Red dead certainly deserves a shot at GOTY. If Mass Effect 2 was not released this year then Red Dead Redemption would win. Red Dead has marvelous writing and there is no other video game with an ending like it. There is a reason that westerns used to be so popular, it has taken red dead to get that genre successfully to the video game scene.



That is why they have so many categories. Then they choose which one is the most astoundingly greatest in that category and make it the game of the year, or something like that.

Black ops should not be up there IMO. I love it and played it to bits but DAMN did it get boring fast. The story is great, reminiscent of Shutter Island, and the online is terrific. The game is just not an improvement enough to be GOTY.

I'm not entirely sure that Mass Effect 2 will when, then again I also think they have God of War 3 as well.

Hallo thar everyone from the Official TES V Speculation Thread!

I am very hopeful that we will see TES V there, or at least some news from Bethesda there. If not I will still enjoy watching; there will be plenty of big reveals there and with any luck some of them will be related to games I have played in the past. Only 3 hours to go!

EDIT: And, of course, I'd be watching for the extremely slim chance there will be any word on TES V.

I'll [censored] a brick if they show anything about TES:V, but it'll be interesting to see which other games they announce. I heard there will be one that won't come out until 2013...

But other than ES all I want to see is a new Resident Evil game, which hopefully will be like the Outbreak games. But Elder Scrolls would dwarf any other announcement for me.

I don't think Half Life 3 will be announced any time soon. News of HL2 Episode 3 would come out before that, I would think.

Hopefully Resident Evil.... I thought that's what the Murder Your Maker ads were for but apparently it's for Prototype. But there is a chance that all 3 of those ads were for different things.

I don't think there will be an episode 3...they released the Lost Coast and didn't give it a number, personally I think that was the Half Life EP3 everybody was talking about.

The Lost Coast was just a cut level/tech demo of the Source engine. Episodes 1 and 2 came out after they released Lost Coast (which was free).

Valve is very secretive about their projects, which is refreshing I suppose. A lot of games these days seem to have so much information leaked, it's nice to not know things about a game until a relatively short time before they're released. It's also annoying for someone as impatient as I am.

Interesting. I've heard of the awards and I often hear people say they're pretty pathetic, or at least I thought I've heard this in the past. I might watch some tonight if we still get Spike.

But if you're impatient, wouldn't you rather see Valve being all secretive and then suddenly announcing that 'Half Life 3 will be released in 7 months' than that they would pop up somewhere earlier on and say say 'Half Life 3 will be released in 2013'?

Hmmm. If it's true about Del Toro presenting his game at the VGAs, don't you guys think it would be entirely possible that it's HIS game that won't be out until 2013? Considering there are articles saying "Expect the first game, best case scenario, 2013." Things may have changed since then though, as the articles in question are a bit older.

LOST COAST IS NOT EPISODE 3. WHOEVER INVENTED THAT WILD MISCONCEPTION HAS OBVIOUSLY NOT PLAYED IT.

Yes, this hints that there will be a Half-Life 3, but if that was released first, it'd be like Bethesda releasing Oblivion before Bloodmoon.
