steam.

You get no response, no matter if you repeat this public on all AAA games for years you get no response.
Steam know they will loose the first one, the second the would win but had to change their rules anyway.

Note that the new Steam refund policy has probably changed this, doing this would be illegal for you anyway, kind of using an fatman in an melee, you win but die.

I give up. I have searched everywhere, while trying to avoid hundreds of spoilers. I can find nothing anywhere about the actual size of the steam download for the retail version. One would think they were avoiding that subject. Or hiding it .

Every detail about xbox and ps versions can be found though. Even the size of the day 1 patch.

Well nothing more to be done about it now, just wait and hope for the best.

I'll know better next time.
