Pc version: Proving that FPS belong on PC and PC only.

Post » Sun Mar 27, 2011 7:30 am

Depends on what you fancy. I prefer my Halo and Battlefield on console (it's to intense on PC). I usually rock up into a internet cafe to play like CoD with my friends on PC, that's the best.

Well my laptop isn't good enough to run Brink, so I'm going to be stuck with the 360 version. I just hope to hell all these problems are fixed by friday...

Well, the primary thing consoles need to run/play this game as smoothly as PCs ... are dedicated servers. Now, I am not talking about graphical differences and all that stuff. I am primarily talking about lag and matchmaking ... give consoles dedicated servers (whether for free or ones that we pay for) and life would be much improved.

That said, so far all I have done is play some co-op with someone who lives nearby. We had some good times last night.

Hi. Im Cali. . .the thing is this. Technology is developing so fast in this day and age that to PC game is simply for the rich. As soon as I drop 300 cash on the state of the art graphics card, a better one comes out next week. At least with PS3, which is better than all the crappy 360 videos(BLAME IT ON THE ALCOHOL), I have a level playing field.

If you spend good money on building a good PC that PC will still last 1 - 4 years in the gaming world.

Why do you guys always need to tell people that you think pcs are better? Every now and then I read a comment like that and now you've made a whole thread for it...

I have always preferred consoles to PC. With all the additional options on PC comes even more things to ruin the experience, plus more players isn't always better. The mouse creates a smaller skill gap and more random encounters since both guys are capable of instantaneous perfect aim. You have to work to master a controller, but once you do it's the most rewarding experience you can have playing a FPS. Basically, console FPS is better for true competition, while PC is more for fun.

PC player here. Game runs fine, and is insanely fun.
Been playing a little of each class so far (minus the Operative) I think I like the soldier overall.

Loving the game. Strangely, when I play it I get a feeling of nostalgia even though the game has only been out for a day. Something about the feel of it just does it for me. It feels classic, but in a good way.

Title suggested a flame war but I have to disagree. I like my xbox and I don't get much lag, and I do have a laptop but it's slow and I don't trust buying new games for it. And no, not pc only. Maybe for MMORPGs but FPS is multisystem

i'm a PC guy too!
i play a medium medic lvl 6 or 7 and it's SUPER fun!
i got the graphics at medium which are still VERY VERY good!

the ONLY time i had a problem with the game was during one match the audio just cut out, idk if it was the server or whatnot but having no sound blows :(

The PS3 version is the optimal version though. None of the texture bugs, no having to waste hundreds of dollars on things that will become useless after 2 years.

I own all consoles and a high end pc, yet I bought this game for Xbox 360. Why you ask? Because the 360 has a better multiplayer experience imo. If you don't own all the consoles and a pc, then your opinion is pretty biased. I have a lot of friends on xbox I want to play with, and that was one of the deciding factors. I feel that if you are good, the controller vs keyboard and mouse thing shouldn't be an issue. I play pc games with controller online and I do perfectly fine. I just wish all the elitist crap would stop.

Just finished finals, time to pack up the room, and flee in to the Ark for a few days... That said, the PC players seem to have a really different perspective from the console players. TF2 players dig Brink

Sure there is. Certain things just work better on certain platforms
A fighter on PC? ackward as hell and suffers from keyboard limitations
a RTS on console? holy crap, i know they did this with starcraft and that was, hahah oh wow, sorry doesnt work

a FPS on console? Sure, just enjoy your massive auto aim because a joystick can never be as smoothe as a mouse, enjoy your 0 mod capabilites, no dedicated servers to allow different customizations (20 player Brink server on pc? Check the server list) Not to mention with brink relying alot on parkour it means lots of running sliding and spinning your camera multiple directions which cannot be done smoothly or accuratly with a joystick.

Sorry, but The 360 version is inferior in this case.

I aim and stuff just as fine with joysticks as with a mouse.... and i can turn smooth and acurate with my joystick... have you even tried learning to play with joysticks/ps3 or 360 controls? And i dont use autoaim.. why does everyone think that people that uses consoles can't aim?

Because they tried it once for a few minutes, svcked at it, and came to the conclusion that because they can't aim with a controller, nobody can.

Honestly, I have the opposite problem... I blow at playing FPS games on the PC because I'm so used to a controller. Hence why I haven't finished Crysis yet.

Well I just woke-up and saw this at page 3 ans was amused to see so. For the last couple posters, if you read my first post you would see that I own both the 360, PS3, and wii, as well as a high end PC.
To those that replied "durr i can aim just fine" Of COURSE you can, because just about every console fps has a built in auto aim, so long as your crosshair is a few inches from an enemy it gladly moves it right on top of the enemy for you, that is unacceptable imo as that is clearly making up for the lack of finess to manually aim with a controller. So in reality, no, you cant aim just fine by yourself, because the game wont let you.

And no, its not that I cant aim with a controller, it is just awkward as hell. Goldeneye on n64? hell yeah that was fun as crap, and that game had 0 auto aim, its a timeless classic that probably didn't need to work on the PC. Why? because it was offline, throw lag into the mix and well now we run into issues.

I have a number of FPS (halo2,halo3, Killzone2, few others i cant recall) for console, and they're fun, but nowheres near as fun or easily playable as on the PC.

Also wanted to throw in there that I only upgrade my pc once every 2 1/2 to 3 years... I upgraded my machine about 8 months ago currently, but the one thing I didnt upgrade is my video card, still running an older 8800 GTS, I got it to run crysis at max which it did, and nothing that has been released since then has needed me to upgrade my video card further. If you buy cheap/barely upgraded parts then of course you will have to update constantly, if you buy a $1000 1995 honda civic, don't expect the whole thing to not fall apart in a year or two.

I turn auto-aim off... It annoys me. I'll be trying to snipe and then an enemy crosses in front of me, taking my aim off my target. I download a ton of stuff so I have to upgrade my storage more often than not. I'm still running a 8600. I mainly play on consoles to avoid all the hackers that are prevalent on PC games.

I will agree with you on RTS games and MMOs though. Only a few RTS games are actually good on the consoles. And for MMOs there is no substitute for hotkeys. But really it all up to preference. Whether or not one is better than the other depends on the person.

Totally agree and I am glad I bought this for PC. The only games that do run better on the 360 compared to PC is the latest COD series games but that is only becouse Activision and Treyarch and leeching off the console community.

Only 1 issue I have had so far is that when I have a few of the graphic settings like the lighting and another one I get connection lag. It is not performance issue it has something to do with the net coding for the game.

I have a pc, that I play the most on, I also have a 360 (and had the regular xbox before that) my brother has a wii, and we have had the usual assortment of nintendo's, super nintendos, nintendo 64's, ps's ps2's. So I have played, ALOT, with a controller, and also tried some shooters on the consoles. Not much because by god I hate the auto aim, yes you can probably turn it off, but to me it feels like there is always a little bit left of it even if the menu says "off" (not all games on the console lets you do this though). I just cannot play with auto aim, I find it cheap and horrid. Hence why I have 3 games total for my Xbox; ME (also have the pc version now, I got it for the xbox when bioware was still saying it would never appear on the pc :(), GTA 4 and Jade Empire (had it since I bought the original xbox).

In my opinion, games that are good on consoles are: Sports games, fighting games and driving games. Almost everything else works better on the pc.

The irony of this is that if SD could code properly on a console this thread would not be needed. Is the PC version the best? Easily as SD has more experience on that platform than any other. Saying that Brink is better on the PC is the same as saying that SD has very litle experience on the consoles. Yes, let's praise a developer for lacking the proper skills to deliver the best experience on all platforms.
