VERY high hopes for brink

Post » Sun Oct 17, 2010 5:10 pm

theres only a 5% chance you will get the 1 sec respawn. sorry for my concerns guys. i mean , this game is my only hope. i want a good and fun game before fall 2011.

There's also only a 5% chance of getting a 20 second respawn, and there's a 50% chance of getting a spawn that is 10 seconds or under. :)

...In all likelihood it will fall short in some areas though, as we as a community are holding it up to almost impossibly high standards. That being said I'm still fairly confident that it will blow most, if not all other modern fps' out of the water..

Hell, it would be a damn miracle if it lived up to all our expectations. They are, after all, impossibly high. I also think it will be a great game, though, even if/when it does fall short in some areas.

The respawn timer may be longer, but think about; you'll die less so it won't be that much of a pain. If, say, CoD had a 20 second respawn timer, that would be terrible. You would wait 20 secs to respawn, then get OHKOd by a sniper or mowed down by an SMG the second you spawn. In brink you always have a chance to fight back and keep living.

hey guys. i currently have no fps atm other than black ops, which is painful to play. like ive previously stated, brink is the only good looking fps coming out until the huge fall of 2011 that will include uncharted3( my 2011 GOTY) resistance 3, battlefield 3, and yes unfortunatley mw3.

im counting on SD to deliver a quality shooter unlike anything we have ever seen before. i really dont want to wait for fall to hit before i can buy another quality game. i mean, if brink flops, i will just buy la noire, which looks kool. team bondai/rockstar were stupid and felt multiplayer wouldnt be neccesary so i doubt ill be holding onto that game for more than a few weeks.

my gut feeling is telling me its not going to be as good as we expect. New IPs usually dont do so well in the very competitive fps market. i hope to God i am completely wrong. but sadly, my interest in the game is declining. i want a fun, action paced game, but i do think the 20 sec respawn timer will kill any hopes of that. 10 sec would be perfect IMO. anyways, good luck SD. i hear you have a good background, and i hope brink is the game we all expect it to be. just a few things taht are scaring me right now. must be tough to be a dev these days.....

Okay, take a deep breath, lol.

Okay, each game (even sequels) is an investment in which you take a risk. Just like everything in life, sometimes those
investments may disappoint you while others may meet some or most of your expectations. But, be reasonable or realistic with your
expectations. Not every game is going to meet your highest expectations, and that's just life, ya know?
You either trust /don't trust your instincts and take the plunge and accept whatever comes or just wait for the right time or
just don't jump at all, lol.

Just keep informed, watch gameplay videos, read/watch dev interviews, keep aware of other people's reactions, and
keep reasonable/rational expectations and make your decisions from there. :)

I would even recommend playing SD's previous games, one of which is free and still have an active online community (W: ET)
to help with your decisions. ^_^

OT: Not every game needs multiplayer. There are many good single-player games out there in which multiplayer could ruin the experience. I
wouldn't want anyone else in my epic Elder Scrolls adventure that features MY character as the lone hero, lol.

You should play some Wolfenstein:Enemy Territory or the Quake Wars demo , you'll see that the spawn timer is nothing to worry about !

Bioshock 2 and Crysis 2 fit this description. You can throw Dead Space 2 in there as well.

Here are some answers to your problem:

A -- Deal with it, it's no time at all
B -- Don't die
C -- Be a Medic
D -- Actually work as a team like you're supposed to, and there'll be a Medic at your back to get you up again.

Well I wouldn't be averse to having coop. However the logical choice after Mass Effect 3 is MMORPG.

Yeah I suppose that would be good, Split-Screen would be pretty nice too.

My two step plan for avoiding long respawn times in Brink:
Step One: Don't die.
Step Two: If you die, die quickly.

Problem solved! :celebration:

Well I think more the fact that the earth is overrun with Reapers and Shepard despite being Shepard can't do it alone. Bet he does it faster than the Quarians.

OMG, thank goodness, lol! That's one of the reasons why I couldn't upgrade / save the world as well as I would like to: because I didn't
mine /scan for elements stuff.
Co-op in Mass Effect universe could be fun and cool.

On-Topic: Let's wait and see how the game is before denouncing the wave time. It might be shorter than you think. And, like the others said,
try out SD's other games to see if their respawn times and gameplay are any good. If it really, really bothers you, to repeat others, try
a Medic class or try to stay near a (good) Medic or a friend who happens to be a Medic. ^_^

The spawn time/technique has already proven to work perfectly fine in not 1, not 2, but 3 different games already - Return to Castle Wolfenstien, Wolfenstien: Enemy Territory and Quake Wars. This goes for pubs and competitive games. And all these ames follow the same class-based, team objective gameplay that Brink is based around. Why are people still worried about it?

Since they haven't played/ heard of it before. It like the objective driven gameplay obiviously has worked in the past.

I actually didn't hate the mining... :spotted owl:
they just seriously overdid it with the number of planets you had to mine. It was still better than the mako though.. ugh, the reapers will be the least of our problems if they bring that back..

I really don't get why everyone is hating on the respawn wave, it's not like that's how long you'll wait everytime. Once you get incapacitated all you have to do is look up, check the time and decide whether or not you want to hold out. If there are 20 seconds left on the timer, just hold tight and wait for a medic. If there are less than 10 seconds, bleed out and join the respawn. I don't get what the big deal is at all

They hate on it because almost no other game has an automatic respawn wave. The only game I can think of that has a set respawn is Battlefield, and both Brink and Battlefield have it because they don't want people just LMG/Heavy Rushing an area instantly respawning and causing hell for players.

I think the fact of the matter is that people see '20 second respawn waves' and immediately think; "I have to wait 20 seconds to respawn??? OMG that svcks!!!!!" When in reality that's just not true, and having to wait longer than 10 seconds will be extremely rare.
