PC Version Request To Bethesda

Good points. We're probably not going to be getting a SKSE (Skyrim Script Extender) or SKMM (Skyrim Mod Manager), which will hurt a lot of us in the modding community, even though some people (like me) refuse to use a script extender or mod manager.

I'm truly baffled as to why anyone wouldn't want to use a script extender and even more so a mod manager

I'm not buying Skyrim until Steam shuts down if Skyrim is going to require Steam. Remember Dragon Age? That was terrible. Get banned on the site, you get banned in the game. If we get banned on Steam, we'll probably be banned in Skyrim. And not everyone has internet connection.

Don't get banned? You shouldn't be getting banned in the first place from anything.
It's not hard to not get banned.

Are you saying you never have gotten banned before from anywhere? Mistakes are made by people. It's normal.

I don't like the idea of using a third-party program to start up my game. And there aren't too many mods out there (although there are a handful) that I really want that require OBSE or OBMM.

If you're talking about Nehrim's inventory screen...it used another mod. http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=3595&navtag=file/images.php?id=3595&tab=3. And everything else (such as the map) used the Darnified UI (except the full map, I don't recall that in Darnified UI).

I didn't know that! Well, Then.... Fingers crossed! :)

Personally I love Steam and have a lot of games in my Steam Library - I expect to purchase Skyrim via Steam too. However, I do agree that a single player game should not require Steam or any sort of online connection at all - and my relationship with Steam did not start out well, when I purchased CIV 5 and had to install the Steam client to be able to play it and I was quite cross about that! But I have since realised that Steam is a lesser evil than GFWL (which I have for FO3 and Batman: Arkham Asylum) and therefore I don't mind it too much, because it could be worse. One thing that does make me laugh is when PC gamers say they will buy a game for a console to avoid the DRM, without getting the irony that a console is the biggest form of DRM.... that's not an anti-console statement btw, having spent the last 36 hours straight running various diagnostics on my husband's PC and fiddling about with the innards to try to get it to boot up I am about ready to chuck it out the window and go buy him an Xbox instead!!!!!

Well once you get the things set up you do not need to launch it from there..

Wait... what?
Skyrim will force on steam?
Only today I talked to my brother saying I will NOT buy a steam version of the game or install the game on steam.. if they really are forcing us to use steam like many (bad..) game companies are, I might actully not buy the game.. even if it was my most anticipated game of the year, for YEARS now.. (even before it was announced)

I mean I can understand when a company like blizzard gets screwed over by activision and stuff, but skyrim is being made by a closed company(at least I though it was? I know it is owned by yet another company, but even that is closed and not open? (aka not just any one can buy stocks in it?(I forgot what the different company types were called) so they ought not to have the excuse of being screwed over like that.
There is no reason to force steam. Oblivion sold very well and it never forced steam on me.

OBMM you do not need to open it after you have the files activated from it. You can just pop in the Oblivion disk and play the same way, the mods you activated in OBMM will show up in the Oblivion data files that you click when you start it.

So what if Skyrim requires it? It doesn't affect the game's quality in the slightest.

Yes it does. I want to be able to play Skyrim without needing internet connection. And I have to download Steam, right? That means it takes up space on my computer, which slows down my Skyrim.

There is an option to patch the games. It's in your settings.

Well it's a little late to tell me that now *looks at estimated patch download time* :P. You get a cookie anyway :cookie:

I'm pretty sure they meant launching the game through the script extender which is required.

Yes, And it's not hard to install/uninstall mods without the mod manager. I can delete files. It's not hard. And OBMM wasn't working for me when I tried to install it (I REALLY wanted Darnified UI, and it wasn't working properly when I tried to manually install it). Gave me some sort of stupid error.

Steam takes up marginal room on a pc and if you need that much space, you have bigger issues. Also you only need steam online upon the start up of the computer, you can go into offline mode any time.

What if I'm canceling my internet in two months? Then I won't be able to play Skyrim without having to get an internet company again, right?

There are literally dozens of AAA games releasing on Steam, as steam controls 70% of it's market.

I don't have a giant problem with steam, I use it a lot. But it has it's problems and I really do not agree with being forced to use it. There is just something about being forced to use things, aka kinda like if you were forced to only use 1h swords in the game.. give me the option?
anyway, I got a good list of problems with steam.
1.
If a game is on steam, you can not play it without internet conection!
(You get kicked out of the game if connection breaks, which were I live happens quite a lot)
2.
If you wish to play on another computer, you can not do so without first installing steam, then installing skyrim(very slowly at that..) then being forced to check for patches and DL them, then play the game
3. if steam is down, you are screwed.
4. installing on steam means no awesome install screens.(might just be me, but I LOVED the old installations of the 2004 and such times. You know, with background pics of the game playing in background, sometimes even music.. Kinda like what SC2 did, in fact they could like in SC2 explain the backplot or some lore while installing.. won't work with steam I think)
5.Losing my steam means losing the game.
6.I can not install my game wherever I want to install it.(which is not anymore a problem for me, but at some point still will be. I have a hardrive with a lot of space, and one with a little, steam was installed on my little space hardrive. I was FORCED to install all steam using games in my steam folder)
7.(Important) steam can mess with mods.(or mod tools, there is a case of this in oblivion)
8.You are taking away options from me...
I ran out for now.. but anyone who wants to add to the list is free to

You shouldn't be getting banned in the first place from anything.

Unless there's a computer glitch, or a miscommunication. I'm sure http://meandmymac.net/987/lost-my-steam-account-again/ appreciated getting banned for doing nothing wrong (with the kicker that it wasn't even a miscommunication with him, but between Valve and Paypal). I bet he, too, would've liked his single player games to help pass the time while Valve and Paypal got their crap together.

I shouldn't have to worry about my access to games I paid for being dependent on a perpetual agreement between me and third-party (and if that agreement is ever broken, including by them, I lose access no matter how long I've had it). If me and BestBuy (or Bethesda) have a disagreement, I don't have to return the games I bought from them. Why should I be made to with Steam?

9. Get banned from Steam, you get banned from your game.
10. You might get falsely accused of pirating the game.
11. Steam doesn't stop piracy.
12. There's really no point in requiring Steam.

You pretty much got everything else. But I bet there are 100 more reasons.
