Simple Noob question about forums

I've noticed that a lot of other peoples' posts are sometimes almost completely blocked out by black bars (sometimes entirely). Is this a "spoiler-preventing" mechanism, or can I turn that function off? Thanks in advance.

Yes, it's spoiler code. You have to select it to read it.
