I've been playing the PS4 - but wanted to try the PC version (Got a 980GTX just collecting dust) - will my Microsoft XBOX controller (which works with my PC) work ok with the game? I bought a Sony 55" 4k for gaming stuffs. Want to utilize all this gear for a good game.

Yes, Xbox controllers work plug and play with Windows, and the PC version of the game has controller support.

However you can't switch between the controller and mouse and keyboard on the fly, so make sure the controller is plugged in before starting the game. I was wrong, you can, just have to switch controller on or off in the options.

I play with xbox controller too. I played Fallout 3 with an xbox 360 controller. It works great. Are you getting good fps at 4K?

I'm afraid to move to 4K since everything works so well at 1080p on my old 780GTX.

I have not tried it yet with a game where I might see the 4k in action. When I watched videos in real 4k that were gameplay, I never noticed a big difference from 4k vs 2k resolution. My 980 is a reference board, i'll see how it performs after I finish cooking dinner. I have everything set up, bought a Logitech wireless keyboard/mouse combo to control everything from one device. :D

TBH you would need a stronger graphics card. 4k is ok yea but 1440p (MASTER RACE) is, for me and many others, indistinguishable from 4k. So fewer pixel, less to drive and essentially the same. But that's my little reccomendation thrown in. I'm using a 980 ti @1440p, maximum settings with a fair number of visual mods. Things do drop as low as 30% at times. Avg 70fps in the world and 144hz solid in instanced areas. Soooo much more display to drive.... It'd either be eye candy concessions or a gpu upgrade. Stick with the 1080p man, I was screaming 1080p Master Race until three weeks ago :) After muling it over for 2 months, reasearching everything i could, three spreadsheets later, response times, torque ratios..... welll I didn't smash it into a tree but I was still unsure. But now having done it I know I made the right choice for me. But I'd advise to make no changes unless it involves a refresh rate over 75hz. A 144 display and actually hitting that in dungeons.... sweet baby jesus.

OP

Controller works as everyone said but do you have a recliner? I rolled pc gaming in a la-z-boy for years on the big screen. hard mouse pad on the wide arm rest and keyboard in lap. explore your options :)

Can you imagine how many people would pitch a fit if you couldn't use a controller with the game?

Bethesda would never hear the end of it!!

It wouldn't play without a controller. I ended up ditching my 360 controller once I realized my PS4 controller worked via a cable. As far as the game on the PC with my 4k, have to say it is amazing, I was pretty quick to install Nexasmods and installed the top environment and clothing mods - what a difference!! The realism of the world is much greater now.

I'll finish out my PS4 char, but switching to the PC/mods going forward.

Your console will give you HD, well the PS4 anyway. I believe the bone runs at less resolution. That all you get, a 4K TV does nothing for you. They can barely push HD.

I run a 30" 2560x1600 display myself and I need my GTX 780 to push that many pixels.

I play in my lounge as well, using computer + 57 inch TV through HDMI, with a wireless mouse and keyboard. Very comfy and everything is huge and quite immersive, and sounds great with 5.1 (noises from everywhere - duck!).

I sprawl out on my couch with the mouse beside me and the keyboard on my lap. And I'd never switch to a controller. interactions with things are so much more precise and accurate with the mouse. And I know because I also game with my PS4, PS3 and 360.

My set up is a 58" Samsung LED smarttv. game looks awesome. but one of these days I may need to upgrade my graphics card. it is a couple years old.

Small update here. I actually added a few visual mods but disabled God Rays. TBH I'm going to go look that up now, I couldn't tell a difference between enabled and diabled in a variety of settings. I can tell however that 110fps avg in the world and 144 locked in dungeon settings is awesome.

PSA: Disable god rays.

Both consoles are locked at 1080p@30 FPS. The Xbox One might have a few more issues with maintaining the 30FPS.
