a very controversial, but popular, topic

One of my favorite mods for morrowind and oblivion is the "better bodies" mod (THIS IS NOT A THREAD ABOUT THE BETTER BODIES MOD). Most of you who use mods probably know of it. What it does is get rid of the glued on underwear and when you take everything, you take EVERYTHING. Revealing otherwise revealed "mature" parts. I would like this added to the game with a default setting being the cloths stay on. It shouldn't be a problem if "underwear" is an option to take or leave when looting. Personally I enjoyed streaking in morrowind. Made the comments all the more funny. What say y'all?

The option should be for equipable/unequipable underwear on the option menu. Even if turned on you would still have the option of actually taking the knickers.
That way you can make it "appropriate" when necessary.

Highlighted points

quote LostInSpace
*shrug* I do agree that it's not a *huge* problem, and that Bethesda will probably go the safe route to avoid idiot clamoring around their products - who could blame them to want to avoid that outcry.

Still, it is sad. What's problematic with nudity ? As Unclellama rightfully pointed out, we can blow up villages in games, but a micrometre of bare skin, oh my... How odd is that. Anyway, I do use the Better Bodies naked mod. I wanted better shaped bodies, and why not remove those illogical underwears all the same ? It's a detail, but it feels more right. Like having windows you could actually see through. Or scabbards to your swords.

Anyway, mods while being awesome, aren't a systematic answer for everything, not even for background things. Having uncanny NPCs face did not prevent us to play Oblivion ; it's sort of minor : what would you think if Bethesda, instead of working on implementing better faces in Skyrim, told us to "go get mods" ?

It's a point worth discussing, I reckon. Again, to quote Unclellama, sure Bethesda would get a lot of heat, but games and movies could make bit by bit a difference, in a natural, neither prude nor obscene, view of nudity. :)

quote Unclellama
I think that you could argue that the *primary* purpose of Better Bodies was to make bodies look better :-)

It was available both in nvde and non-nvde versions.

What I would like is undergarments as a seperate object. nvde mods are all very well, but it seems wierd that you end up stripping down all the bandits just to loot their armour.

Plus, there's lots of potential in a snowy environment for catching a cold (that drains stamina or something) if not equipped with wooly underwear. And possibly a 'naked Nord' perk that prevents this need.

As for nudity in general: sure, there are a lot of reasons not to have it in the vanilla game, but none of those reasons have to do with the game itself... In game, not being able to take off your clothes is just an arbitrary restriction.

I don't expect it to be possible to take off your clothes in Skyrim, and don't care that much either way, but I would be pleasantly surprised if it is possible. There are lots of good roleplaying reasons for taking one's clothes off - for example, research shows that it heightens the sanitary value of having a bath.

quote Sshodan
While a body replacement, and a nvde one at that is close to the first mod that I will be installing, I don't think that it would be a default option - even Better Bodies had a permanent underwear version for thous who wanted it :) Having removable underwear can be realistic, and hilarious in some cases (how about putting some enchantment on your knickers? :D), but with the amount of complaining and whining it will arise in the community it may be not the best move to make it a default setting...
But I see a problem for console players... So maybe an optional feature?

quote Rezro Variant
Of course you should be able to be completely 'nvde' in Skyrim. People always suggest modifications will add 'nudity' so it doesn't matter anyway or it shouldn't be added because it can be added for those that want it on the PC through modifications, but not everyone will be able to get the PC version. The largest audience of people are still buying The Elder Scrolls for the consoles. Besides, those modifications made by people wouldn't be considered canon. It would be nice to see the ones behind the game designing the 'nudity.'

Since for some reason it's still an issue for people, there should be an option in the menu to turn on and off all 'nudity.' It could be defaulted as turning all 'nudity' off, and would make it exactly like Oblivion where the underwear/bra cannot be taken off and also for people being looted it would not remove their underwear/bra. Additionally, if there is a mission like in Oblivion where your character is supposed to be 'nvde' (the mission where you get your clothes removed in the Mage's dream world) it would enact it like Oblivion where everything but the underwear/bra is removed...

quote mumatil
I would like better textures and different underwear. Wierd how everyone wears a loin cloth under their clothes wether their wearing silk or raggs.

Nudity? Not needed for the game and would only lead toward angry dumb parents(who should actually start parenting) causing problems and less sales for Beth due to countries with stricter maturity ratings.

Poor India and Austrailia....

quote Madaras Zore
As previously mentioned (not by me) underwear is important in keeping your valuables warm. (so you don't lose em) Someone could strip you for any number of reasons, maybe you aren't wearing underwear under your pants! that 1 pound encumbrance you found unnecessary so you got rid of them, or maybe you have a phobia. Any number of ways you can look at it. Even you just meet up with some cruel bandits who's friend you left to die naked in the mountains! So many possibilities especially now in gaming.

quote Madaras Zore
I find boobs tasteless, and mainly enjoyed by the....well people like you. No offense. Maybe it's because I'm ex-military as to why I don't have a strong, gross, reaction. It's just normal. I think the girls should have underwear as well, and we "could" choose to undress those we kill as much as any guy character....necromancy would be a bit creepier that way, but hey it's your necro-harem if you want it :shakehead:

quote Madaras Zore
Good point!(:P) Speaking of necro-harems if you happen to have one I'm sure you'd be very unpopular and you might have family members of those dead try and kill you, the guards won't like it either, not to mention you'd have many people who just object to you having undead wenches living in your mansion, however you might be able to develop a cult of followers. (A bit of radiant AI role playing aspect of the game)

What does this have to do with BB? I also don't see how they could implement any sort of mod that improves body textures either. Basically all you are asking for are decent body textures here, which isn't controversial at all, and then for some reason bring up nudity.

dude, this is the elder scrolls, a mature fantasy rpg. Mature doesn't mean you should streak, nor should such a thing be part of the game. I mean, cmon how old are you? Grow up, for pete's sake...

