Pc version: Proving that FPS belong on PC and PC only.

Post » Mon Mar 28, 2011 4:05 am

Your trying to say because your plaing brink on a pc and enjoying it, that all FPS's belong on a PC? Thats just stupid. FPS's are much better on a console IMO. I just like using a controller and playing on my screen over being hunched over to use my keyboard. I havent touched a FPS on a PC since counter strike....consoles are just smoother and alot easier to socialize with people...f*** ventrilo

Well auto-aim does help. You can use a controller with your pc, you can also hook up your pc to your tv if you so desire, so that you can lounge in the bed/sofa. How are consoles smoother? that makes no sense, the pc is more powerful and thereby deliver better performance, graphics and smoother gameplay.

The one thing that is good about consoles is the price. Everything else can be done better on a pc.

Since the original post opened up this can of worms and since people have been touching on all the PC v. Console points here Ill go ahead and get on my soapbox for a moment:

Console myths:

1. They are cheaper than PCs! Not quite. When you add in all the peripheral devices needed, and if you include a large hi-def TV into that list, the cost just about equals out. Also, console games still tend to cost more and have shorter play lives than most PC titles, so less bang for you buck there.

2. You dont need to upgrade consoles! Not quite. Ive yet to know a console owner who hasnt already bought a new iteration of the console they currently own - these companies come out with a new version of their consoles every few years and guess who buys them ... people who already own the older version. That is an upgrade no matter how you slice it. Also, the ability of consumers to upgrade their PCs gives PC gamers a lot of flexibility in terms of adjusting to advances in game technology - console user dont have this capability.

3. Its less of a headache to operate consoles! Hmm ... well I think People with Sony accounts may be having second thoughts about that.

Console strengths:

There is only one certain console strength, and that is the ability to play games with friends in the same physical space on one machine, e.g the living room experience. This has always been the appeal of consoles (going all the way back to Atari, Collecovision, Intelivision, etc) and its their one true advantage over PC gaming. Here's the irony though, more and more console titles are moving away from this ability and focusing on single player or play via online.

Bottom line: PC > Console

Consoles and their recent craze (this is what, the third generation of this) is largely due to marketing - its been designed to appeal to young gamers (pre-teens/teens/early 20s) and their parents. You cant beat a PC for gaming - especially shooters and MMORPGs, and you cant beat the extra functionality of a PC. As the current generation of gamers who grew up with PS and 360 gets older I think you'll see more and more of them grow out of consoles and embrace PCs - except for the Wii, because the Wii is the only console to really play on the one true advantage of consoles.

just stick a hdmi out from graphics into your TV or home cinema. i have PC and PS3 hooked up to a £4k home cinema system. wireless mouse and keyboard :)

brink will be the first PC game i bought since bad company 2. the beauty of the PC version is that i can play on my monitor (24") with headphones while the wife is watching some crap on TV or or can play via a 42" HDTV with B&W speakers when she is out or reading. :)

since devs seem to keep dumbing down for consoles (not console owners fault) stuff for online always seems much better on PC. things like dedicated servers over P2P is enough of a reason. and games like bf3 will be much better on pc. 24 players? pah. it will be 64 on pc. i feel for consolers who have never played a 64 man server in battlefield. it feels like a war not a skirmish!

of course you have flexibility in both platforms. you can use an xbox/ds3 pad on the PC and you can use ps move or something like fragfx on console. i just dont like the aim assists that consoles have built in, with massive hitboxes etc. the console pad is a limitation and therefor devs build in extra large hitboxes etc. when M$ were trying to get PC and xbox to play together thy had to abandon it due to PC players wiping the floor with console players. a mouse in good hands will always beat a console pad in good hands, the mouse is degigned to be an accelerated pointer, the anologue pads just arent.

Nope, I run my PS3 on a Samsung XL2370. Cheap and works fine! Other than that I don't have any peripherals I didn't have on my PC and usually buy games on the cheap.

I think there are plenty of PS3 owners with an early generation PS3. Plus, the PS3 is dirt cheap these days. I can buy four for the same money I spent on my PC.

3. Its less of a headache to operate consoles! Hmm ... well I think People with Sony accounts may be having second thoughts about that.

No, not really. I was a lot more worried with my PC.

Bottom line: PC > Console

Well, I disagree on the myths, but this I do agree on.

Yeah if you spent the money building a gaming pc sure the game will run just as smooth as an xbox. But regardless, i prefer xbox better. The party system [censored] on anything a computer will have, the XBL friends list is too useful. Microsoft makes it alot easier for u to play the game, and auto-aim? I can shut that off so thats not a problem. But no im not going to go hook up my PC to my TV just so i can play brink. Im going to buy it for 360 and enjoy it with my friends. Why are u guys trying to convince me to play on a PC? PC games have no social aspects to them. XBL is the perfect setup for a gamer and his friends, sorry that you guys like to IM your friends and tell them to connect to your ventrilo server that will take a half hour to get into because the idiot doesnt know how to enter the right port code. Or i can just press invite to party.

