Video game moments that made you cry

Post » Sun May 18, 2014 3:20 am

Alright folks, lets hear it. I want to know which video game moments or endings made you cry!

For me, I just beat Final Fantasy X for the first time ever (Had previously gotten to Braska's Final Aeon 10 years ago, but couldn't beat it) and I gotta say..

Spoiler
I really actually shed tears when Tidus disappeared after they defeated Yu Yevon and Sin died. Yuna looked so lost and hurt, I mean how can you not freakin' cry?? Jeez. That was an emotional moment. Being married I know how you feel towards *the one*, and losing them like that would be devastating. Really great ending.

Mass Effect 3..the "control" ending...I came pretty close.

I think what struck such an emotional chord with me was probably how much time you invest into a character -- creating his identity, making an impression on people, etc..

Bioware did an excellent job.

alot of moments...

playing Skies of Arcadia for the first time I cried when the Little Jack sank and I thought Drachma died.... then again when I saw him again when obtaining the Purple Moon Crystal, where he was there keeping Rhaknam company in his final moments, even though he had dedicated his life to getting revenge on Rhaknam for killing his son...
I cried when Belleza suicide bombed Galcian when your allied fleet was trying to break past the Armada to assault Soltis and the Silver Gigas...
the whole Piastol and Maria side quest in the Gamecube port was heart touching as well....

I remember back in the late 90s, I cried when playing pokemon Blue.. simply because I spent over a year collecting all 150, and all I got in return was a "Hey, you got all 150! congrats!", and I realized i would never get that year of my life back...

I cried when playing an old "Might and Magic" game on the PC (8 to be specific), I had spent so much time grinding and getting good gear my character had aged to much, so whenever i used the option "rest until healed" she would drop dead, and I had to run to a chapel to get her revived, only for her to drop dead again.....
Only reason I was able to beat the MQ on that character was by recruiting all 4 Dragons... which I hate recruiting because they are so OP...

BUT

I cried the most when playing through the "Clannad Visual Novel"...
Yes, Visual Novels ARE games, no matter what you say

Never have I cried at the ending of... well, anything. Although I do sometimes feel really, really sad. Halo: Reach for example, made me sad, even though it was a forgone conclusion.

Also, Bioshock Infinite. That and really confused.

Red Dead Redemption, as others have mentioned.

And others, I'm sure.

Oh, and ME3, but mostly because I was sad the trilogy ended on such a low note in terms of story quality.

Shadow of the Colussus has a few moments near the end. But especially...

Spoiler
When Agro, your only friend in the desolate land, falls to his death so that you can go on..... Yes, I know we learn during the credits that he lived, but you don't know that the first time you play.
I think I literally had a little scream of anguish at that. I was so blown away by that moment.

Red Dead Redemption.

FF7, we all know when.
FF6, when Cid dies and Celes attempts to kill herself :(

That part always gets me, and so does the part just before that with his father. Also the end of Kingdom Hearts kinda has the same effect.

On a side note, the ending to X is why I got X-2 lol. Just to be satisfied, which I was.

Red Dead Redemption:

John Marston's death.

Mass Effect 3:

Spoiler

Grunt's assumed death (I was so joyful when he came out alive).

Thane's death.

Legion's death.

Shepard's death (Control ending).

Telltale's The Walking Dead:

Spoiler

Duck and Katjaa's death (mainly because of Kenny's reaction).

Mass Effect 3 probably hit me the hardest.

Dark Souls: The final fight, its music, and the ending credit music really wrap up all the themes from the game in a very beautiful, but sad bow
The Walking Dead: http://youtu.be/yBD7Ir04Sis (massive spoiler link)
Bastion: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EGgQ5sVKql0&hd=1

Bioshock: I'm a svcker for the good ending

Then again, the entire beginning of the second half of the game is just one depressing moment after another. And don't forget Cyan's little side quest in part 2.

What got me the closest to crying was the end of Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII.
Spoiler
Seeing Zack dying, gasping his last words to a crippled Cloud in between pained breaths, speaking of Cloud carrying on his legacy as the Buster Sword once again changes hands, it just was a pretty powerful moment. It also was built up pretty well with the facing impossible odds but still trying to perseverance nonetheless, and the combat gameplay going kind of funky during it. Zack's last thoughts being of Aerith. Man, Zack's character felt quite real to me.

Another moment was when J'zargo died during that battle in Winterhold for the College quests. :(

Never, video games have always failed to touch me emotionally. I have gotten stingy/wet eyes from a few books and films but never games. Even the famously sad ending of Red Dead Redemption left me cold (albeit I didn't play the game, I just know the storyline so maybe that's not the same).

A number of the mid-game events in Mass Effect 3 are like that. Didn't see some of them in person, but I did watch them on Youtube.

Like

Spoiler

All the various ways Mordin can die on Tuchanka, or
Tali killing herself in the "bad" ending to the Geth/Quarian conflict

MGS 4: GotP: The graveyard scene with Solid (Old) Snake and Big Boss, I don't know why but I got a little choked on that scene.

CoD: MW3: Seeing Soap pass away, I didn't cry but I couldn't talk for a good 5 minuets after that scene played.

MGS 1: Sniper Wolf...Just sniper wolf. And bloody Grey Fox.

MGS 3: The Boss. The Boss. "In memory of a patriot who saved the world"

MGS PO: Johnathon's death. A small description found in the WIKI, "Johnathon died in Big Bosses arms, forever influencing his philosophy". And Elsia's (She was like 13) death

MGS PW: The scene were Big Boss offers to kill Chico (A eleven year old boy who was just tortured and forced to sell out his unit). And AI boss drowning itself in the lake.

Halo Reach: The damm ending.

Closest I've been to crying from a game is the "ending" of Red Dead Redemption, though the actual ending felt redeeming (Oh, so that's why...).

Also all of the Bioshocks.

Basically any game where the main protagonist dies, if he/she's likeable enough to make a connection too.
