Very upset about this (The Nuclear Option)

Post » Mon Feb 15, 2016 11:14 am

So I am allied with the Railroad and I had to blow up The Prywden. There were children in there, and Emmett the cat. WTF Bethesda?!?! I play computer games to have fun, it's not supposed to be "like real life" [censored].

Man, it really got to me....specially the cat business.

(I heard somewhere that you can send a Minutemen alert to have it evacuated, but not sure how it is done)

The alert is for evacuating the Institute, can't think of any way to do that for the Prydwen.

And keep in mind, had that cat survived, it would have hunted you down and destroyed the Railroad.

What did you think was going to happen when you sided with a bunch of short-sighted fanatics who have no problem with backstabbing their allies and leaving the Commonwealth in chaos just to save some robots?

I don't get this. How does the Railroad leave the Commonwealth in chaos? After their main questline, the Commonwealth is no different than it was when you left the vault - sans the Institute, which was one of the largest sources of chaos in the Commonwealth.

I love how most people complain about the endings are the Railroad. This is like the fifth threads with the exact same topic.

So a handful of settlements under constant threat with the BOS (the major anti Super Mutant, Raiders etc force in the game) no longer actively hunting threats to their existence and with the Institute nuked the most valuable resources in the Commonwealth destroyed......you can mitigate it by building up the Minutemen to at least provide some protection but in the end you leave the Commonwealth in the same chaos you find it, minus the Synth infiltration threat.

Although you will likely have decades of Synths being discovered since they don't age.

You cannot really avoid killing civilians since you have to nuke the Institute or the Prwyden, even with the Institute evacuation you're still killing those that don't escape in time and likely simply ensuring that the rest simply die later as they struggle to survive in the Wasteland.

I hate that too. I eventually ran to Google to find a way to do the MQ that avoided killing one faction to side with another. There a various ways to complete the MQ via the Minutemen that leave you with the three non-Institute factions functioning, happy and all giving you quests at the end.

Edit:

I hated it when the BOS wanted me to do the same thing. Kiling Deacon face-to-face was awful. Hardest thing I've done in the game.

I'm surprised that people are expecting a happy RR ending, although the fact that you actually end up doing the very thing you destroy the BOS for did come as a surprise to me. I expected a take over of the Institute for the RR ending instead its pretty much a carbon copy to the other endings dealing with the Institute.

The people of the Commonwealth are all monster from my point of view. You could find a better plot on a bomb crater than this half fallout game. :verymad:

Choosing an ending because you think it's best is one thing, but I personally don't agree that having more factions = best ending. That's just me though, especially when RR is basically just a dozens people or so left. The Minutemen have its appeal, so I'm not saying that the ending is bad, but I just am not a fan of people pitching it as the "best" ending simply due to having the most factions left. Not you per se, just in general.

I personally like to bring Deacon with me when I kill the RR for the Institute, he was so in disbelief that it's pretty funny, betray by the person he called his only friend. :P

St. Nick is basically a saint, he gets mad if I want to wipe out supermutants and consider it an genocide, and feral ghouls, and robots. He's like a metal Buddha.

I love having all three factions functioning in the gameworld at the same time. There's a lot more going on after the MQ if all three of them have a presence. It's not my favorite questline, the MM is pretty boring, I think the BOS is the most fun, but the post MM gameworld is my favorite.

And Desdemona. I know a lot of people don't like her, but I did, a lot, and having to kill her was really difficult and heart breaking. Now I just don't ever finish the MQ series so I don't have to kill characters I like in both the RR and Institute. Ya, you probably noticed I didn't mention the Bafoons of Steel. They are enemies irregardless of who I ally with.

The thread is kinda gay, not sure why. j/k

I think Desdemona is just rubbing people the wrong way. For me personally, I dislike it's basically it's her way or the highway. You can't join unless you'd die for a synth, force to choose between the Minutemen and the RR because they don't put synths as their top priority but everyone is important, and get all pissy when I don't sound the evacuation to save the synths but perfectly ok with letting the scientists die in there if you don't sound the evacuation. I feel like she puts synth life above human life.

And Tinker Tom :( I almost couldn't do it. I had to take out my earbuds, more or less carpeted the room with fire and walked out as soon as it was done. The RR isn't my favorite faction philosophically, but I do like their hideout and little band of characters.

@Battlebloodmage - You can join the RR without declaring your willingness to die for a Synth. I usually go that route and when you talk to Deacon to do Tradecraft he tells you it's cool to not be willing to die for a synth, etc and sells you on going on the quest with him because succeeding will convince Dez you should be a memeber of RR. I do agree that she seems to value synths, but only some of them, more than people.

I did the same thing, I could only carpet bombed the area from the stairs and then turned around and left, then felt poorly about it for the rest of the play-through. :sadvaultboy:

Well I have to say, what did you think would happen when you joined The Synth Liberation Front?

What, you thought they were the good guys? ;)

You possibly kill children in all endings of the game.

Probably less with other groups since in other endings, only Institute or the BoS children will get blasted,

I can certainly sympathize with folks who are disappointed with the Railroad. They start out kinda noble, if you believe in Synth rights. Then slowly but surely it all changes. By the ending, you find that your part of a group of, ally betraying, mass murdering terrorists.

If you want to be a good guy you should... well... choose any other faction really. If your still dead set on being known as 'Synth Friend' you could do worse than becoming Director of the Institute.

The Railroad is home to the only group of people I like. Everyone there is interesting and memorable whereas Shaun is the only person I remember from the Institute and Danse, Ingram and Maxson (who I despise) are all I remember from the Boy Scouts. So I sided with the RR.

The Prydwen thing got to me because at the end, one of the kids engaged me in conversation then he and his buddies walked off to their beds and went to sleep. I hoped I could tell them to run or put them in a vertibird and fly it away or something but there's nothing there.

Still beats having to destroy the Railroad. No way I can do that.

Perception is different, I guess, I want everyone in the RR to die a painful death since asides from how they're against everything I stand for, Desdemona is a conceited little ...., Ticker Tom acts like a crazy looney, and Drummer Boy keeps following me everywhere, like I'm not here to rob you and this is not a convenience store. Plus, both Institute and BoS have children and innocent people in their base, while the RR are ALL willing participants knowing what risks and join voluntarily, so basically it's just killing people in a war knowingly vs killing innocent people getting caught in the line of fire. I do give Beth credits for writing more characters with personality though, Skyrim characters are so bland, I don't mind killing any of them, most of the time when I receive inheritance, I don't know where the hell it comes from.
