[RELz] Viking Village

Post » Wed Dec 15, 2010 1:39 am

It's okay Awia :)

And I must apologize too, for not answering anything here. :(
But Spartan, RoC won't be out for a while, but version 2.0 will be out in a couple of days, with voice acting, more weapons, new building models and lots more. :D

Most of the voice acting is complete, but there are still some more lines, and I need someone to do them.
I need one male actor for the King of the Village and for a priest in the village
And I need one or more female actors to do the 8 or so female characters.

@Chakka: I'm sorry, but I will stick to the Viking. It doesn't fit to the lore, but it's not even in the same worldspace, so...
And I have always been a fan of Vikings, so as I said, I'll stick to the plan. :)

This looks interesting, but I have a question. If you're doing this as Vikings, are you trying to be historically accurate (at least to a doable degree)? I noticed in the screenshots on TESNexus that your Vikings were wearing fur armor. Viking's didn't wear fur. They wore mail, maybe plated mail if they were rich.

This video has some accurate viking apparel in it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h5zNK--DUDg

Also, please tell me there are no horned helmets in this mod.

Sorry, to break it to you, but yes, Vikings did wear fur armor. :)

In the cold north, no one would have survived a winter wearing mail, as mail doesn't actually keep you warm, rather the other way around; you'll freeze...
I have read about Vikings, I have seen Viking homelands, learned about Vikings at school, and have lived with Viking Knowledge all my life (Yes, I live in Norway).
I am trying to get it historical correct, not based on events, but on clothing, housing and such.

Vikings weared more fur than mail. Remember that these Vikings are now in their village, and like soldiers in modern times, they didn't wear their battlegear (Not everything, but most of it they weared though) while home, except from the guards. But they used fur armor/clothing to keep warm, and when fighting in the north they could use fur under their mail.
Only when they were traveling to distant lands to raid, they weared only mail (Like when they were the first to discover America for example.. Sorry, just had to say it :P )

Also, there is NO horned helmets in this mod, because, as I'm sure you know, since you said it, the Vikings didn't use those.

Yeah, I can voice act if you want. Just PM me the lines and let me know what kind of personality you want, etc. I actually have time tonight to do it. Stoker's voicing is all done.

I saw the VA call on TESA, but have not dl'ed the script yet. What are the age ranges of the female characters, and about how much dialog do they have in total? I might be able to do some VA work for you.

Like when they were the first to discover America for example..

The native Americans they met when they "discovered" the place might disagree with that "first" part. And it's not certain that those didn't displace an earlier population when they spread in from Asia.

If we're just talking about Europeans noticing that there was another continent across the Atlantic, the Irish are also claiming to have beaten the Vikings...

P.S. Horned helmets, no, but horn helmets (panels made of horn), yes.

That's true Ghastley. I wrote it in a hurry, and didn't think about that. But about the Irish... Well, I don' think they had the boats needed and the navigation skills needed for such a voyage (Not looking down on Irish or anything, but according to history, the Irish hadn't come as far as the Vikings at this point, and the Vikings were raiding Irish villages too...)

But we can't rely on history though, as it says that Colombus was the first :P

Greenie: The female voices ranges from 20/30 to 50/60, so practically anyone could do them :)

Clothing does not equal armor.

I'll be working on the voicing tomorrow. I'm going to have Old Book and Rav do some too. Rav will do an awesome job on the King.

Okay they's great Sulteric! :D

But Grimnir, you mustn't look at a music video to find out what Vikings weared... Music videos are often (and mostly) wrong in this way.
I have studied Vikings back and fourth before I started this, and yes, they did wear fur for clothing AND armor. (Leather, fur, mail, plate-mail, etc)

You know, in early Viking Age, they didn't even use Iron weapons...

Thanks TaDenBort (Morsomt navn forresten :P )

So, I've gotten the voice actors now, and things are turning out quite so good :D
(Voice is the only missing piece now, unless anyone finds a bug?)

I was thinking maybe you could put in beyond the border in skyrim? Then you can put those waypoints you get in normal quests?
Also im not sure if you make your own armour but if you can that would be awsome :)

I prefer to have a new world, and not being restricted to the lore of Skyrim. (Yes, if I were to put it in an already existing place, I would HAVE to follow the lore of it...)
But there is already new armor in the mod though.

Well, on another note, Version 2.0 (Last Viking Village version that will come...) is soon out, as I'm currently just waiting for the last voices. :)

Btw, a guy built a boat that's supposed to be a replica of the one sailed by that Irish saint and sailed to America.

Just sayin' =)

Edit: Can't you say that the Christian Missionaries are Missionaries of the Nine or something?
Alot of people will be put off by the Christian Lore Unfriendly-ness, but wouldn't mind the Viking thing.
