Veteran?

Post » Fri Nov 27, 2015 10:27 am

Ok I keep asking in threads and no one seems to know the answer to I'll start a new thread.

Where is it that we are told that the PC is a veteran? And is there anything else we know other than they are married (or shacking up ... or is marriage confirmed also?) and have a child. What branch of the military? Which war? What front we fought on? Were we even in a combat role? Etc.

Thanks.

There's a wedding ring equipped to the player in the PipBoy... So marriage is pretty much confirmed.

As for all of the veteran stuff... I don't believe we have any background on 111 yet.

I

Yeah, this.

To me it sounds like she says "You're gonna knock em dead at the veterans hall tonight hon."

So, people are just assuming he's a veteran. He could be there selling life insurance as far as we know.

I believe the leaked casting script (which now seems to be all but confirmed legit) says the man at least is or was in the military pre-war.

This along with the veterans meeting being mentioned, plus the US being in a 11 year war with China, the occupation of Canada and the insurrections in the US would make it notable if your character wasn't in the military at some point.

The leaked casting script, plus the E3 presentation where the spouse is talking about how they're going to the veteran's ball.

Your character is / was a soldier.

Ok, I see that line now, thanks!

I'm still trying to believe the leaked stuff didn't happen (or will be changed) so I'm ignoring that stuff. Just wanted to see if there was somewhere else it was mentioned.

But, is that only if you're playing the male character? We didn't get to see anything from the other character's point of view. Is she a veteran as well?

I doubt it will, its most likely a intentional hand wave right at the start to help justify why our characters can have such good gun handling right of the bat. Never or rarely ever brought up again.

Well according to the leaked info, which is pretty much confirmed at this point because everything it's said has been correct, including the way the default protagonist looks, it plays a major role in at least the tutorial, where you go to some sort of veteran's ball and talk about how horrible war is. You even say the infamous "war, war never changes" line. Twice, and talk about how you're concerned for your family since the world is teetering on the brink of collapse.

I wouldn't be surprised if your time in the military is at least mentioned later on in some capacity.

Yeah, I'm not really paying attention to the leak either. It seems too convenient. I mean no one ever releases disinformation when trying to keep secrets, right?

Well, to be fair, literally everything about that leak turned out to be true so far. At this point it's pretty much confirmed that it's real. They even reference the veteran's ball the character is going to in the E3 presentation.

well then the whole tutorial is a hand wave, its most likely still be a hand wave to justify your characters weapon handling, however big it is.

Well perhaps we're are frozen, put to sleep, whatever, and are brought back by the dwellers in 111 because they know that we have a vet record and they need that kind of expertise.

Kind of like Demolition Man: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0106697/?ref_=nm_flmg_act_36

Except again I'm pretty positive it's gonna be brought up again, just like your family will. There's no way they developed this entire backstory, military history, and family for this guy just to immediately make it all irrelevant, and if they did that would be one of the most hilarious examples of terrible writing I've ever seen in a video game.

I would laugh my ass off if 111 started knitting if you left him/her standing around too long.

I'm not sure if this is relevant but did anyone notice the triangle folded flag in a case on the bookshelf during the opening few minutes? Obviously a triangle folded flag is usually given to the next of kin of the deceased military individual but it might have some relevance.

Saw it, definitely curious of the backstory as to who it is from. Hope we can learn it by reading a plaque or something.

If that's the case that it would seem our player's backstory is even more expansive than we originally thought.

Well, I've got one on my bookcase and I'm not dead. But it is possible. I totally missed that though.

Highly unlikely. First because he's the main character and asskickings need proper training. Second, notice that not long into the game he starts operating a power armor and I guess he's the one going to operate the armor because he has the required know-how. Might be speculation, but it's based on the obvious.

Yes, based on the obvious from what we've seen in a trailer, and if the trailer was 100% of the game it would be a great guess. Do you know for a fact we will arrive at that point in the game not long after we start? Or could it possibly be 2 or 3 hours (or more) into the game?
