PC Version: Yes or no?

Post » Mon Apr 21, 2014 6:18 pm

Excuse me if this has already been asked (possibly numerous times)...but I'm curious. I've played Skyrim extensively on Xbox 360 but never dabbled with the PC version at all, and now I notice Steam has the Legendary edition on sale for £29.99 so I'm tempted.

What I'm asking, really: Is it worth it? I know that mods and such exist though I wouldn't have a clue where or how to start using those, but does it make sense to play what is essentially the same game just on a different platform? Can anyone give me an idea to how radically mods can improve the gameplay?

Thanks in advance.

Here is a http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=_72A8l1Spm0 that can serve as a reference, by no means is it limited to just what is shown in the video, and the left screen at the beginning is the original, to the right is modded.

Worth it, no doubt. Mods improve the game drastically. Also, if you're not sure how/where to start modding your game, look up Gopher's "Beginner's Guide to Modding Skyrim" series on YouTube. :)

^This.

Though it's a pain at first to pick out your mods, check for compatabilities, clean them up and organize them, in the end there is no comparison... I won't even touch the console version with a 50ft pole now.

PC = Mods.

M'aiq suggests pick what is better for you. If Console is better, pick it, all are the same in M'aiq's opinion.

As a console user who is moving over to PC (my computer's getting slightly better with each peice of hardware I duct tape to it) I'd say yes, absolutely. If you're not a massive keyboard/mouse fan you can get a controller, or just use a wired XBOX controller. The mods (and console, for that matter) make the game far more interesting.

As a console user who has moved to PC, I say ABSOLUTELY do it. Mods make a great game into a fantastic game. And, as someone else mentioned, watch (and then rewatch) Gopher's modding videos. They made my transition from Xbox to modded PC easy.

Duct tape...that's an idea. Bluetack isn't doing the job for me.

Joking aside, the PC version offers the player the chance to use mods. Depending on how you approach mods, they can either be a pain or enhance your gaming experience in ways you...er, I can't say couldn't imagine because obviously the modders imagined it. If the OP did opt for the PC version, take it nice and easy with the mods, research, and use features like BOSS (Better Oblivion Sorting Software - it works for the other TES games and sorts mods in an appropriate load order, the biggest issue with mod conflicts) and Nexus Mod Manager.

Just having unofficial patches (and console commands for quick little fixes) make things way better. I'd definitely recommend the PC version, especially if you get it on sale.

No-Brainer here. Yes get it for the PC. Though I cannot afford it for my PC.... Yet.... I too only played it on the Xbox 360 (Which I no longer own). Not only are there countless mods to improve on what Bethseda/ZeniMax set as a base, but the graphics are likely also sharper on the PC as they tend to reduce the resolution for consoles. It is just as well though that I do not have it yet as the Mod that I want is still a work in progress (Unique Beast Races).

Awsome, though i question how this would work with all the different armors in the game.

Yes, without hesitation.

No matter where your interests lie in Skyrim, there are mods to seriously expand upon them.

Absolutely. This should not even be a question. My short time on PC (2 hours) worth, was better than the hundreds or thousands of hours I've spent on console.

Get it.

Not only are the redoing the models to include beast style feet to give them a digitgrade look, but they also have people reworking the armors to match the new models. You can look at their progress so far on it on the Nexus Mods site on the Forums. They actually have many of the Vanilla Armors completed to work with the beast style feet, but they're still working on clothing and other finishing touches (Also I believe they're still working on the Khajiit models). They have 3+ People working on it together.

Awsome :D but i was mostly talking about the popular armor mods like Immersive Armors and the like, though it is cool that they redid the vanilla ones to fit the models. It's also good to hear they are doing the Khajiit models too :)

I play on both PC and console and I find PC more faster in terms of movement and reflexes. The key shortcuts (hotkeys) are also fast. Quicksaving and saving itself are more convenient. Although I don't use mods because in my (own) experience, the moment those mods get in conflict with the program or the system, the game crashes- sometimes irrevocably. But all things aside GO for the PC! But be careful in using mods. Just a piece of my thoughts...hope it helps. :icecream:

Do it. I don't see any reason not to if you can run a ton of mods.

I say this as someone whose making the transition from 360 to PC, too.

Falskaar, Wyrmstooth, Moonpaths, Helgen Reborn, all that free content before you even get to patches, looks, extra shiny stuff. Don't forget 'the 418th step', or 'the 418th step- snow version'.

Falskaar = :yuck:

That is M'aiq's opinion.

The rest you mentioned, M'aiq absolutely loved, especially Moonpath to Elsweyr.

It will make your game less boring with mods and make your game life less stressful with unofficial patch.

You definitely should try it of you have a decent game PC.
