[RELz] Viking Village

Post » Wed Dec 15, 2010 8:57 am

Well, I will be focusing on making detailed areas (As you've seen with the Village now), as I know that many, but undetailed areas are boring.

I am planning to make a Trading Post on a nearby Island.
And I will also continue on the Vanirs, as that will be the main "problem" for the Vikings, and I'm planning small and big battles between the two.
But a main goal for me is to make the already existing island bigger. I always wanted a fjord, with the village on the end of it, and on the other end, the big seas.

But maybe I will continue on the christianity plans, just rewrite it a little to be the Nine. I will do this since the story that was written was so incredibbly good!! :D

Just a little heads-up on this version and the next version:
There's a problem with the Arena when using Viking Village. The gate into the arena won't be opened due to a mistake I made with a script.
The problem has now been fixed, and the fix will be in the next version (2.0)

I've also gotten the female voice actors sorted out, and the king's voices are coming along nicely. So all in all, things are beginning to get close to an update. Oh, and I've also gotten an interior/exterior builder, to improve the quality of the interiors/exteriors.

The Arena Bug has now been fixed, and I've released a patch for it. (v1.3.1)

It's okay mate. :)

The priest isn't really needed anymore, since I'm dropping the whole christianity thing.

Well, I'm thinking of dropping the christiaity thing for now, and rather expand the Viking World, as that would be most fun. .)

:(

but will you be replacing it with something similar? that story would be so cool to see in Obliv, where just about nothing is very immersive or deep (in vanilla)

Hello! Looks really nice, but I'm getting some errors about missing resources. I've got 1.3.1 with the 1.3.2 hotfix (btw, the links have each others' names on PES), and tes4files says:

Cannot find file "D:/games/Oblivion/Data/meshes/mr_siika/ballista/ballista.nif"
Cannot find file "D:/games/Oblivion/Data/textures/armor/norman/normancuirass.dds"
Cannot find file "D:/games/Oblivion/Data/textures/dwemertechnology/airship/rope.dds"
Cannot find file "D:/games/Oblivion/Data/music/Viking/Viking_Music_01.mp3"

None of these are in the release, so this is a sensible error message. Also:

Cannot find file "D:/games/Oblivion/Data/sound/fx/farmerscreatures/cow - idle.wav"

although -- confusingly enough -- this is indeed there where it should be.

Am I alone in this?

I don't really know why that would happen, as the ballista was removed, an airship was never used, and the Music was also removed...
The norman Cuirass on the other hand, might be some wrong packing.

Anyway, in version 1.4 everything should be correctly packed, as I have taken much care in doing that this time. (As this will hopefully be the last release of the village...)

Has the problem with not being able to get there been fixed? I really want to play this but last time I tried the guy in Anvil offered no dialogue

- yep, works now, and it's awesome.

Version 1.4 has been released!

I gave in to the demands of voice acting. This version includes only voices - The kings voices are not yet included, as I have not gotten anyone to do the voices (hint, hint...)

Version 1.5 will feature all the stuff I had planned for 1.4... :)

Version 1.5 is just around the corner!
I had less left to do than I had thought, so it will be coming out a little sooner than I thought as well...

It will be finished this week, and will go through a testing phase to make sure it's as bug free as possible. (This is because of version 1.3s failed release, as it contained a bunch of bugs!)

Version 1.5 is currently in Beta stage, and it halfway through, so expect a release quite soon.

It now also features working LOD (Which was much easier than I had thought), and hopefully a world Map and Local Map.
Aside from that, it features the before-mentioned: 3 times larger island, new building models(Interior/Exterior), new quests, new locations, and a bunch of bugfixes.

New dialogues in this version will not have voices (Turn on General & Dialogue subtitles), so it may be a little weird when there are voices, then suddenly no voices.
Therefore I will release it without voices, but I will upload a Optional Download which will contain the voices for those who want them. :) (This will probably be updated quite often, so be on the lookout for updates on it)

Err, I hope a friendly bug report isn't unwelcome... still, it's an easy couple of fixes:

The first few errors are clearly spurious (since they're Vanilla textures), and can be ignored. The message about a dds already existing can prolly also be ignored. The others were all due to errors in the nifs, easily fixed (grep is your friend):