I don't care, but nudity hurts the game's image (even though we can argue about how appropriate it is until the cows come home). I would rather TES went for underwear so that BGS doesn't have to worry about the stupid Australian controversy.

The betterbodies mod, let me recheck to see if the name is right...it is. It's primary purpose (as far as I can tell) was to be able to add nudity, so it is very related and is controversial.

Agreed. It can be argued either which way, but I'd rather have the game released everywhere, and without that kind of controversy  If you're on a PC, you can just download another mod to do it - doubtless there will be one made.

I don't care that much really, but that comes off as puerile more than mature, tbh. Not what I'd normally expect to find on a TES games.

It's not a childish thing (and I believe my age is on my profile, if not then it's 22) I know I'm not the only one who found it annoying that underwear was attached to your skin. It just makes no sense. (BTW you should try to make more mature comments then trying to insult someone by their age, the mods seem to not like that)

Dead Wrong

The Better Bodies mod was to introduce just that: Better Bodies, with more realistic proportions, higher poly models, and skin deform rather than the ugly, seamed modular bodies of the vanilla game. There were nvde and non-nvde options, so you could have better bodies with the default underware, or without if that was what you wnted (but that was not the point of the mod).

This is what its primary purpose was. They offered a version that included nudity, but it was mainly intended to do that in the link. And "nudity" is not synonymous at all with "better bodies".
But come on, why the crap would you name a nudie mod "Better Bodies"?

Not something I worry too much about, but yeah, it's true the comments were funnier.

The only real snag I find with permaglued underwear, was the Solstheim Berserkers. I mean... It was just bizarre. I would have gone more for naked, or wearing tatters.

If I'm "dead wrong" as you say, then why was their a "nvde or non-nvde, or only naked women" options. Apparently it was important for the creator to add them. So I would hardly dismiss that as being one of the main objectives.

Actually, the primary purpose of Better Bodies is, as its name implies, to improve the quality of the in-game body models, by replacing the original segmented bodies which Morrowind used with ones that lack visible segments and as a whole look more realistic. The nudity is not its main function, which is why, when you install it, you'll be asked if you want to install the nvde or underwear versions. Obviously, those who created the mod wanted to include the option to have nudity in the game, maybe it's even the option they'd personally recommend, or maybe not, I've never felt the need to try to find out, but had it been the only purpose of the mod, I don't think the option would have been there at all.

As far as seeing nudity as an option available by default in Skyrim, I highly doubt it will happen, because, at least in America, where Bethesda is based, there are those who would certainly raise controvercy if nudity were included in the game, now, how other countries would react depends on the general public's own view on the matter, but at least in the US, it's like that. Now, there have been some games which have included some level of nudity in the past, of course, but they are not all that common, and as a whole, the American public seems much more willing to accept graphic violence in video games than explicit nudity, so I'd imagine Bethesda will want to leave this out. As much as I don't like using the "It can be modded" argument, in this case, I think those who want to see this will simply need to wait for a mod, or make it themselves if they have the tools and skills to do so.

I don't understand why its a problem, why are you taking your characters clothes off? I'd assume 98% of the time that mod is used by people wwwaaaayyy under the age to watch porm (well... buy) so look at naked girls, even if it is just in a videogame. I don't really care if these kids want to see naked girls all over the place, but it doesn't seem to need to be there. It would cause a HUGE amount of uproar not only for australia but also in the states (where nudity and sixuality are worse than violence and profanity for some reason).

It could cause the game to not be sold in australia, it could stop stores from carrying it in the states thanks to AO rating, and for what? If its THAT much of an issue, buy a pc and DL the mod... then you can oogle furry kajjit boobs all day.

Well you obviously assume too much. I for one would never take a womans cloths off, I'm quite the prude. For me it was all about how my character RPed, and it was much fun.

I was actually upset that better bodies let you install (nvde/non-nvde/only naked women, but not only naked men...quite upsetting I couldn't take any pants a women carried)

I think the option for no underwear would hurt Skyrim's reception among the general public and give it a lot of bad press. People tend to overreact on this kind of issue.

Personally, I wouldn't mind if it was in, but if it's gonna make Bethesda lose revenue, leave it out.

No, I don't like having nvde people in my game. If I want nudity I'll find a mod for it.

Also, Better Bodies was not primarily made to have nudity in their game, it was made as an improved replacement for crappy bodies in the vanilla version. It had both nvde and underwear variants.

I want Lady gaga doing the title song. At least as a toggleable option, right under nudity, fast travel and level scaling.

They sort of had it in Arena/Daggerfall. Maybe upper bodies but no genitalia please. It's not necessary and just gives the game a bad image among parents (not that I care, but Bethe$da likes money).

I don't mind having the option for nudity either. But I can clearly see it provoking childish (even from 22 years old people) and hysterical reactions. It's better left out while the majority of society is not able to handle it with a mature attitude.