Xbox live = Simple - something the pc knows nothing about.

Not trying to convince you to switch but just saying us PC players have Steam with: a friends list, voice chat built in (also using the skype codec), and pretty much any other feature xbox live has, as well as a web browser without having to alt-tab.

Actually Steam does work with every game available. And those people need to be a little safer trolling around the net, its no worse then people getting their xbox live accounts hacked.

1. You are then not the norm for console gamer.

2. Many (most actually Id say) console gamers own two of the three console brands (often PS or 360 with a Wii), and most bought those machines when they launched and when the pricing was highest.

3. You say you own a PC - you make my point. Most folks when they move out of their parents are going to have to own a PC for personal use, and with a little extra money they can use those PCs for gaming, a gaming experience which is superior to console gaming - its that fact that I believe will eventually kill off the current console boom.

good to know. Havent used steam since counter strike source came out.

Regardless, I prefer xbox. Everything about the xbox is simple, while the PC version may be cool and all, I just like xbox better. Plus to the person up there who said a mouse is easier than a controller..thats your opinion, but turn my sensitivity up on my xbox controller and ill head shot you faster than youll head shot me.

Thats not true. How are you going to say PC games are going to kill off consoles? Pc games have been around forever and havent killed off consoles at all. Plus no matter what, consoles will always have the better games , and if PC's do get the game it doesnt come out til months after. Aka halo, call of duty, gears of war

lol ya steam was pretty crappy back then, only supported Half-Life 2 and CS:Source and I think a couple other games, it also was a resource hog. Its come a long way since then.

Well it doesnt sound as if you are very familiar with the history of PC/Console gaming. Console gaming has gone through 3 generations and the previous two went from boom and bust. What Im saying is that I think that the current gen. of consoles are going to go bust as well. PC gaming has always been with us and will remain. Regarding "consoles having better games" ... well I just beg to differ, consoles games IMO simply are dumbed down versions of PC games, always have and always will be.

Thats just how u feel and thats fine. To me the only difference between a console game and a PC game is that u can change up the settings a bit more, and its alot easier to get an "aimbot" in a PC game than in a console. Regardless its cool thats your decision. But the next nintendo system is going to have 6 inch screens on the brand new tablet controllers...i think PC's have a little bit of a run for there money now. And who knows what the new xbox / ps3 will look like but I think that it will always be the same. PC gamers will like pc games, xbox will prefer xbox , ps3 will prefer ps3, nintendo will prefer nintendo.

My friend said super mario galaxy is one of his favorite games ever. I said it svcked because its full of gay rainbows and smiling stars falling from the sky. Its all about opinion =)

Oh...and ive been playing PC/Console games for almost my whole life.

Recent craze of consoles due to marketing? What on earth.. pretty sure consoles have been consistently popular from the NES.

Including the tv and peripheral price is stupid because you can say the exact same thing for the pc with the monitor and such. The reality is that most people will use the tv they already have for tv/movies, and most people will use the same monitor/keyboard/etc. they already have for normal pc use. The 360 and ps3 need their own hardware, but they come with everything you need out of the box at no extra cost, aside from a 3 dollar hdmi cord for the ps3 if they still dont have that in there.

The PC of course has a thousand other things you do on it... that most people can do on the pc they already have or on a very cheap PC, and thus the difference in price between a "normal" pc and gaming PC would be the real cost of gaming. Which can be big if you are buying it put together.

Completely silly console wars arguments are what people grow out of over time. If anything as I've gotten older I've stopped caring about trying to get every frame, pixel and shader out of a game and played on consoles just because it doesnt freakin matter, the fun stays the same. There are some genres you need to play on PC for mosue controls (fps isnt one of them), but beyond that I dont care what Im playing on. People trying to feel superior over what electronic device they own is just ridiculous. Buy whatever has the games you want to play and forget about it.

Lol, consoles have BUILT-IN aimbots. The reason alot of console players say "I svck at using KB+Mouse" is because on a pc they don't have the aimbot, and since they aren't used to playing without it, it's suddenly alot harder.

FPS games are fine on consoles...if done right. The problem is...developers get lazy when making them for consoles. Medal of Honor single player, and Brink prove that you can have lean on console shooters. Why not add it in for all when the PC Counter part has it? It makes no sense. There also needs to be lobbies. I would like to know if the game I joined has extremely high ping or not, so I can avoid it. Graphics I could care less about...Hell, I sometimes play games on the lowest graphical settings just because.

RTS games on the other hand...need to stay as far far away from consoles as possible. I have Red Alert 3 and Command And Conquer 3 for Xbox...and have played them on PC as well...Their Console counter parts are soooo terrible.

MMOs could work...could being the key word. There just hasn't been a good one lately for consoles. At all.

Agreed OP.

Playing Brink on anything but PC is a mistake. Playing any FPS on console is a mistake, ultimately. PC is vastly superior for FPS games.
