Vicious CTD

Post » Tue Jun 22, 2010 7:39 am

On launch:

Fresh install:AppName: oblivion.exe AppVer: 0.1.0.228 ModName: oblivion.exeModVer: 0.1.0.228 Offset: 000912a6Shivering Isles, and WEocps:AppName: oblivion.exe AppVer: 1.2.0.416 ModName: oblivion.exeModVer: 1.2.0.416 Offset: 00098749

Before I even get to the loading screen/logos. It appears as the small window in the upper left, sometimes it crashes there, sometimes the small window turns white, but it always crashes before it reaches full screen.

Dunno if anyone's still working on killing these, but it'd be nice if they would. I am using a different computer now, and I'd like to play my favorite game.

Any advice/questions?

Mod list?
Do you use WryeBash? If so it's easy to check if your crash is due to missing master(s) which is the usual cause of crash at launch.

Well my modlist at fresh install is:
Oblivion.esm
My modlist for the second one is:

Active Mod Files:
00 Oblivion.esm
01 DLCHorseArmor.esp
02 DLCOrrery.esp
03 DLCFrostcrag.esp
04 DLCThievesDen.esp
05 DLCVileLair.esp
06 DLCMehrunesRazor.esp
07 DLCSpellTomes.esp
08 Knights.esp
09 DLCShiveringIsles.esp

Woops I guess Knights of the Nine was installed too. Sorry, should have mentioned that.

And yes I use WryeBash. It's the best.

Edit: Just in case it wasn't evident, my problem is not yet solved.

couple things to try:
1. restart your computer (yes seems funny but when oblivion crashes it may 'lock' files and repeatly crash)
2. delete your oblivion.ini from mydocuments/my games/oblivion.
3. if not better repost

Just checking, but you did delete the Oblivion.ini as suggested above? And follow the other suggestions? Just not quite clear from your post.

If you have done all that, I suggest reinstalling Oblivion. If you're getting vanilla crashes, it's not a mod problem.

Well, I would take it to hardware forums, as it seems clearly not to be related to mods.

Well, I didn't bring it here expecting the culprit to be a mod, hence my pointing out the first CTD as a fresh install, but because I was wondering if anyone was still working on a CTD work around. Which were previously considered mods, making this the correct forum.

I'm sorry. I get it now.

Your answer is that you can try http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=23208 (Oblivion Stutter Remover). However, I doubt it will solve your problem. But, it does solve lots of problems, so it's probably worth a shot.

Thanks, unfortunately it didn't help. Oh well. I do love OSR though. I think I'm going to give up for now with this computer. But I'll see how I feel about it in the morning. Thanks again for your help guys.

Excuse me, but is this your real load order?
can you post your LO as it is from Wrye Bash or OBMM?
Sounds to me your Oblivion.esm is not your first esm as it should be and this could explain your problems.
Can you try your game with all mods disabled? with only Oblivion.esm active?

Actually, yes, that is my real load order, the first one, which has only Oblivion.esm is a fresh install. And the second one is posted from Wrye Bash. I know how important it is to be honest if you want your problem solved.

When you uninstalled the game, did you delete the install folder, and the one in My Games? Oblivion really doesn't clean up after itself very well. (if at all....)

Also, try moving Shivering Isles.esp to right under oblivion.

I did use a clean install folder, but I did only delete the config from my documents. I'll do that now, after I try just moving Shivering Isles first.

Edit: Alright, done, truely clean fresh install resulted in the first CTD listed above. After I installed just Shivering Isles (I made sure not to install Knights of the Nine this time, so it's really just Shivering Isles and Oblivion.exe) and I got this new one:

AppName: oblivion.exe AppVer: 1.2.0.201 ModName: oblivion.exe
ModVer: 1.2.0.201 Offset: 000989f9

That little window flashing on the left sounds like obse_loader.exe. So you are using Obse, right?

Well, you need to patch your game to a correct version:

OBSE does not work with:
Oblivion 1.2.0.214 This was the official downloadable 1.2 patch. (as of v0017)
Oblivion 1.2.0.410: the Shivering Isles beta patch.
Oblivion 1.2.0.201: the Shivering Isles DVD build.
Oblivion 1.1.0.511 This was the original Oblivion that OBSE supported. (as of v0017)
Oblivion 1.0: the original DVD build of Oblivion.

Download the 1.2.0.416 patch, the most recent one. :)
