PC version of Skyrim?

Post » Thu Oct 06, 2011 5:37 pm

am i the only one worried that skyrim been ported from console to pc?

im pretty sure it will be full of bugs,

i know they will fix it eventually but how bad will it be? and how long will it take to fix it?

bethesda currently working none stop on finishing the game, but what about working on a good port and testing bugs on the PC?

from my experiance every ported game i played on the PC, felt wierd and broken, for example Dead island, Resident Evil 4, Rage. those are only few

and it is a fact, that all ported games to pc needed alot of patch's just to make the game playable. and dont get me started on the user interface, you can actully see alot of times how the interface was built for controllers, on most of the ports, there is the well known "press L2", i mean whath? im on the PC!

It'll be fine. They're giving the PC version special attention even though the game is primarily designed for the 360. Besides... there's always mods.

Seems like the magic number for proper patches these days is 1 month, yes I'm worried but theres nothing I can do about it. Do I hate game companies these days constantly pandering to console users? yes but I also understand that a game is a product and it all boils down to the almighty dollar and the most sold wins the race...

I'm not so much worried about bugs with the game per say. Poor optimization for PC hardware, poor UI design since it will be the same UI the consoles get, and lack of PC features to support the hardware (everything from control scheme to suit mouse/keyboard up to and including things like proper multi-core support) are the things I'm concerned about. And of course all the nice things we already know we aren't getting like DX11 support and 64 bit exe.

Not really Beth come from pc background and said they'll take special care of it. Also please don't turn this into a "stupid consoles make me angry and Beth don't care about us pc gamer fans because bla bla bla"

And I'm getting on PC and xBox.

Your one of the few that post new topics about the pc port

Bethesda has a great track record so far doubt they'll stuff up and you haven't seen any pc game footage yet (or have you...)

We can't say how bad/good Skyrim is going to be regarding bugs untill we play it or get reviews, as with my previous sentence we can't judge without proof

They did with Oblivion, Fallout 3, (possibly Morrowind), according to Bethesda they spend a large amount of time polishing the game to a certain extent (fixing some bugs may cause major bugs etc) I think they spend 2-3 months polishing, fixing etc (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DbQK3cURWDA that's part 1 of him explaining how they spent making Fallout 3)
and personally I wouldn't be worrying about a bad port since looking at their previous games all of which were great ports (except ports to the ps3 from what I know)

Didn't they release/publish the wrong version of Dead Island?, Rage is going to be fixed by the way, also you thought those games were bad try Scarface on its pc port that gives me the shivers

Not all games majorty of games are quite average-good ports occasionaly you'll get that really bad port (Scarface...), in my 11 years of gaming i've occasionaly gotten a bad port most of the time their pretty good or at least a simple port with minor errors. Never happened to me before what game was that?

Also trust Bethesda they love their baby (Elder scrolls) they'll try to make sure its perfection or near perfection for all of their platforms

What? Looking at Oblivion and FO3 the first thoughts that pop into mind are certainly not "great port". I'm actually a little flabbergasted at that statement, particularly FO3.

Maybe I was lucky enough to start Oblivion with its first 1-2 patches with only minor bugs appearing, granted fallout 3 wasn't a perfect picture but it still worked pretty good with minimal amount of bugs

Btw I agree I may overstated the port lets down it to a good port lol

We can fix bugs, not a bad port. That would require an extensive UI overhaul and, frankly speaking, not many modders would try and fix a broken game when most of the audience has moved away because the game svcked when it was released. Hopefully this does not happen to Skyrim.

I'm worried after the crap that was pulled with RAGE. It is horrible on PC, the worst port I have ever played, and drivers are not gunna fix a lot of it's issues.

Soooo ya, I'm a tad bit worried, considering RAGE is under Bethesda as is Skyrim.

Obsidian made that one and ID made rage for the guy above the guy I'm quoting. (using mobil version of the website and I don't know how to multi-quote on it)

Yes they published but Bethesda softworks (Todd and the guys making the game) didn't touch it.

Bugs is only a small issue, and as I said not really something I'm worried about. Things like FO3 crashing on quad-core machines and having to edit the ini to force the game to only use 2 cores is more what I am talking about. Things like UI's and controls designed specifically for use with a gamepad being copy/pasted into the PC version where folks are using a mouse/keyboard, things like having to hack the exe to allow it to use more that 1/4th the available memory of any baseline system being sold today, these are the types of things folks playing on PC should be concerned about.

I am expecting a similar port to what Morrowind and Oblivion were. some problems, not super game breaking. fixed by patch. Neither Morrowind or Oblivion ran well if low FPS, and tended to crash more. so keep the game running smooth to decrease odds of crashing. Options menu mostly out of game, no biggy.

I'm not worried. It will be a rocky start for a bit, but a little time and the game will be beyond exceptional. I expect no less, and no more.
