Victim of a bad bad joke, plz help

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 6:13 pm

Please don't laugh, but obviously I became the victim of a very bad prank. I recently downloaded one of Conarry's texture replacers from a site I found on the internet. Might have been russian, can't say for sure. It appeared to be a huge compilation of all kind of textures. So I did overwrite my texture folder with that, like I was told by some modder and now almost all of my NPCs look like this:

I tried to find this texture in my texture folder, but there are simply to many of them. It would take me a lifetime to do that. :( Any ideas?

you could install a head pack over it like http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=6173

Try some pluginless replacer like Vvardenfell Visages.

As far as I know, Connary has never released a NPC Head replacer... so please don't blame him by accident.

Check the http://www.gamesas.com/?showtopic=994490&hl= to find a suitable mod for NPC faces.

you could install a head pack over it like http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=6173

This mod doesn't alter NPCs ;)

The MHPX will not solve this issue (at least not yet as it is not a replacer, just a player head addition pack ATM); However, another Head Replacer (such as Better Heads, Tarnsman's big mod [the name escapes me right now], or perhaps a pluginless like Vvardenfall Visages would be of help). I can't click on the link, so I am unsure of your actual issue (something at Imageshack does not like me of late, as I get adware and malware prompts [Like AV8...gaah]).

Yes - check the meshes! Open a head mesh in NifSkope and see which textures are related to it.

If they look like that, then it really is a prank. If they look fine, then it's just a case of bad UV mapping or something like that. Maybe there were textures included that were supposed to go on the vanilla head mesh, but since you're using Rhedd's head mesh, the UV mapping doesn't fit any more. Or something like that.
In any case, THOSE are the textures you want to get rid of.

Are you sure the pack you installed contained nothing but textures? No meshes at all?

Why do you accuse me of blaming Connary, I never said anything negative about him, so no reason to be that rude. Just wondering how that texture might have come in there

well that's what i get for not actually playing or setting up a game in 8 months, was the Tarnsman's big mod http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=6162? Never ran in to that one my self.

I think Westly did some pluginless head replacers too in one of the threads here... you should use those, they are way better than connary's heads from the look of that screenshot...

Connary doesn't do heads. Wherever that was from, it wasn't Connary.

Ja. Read the posts Chainy.

Smurfberry, I don't think the texturepack you downloaded was a prank - just a case of headmeshes getting mixed up and pointing to the wrong textures
If the pluginless replacers others have linked don't work, then you might have to start unchecking any esp's you downloaded with the megamod - but fingercrossed something like Vvardenfell Visages should do the trick :)

Geez, are you guys always this much fun? Seeing as the screenshot is a picture of a GIANT TIT, I might've detected a note of sarcasm in my post there...

Rule of thumb #1: Don't download mods or anything from a site you've never heard of or don't trust. Unless it comes from a trusted modder, I only download mods from tesnexus, planetelderscrolls, elricm or the modder's official site.

Also don't let one bad experience that isn't reflective of the modding community as a whole detract you from using texture replacers. You might want to take a look at http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1164440-relz-morrowind-overhaul-sounds-graphics/ as it should have everything you want to make Morrowind beautified (and I promise its legit). I'd just do a backup of your save games, uninstall Morrowind, delete the install directory and reinstall it with the Morrowind Overhaul.

Any meshes or textures that overwrite the default heads should be in the "B" folders. Clear those out and you should have all of the loveable default heads back. As was stated before: don't download from sites you don't know.

And make a backup of your Morrowind's Data Files, and why not a new installation of Morrowind : special testing mods?

I wasn't being rude at all, it was just meant as a clarification. because you said:
I recently downloaded one of Conarry's texture replacers from a site I found on the internet.

So I just didn't want you to think that it was a Connary file that was problematic, because his work is great, and I wouldn't want you to doubt his stuff in the future. :)

(I don't even see how my original sentence could be mistaken as rude. I specifically said "by accident" for a reason.)

By the way Smurfberry, I just realized you can easily get rid of all files added by that mod using Wrye Mash.

Add a new http://wryemusings.com/Wrye+Mash.html#ManageTextureReplacers containing all the files used by the mod, and then open Wrye Mash, enable the replacer, wait for the files to be copied, and then disable it.

This obviously won't get back any old files you may have overwritten when installing the mod, but it'll at lest get rid of the flawed ones and may be easier than deleting the files manually.

Sorry to read that Smurfberry. It seems lately than my modding nick its related to some freak things. I tried to delete my packs for mass downloaders but there are floating a lot of remains. Perhaps they aren't secure anymore, victims for angry people. Its a pity you get problems like this trying to play a game.

A quick way to delete the textures and meshes can be a easy way, reinstall the mod overwriting the textures, then without uncheck the references (they stay active until you click in the window) select delete option. Make sure the references are still active with the blue mark. Then do the same with meshes.

Thx again guys, but I got very angry meanwhile and completely reinstalled the game. I will start a new character now and get my mods from trustworthy sites only.
