Very happy with the engine

Post » Wed Mar 09, 2011 3:53 am

I'm insanely happy with the quality of the faces! Facial features can either turn me too or away from a game. I understand Oblivion was a few years ago but Fallout 3 was the same tIke and the faces in Oblivion were TERRIBLE! This game is looking up and the norms don't look very long faced as they used to which I'm liking alot? Do you like the way these human features are going? Also, is this a new engine?

Sooo totally psyched for this game!

Yes, the game is a new engine, based off the old. Yes, the faces look good.

I just hope it doesn't suffer from the same limitations than the old one, and that all the bugs have been erased for good.

Actually, I thought Oblivion was pretty sweet in graphic compared to ..... MoronWind.
You only had few faces per race, and all of them looked ugly.
If they offered some cute looking faces in game, I might have played it more than few hours....Which they didn't.
Anyways, I'm looking forward to make some real cuties to play in Skyrim.

It'll be hard to judge until the game is in our hands in November - but there is not much of a chance of every bug being erased for good. New engine, new problems. I've always been satisfied with TES and Fallout's engine, I never experienced the game crippling "game breaker" bugs that people complain about.

Did you ever try playing Morrowind, or did you quit off the bat because you couldn't create a "cutie?"

Yeah, they seem to have dropped the FaceGen software that made the faces in Oblivion.

no cloth physics, refractions look bad, dont think there is volumetric lighting, not sure if interiors could have outside weather effect them....

oh, and they arent taking to much advantage of the nice animation system they are using, surely they should try to make acrobatics and hand to hand look awesome.

but otherwise, i agree. there is dx11, and awesome draw distances.

Let the game make it out of the gate before breaking it down like that, or you'll only be disappointed.

Agree'd too many people berate it before they embrace it. My pc is low end anyway haha. I just thought the faces were lacking compared to what the could have pulled off in that time

Are you talking about dynamic interior lighting based on external light sources in separate cells? I'm unaware of a game that has this, esp on consoles

It's much more noticing in the PC version, especially the engine limitations.

And as for bugs, for Oblivion to have 166 mb's of unofficial patches...I'd say it has quite a few.

Yes, it's a new engine. Yes, the faces look good.

But the engine does not make the faces. All it is is a general object, lighting and texture renderer.

Be careful with such words around here; there are many that are loyal to Morrowind. You do realize Morrowind was released in 2002? Those graphics were good for the time.

I bet you also have characters run around in thong armour that can do that crazy [censored] out of anime.

But yeah, back on topic, I can wait to see what the community can do with the DX11 so people with higher end systems can have the game look even better than it looks now.

I wouldn't be too worried about anyone taking his insults seriously. It is clear the only game he plays is Loli Waifu Simulator IV: Oblivion

The engine looks good I'm quite happy with how it is right now. Although I'll wait for more video of Gameplay before I make final conclusions about the Engine.

I'm very happy that Bethesda has decided to create the own engine, even though we all know it's basically just their old Gamebryo engine, but very very updated with mostly every major feature rewritten.

NIF format, I'm not a developer so I'm not sure if that's a bad or a good mesh format compared to other mesh formats other games have, so I can't say anything about it.

Lighting, I'm not happy. They could have improved this a thousand times more. Look at how many features other games have concerning lighting and how much better it looks. This is the one thing I'm disappointed about. So if we're talking about graphics (in this case the major feature lighting), it's not definitely not as fantastic as I imagined it to be, when we at first heard Pete or whoever it was say something like"Skyrim's engine is all new and it looks fantastic!".

Yeah, they seem to have dropped the FaceGen software that made the faces in Oblivion.

To me it seems like they just tweaked FaceGen more and gotten rid of many of the sliders so the face can't be ruined, not dropping it.

You do realize Morrowind was released in 2002? Those graphics were good for the time.

The faces weren't good for it's time, the game got a bunch of complaints for that back when the game was new too, and the Rhedd's Heads mod for Morrowind was an instant huge success and even though they used less polygons than the original heads they looked much better. The rest of the graphics in Morrowind were all marvelous though, especially the night sky which I think remained as the prettiest ingame sky for several years.
