So basically at the end of proving honor, when Vilkas should be waiting at the top of the steps to take you to the initiation ceremony, he isn't there!

I've tried loading previous saves during the quest also also saves before the quest and re-doing it but the same happens every time. I have loaded my oldest save and gone from there but exactly the same happens. I'm playing on ps3 and have clocked over 100 hours, is there any way i can get arnoud this and carry on with the companions quests without starting a new character?

Instead of Vilkas waiting for me, my compass directs me to Skjor, which completes the quest without doing the initiation. The quest comes up as completed even though the obvective "return to Jorrvaskr" hasn't been completed. As i am not actually a "companion" none of the leaders will give me quests as Skjor says they will because they do not recognise me as a companion!

I know that skyrim is an old game so probably won't get a reply on here but any help would be great!

Try that:

Go to a save before you initiate the ceremony, attack one if the Whiterun guards. Once you start the ceremony, Whiterun guards will attack, but Kodlack and the rest will continue the speech.

Once it ends, the Whiterun guards ask you to submit and take you to jail.

Once you leave hall and find Kodlack again, he'll start saying the script for the end of the quest that follows the ceromonys speech, and the quest becomes completed.

That's form a user having this problem:

while on the "Return to Jorvaskrr" part of the quest (never talked to Vilkas), I attacked a Whiterun guard and got bounty, then ran to initiate the ceremony behind Jorvaskrr.

While some Companions intercepted the guards in front of Jorvaskrr and fought them as the ceremony commenced, eventually the guards won.

These guards came to attack the Companions who were behind Jorvaskrr and involved in the ceremony.

(since they were involved in the ceremony, the Companions here never fought back)

After the ceremony ended I was still frozen like how the glitch normally plays out, but one of the attacking guards eventually prompted me to go to Jail.

I did, waited out the jailtime, returned to Jorvaskrr, talked to Kodlak, and the quest was completed.

thanks for your help, but there is no ceremony! valkas should be waiting at the steps to take me there, but he's not there and there's no ceremony round the back!

What if you commit a crime, and go to jail...

What happens next ???

Try to wait some days and see if Vilkas comes back. !!!

or

If it's nor working load a save before the ceremony, wait for 31 days (in-game), and then make a new manual save.

After that delete and install your main game again (plus patch), and load that save. Try to make the quest again. !!!

when i commit a crime and serve my jail sentence, i head back to jorvaskr.. and guess who isn't standing on the steps waiting for me like he should be!! (yeah that's right vilkas)

i'll just wait 31 in game days and then head back, hopefully he will be on the steps.

he's definitely not dead because he walks around inside jorvaskr like everyone else, when i talk to him he still doesn't say "we've been waiting for your return" or whatever he should say!

so i've waited 31 in game days, deleted patches, re-installed them etc.. and he's still not tthere! i'm starting to think there's nothing i can do to go any further with the companions

Are you fast traveling into Whiterun? Or walking through the gates? The quest is known to bug if you fast travel to dragonsreach and then walk to Jorrvaskr. You need to walk through the front gates with Farkas.

Sadly I've tried both. Iv'e fast traveled to whiterun then walked there, fast traveled to dragons reach and then walked there, fast traveled to whiterun stables then walked through the gates and I've even tried walking all the way back from Dustman's Crypt.

I had that happen once or twice, and all I did was go and find him and talk to him. Had no more problems after that.
