Video Card/PC Problem, wondering if anyone knows this Answer

Post » Tue Dec 14, 2010 10:25 pm

I've only had this issue once before with Bad Company 2 and after a few patches it fixed the problem, i no longer have this issue with ANY game.

Quad Core 2.4MHZ
3MB RAM
512K 250 SLI NVIDIA Card
etc. etc.

When playing Crysis 2 my Video Card or my CPU starts to go crazy. Its actually progressive and its almost like its about the blow. A high pitch sound that just gets higher and higher and higher till the game crashes. This happens on every graphical setting. The game runs very very smooth on "Very High" settings. Its not choppy at all. Its just this problem that eventually crashes my game and sometimes i have to reboot the computer manually.

THIS does not happen in Multiplayer, but then again i don't trust it since some people on here have claimed their Video Cards are no more.

Has anyone encountered this problem? If so i hope for a answer, because i'm aftraid to blow my pc or something. VERY sad that a game is capable of doing such a thing.

Thanks for any Help,

Khalladorne

Sorry 3GB of ram lol...tired.

Nothing else, i mean nothing else on this machine even remotely causes this progressive high pitched reving.

Only Bad Company 2 did, until i suppose a patch fixed it, the only possibility, it no longer does it and doesn't even come close to making the sound anymore.

I was thinking it was my low RAM of only 3GB. Since Crysis 2 uses 2GB of ram to run, weird thing is, is that the game runs smooth with no problems.

Have you got vsync on or off? The caps in peoples PSUs, video cards and motherboards can squeal like that when unrestricted by no vsync.

If you are experiencing a high pitch whining sound from your computer when you are doing something incentive that means your computer has an electrical problem. if it is your PSU replace it immediately! im am not 100% sure the cause of it but it means there is a serious defect in the unit and can cause a fire. if it is your GPU it is the same thing except it wont cause a fire, your GPU will just die. you are experiencing problems with the circuitry. generally means there is a short somewhere.

when circuits go bad the first thing you hear is a high pitch whine. finding what component causes lots of troubleshooting in some cases.

Some Brands of power supplies have this problem with later model Gigabyte motherboards when the system is loaded. If you check the Net you will find which brands cause problems with later model Gigabyte motherboards. Their is a heap of info on "Gigabyte motherboard squeeling" on the Net.

One thing I always do is get a VERY high quality power supply for my Gaming PC.

Last thing I want is for a Power supply to fail and kill the whole system.

Could be a failing PSU, what is the spec of your PSU? Could be your CPU cooler mechanically failing and not cooling your CPU properly, what are you system temps like?

Like others have said it could be your PSU telling you that it is on its way out.

Another possibility is that the circuits in your wall are old or faulty thus sending a dirty signal to your PSU and thus producing coil whine. The simplest solution is to purchase a Power conditioner. It took me about 2 years to figure out that it wasn't my PSUs themselves causing the noise. Both of my Seasonic PSU's had this issue and so does my current Antec PSU. When i purchased a power conditioner for my guitar amps i decided to plug my computer into it as well and all the weird electrical noises my PC's were making vanished. When i plug directly into the wall sockets the noises come back.

Your best bet is to purchase a high-end PSU and a decent power condtioner by a company like Furman or Tripp-Lite.
