I'm Very Scared

In England Judges are high ranking members of the Church? :)
News to me.

Usually you only call "Your Worship" to people in the church.
Like "Your Holiness" is the Pope.

Someone once explained to me that it's a shortened version of "Worthship," and it's standard for many civil officials, having nothing to do with the church. Pretty sure it's the same in Canada.

I just thought it was weird they called them that.

Hello everyone, I am back. I had to take a few minutes to give my mom a heart attack at work with the following exchange:

Me: Man! I have to pay $600 and they suspended my license for three months!
Mom: I can't believe that! Why?
Me: They said it's a serious offense. I'm about to cry.
Mom: I'm sorry baby I was hoping you were kidding
Me: Haha
Mom: Jerk
Me: Haha, why?
Mom: What did they say?
Me: [I'll clarify below]
Mom: You better buy me pastry to help me relieve all the stress you caused me.

(My mom, for whatever reason, only refers to pastries in the singular and without a definite article.)

So yeah, I showed up on time and well dressed. The cases that were being heard were from jail; they were people who didn't appear for their earlier trial and were arrested. I pleaded 'No contest' and after an hour and a half, I was called up. Right before me was a young man who the judge had a huge tirade over because he was wearing a Cartman shirt that said 'Respect Mah Authoritah,' so the timid person afterward came as a relief, I suppose.

All-in-all, the hearing took thirty seconds. The judge let me know that I had pleaded with no contest and asked if I had anything to say, I said that I had my license and he smiled and said, "Oh! So you're legal now!"

"I sure am, sir!" I replied.

"That's good. Anything else to say?"

"I got caught. I shouldn't have done that, your Honor."

"Well it happens. Tell you what; I'm cutting your fine in half because you made reparations! You need to pay $50 instead of $100, and with surcharges, you'll be paying $88.50. Sound good to you?"

I answered in the affirmative and went on to pay my fine. Then I promptly drove home because one of the guys who was heard before me was charged $150 for having a tail light out (granted, it could've been two and he said it incorrectly or I misheard him, but I want to be safe).

Thanks guys. I'm glad it went well. I am a free person now!

They can be, yes, but you'd use "my lord" for those.

Mom: You better buy me pastry to help me relieve all the stress you caused me.

:slap: You nearly gave me a heart attack, and I don't even know you!

Its good that it worked out though.

A traffic violation? You're getting all worked up over a traffic violation? The way you started off I thought you ran over somebody's kid or something.

Things I would have thought but not said:
  • Instead of 'no contest' I slap them with the gauntlet and formally challenge them to a duel
  • 90 dollars! Thats like 2 video games.
  • I respect that guy's authorotai

But its good to hear it worked out.

I'm glad it went well too -- sounds like you got a good judge.

Also, I like your mom. Pastry is often my answer for things too

Yeah same here, or you cheated on someone, drove home drunk and ran over a few trees and bumped a cop, someone is stalking you, or...something serious.

Well I am a very law-abiding citizen. The last time I got in trouble with an authority figure besides my parents was back in kindergarten when I accidentally spilled paint on a girl's painting...

Also, I like your mom. Pastry is often my answer for things too
Haha, you guys would only serve to enable each other. My mom's got a sweet tooth. I like to test the limits of her self-discipline by showing her all of the pastries (or pastry) at Kroger's, Publix, and Wal-Mart.

I think I shall ask for a close now, since this has all blown over successfully. Thanks again for calming my nerves, everyone.
