DF Vista/mouse issues

Post » Wed Dec 22, 2010 5:26 pm

I downloaded the game yesterday and successfully followed the Dosbox instructions to get it running. Everything works fine EXCEPT combat. When I hold down the right mouse button nothing at all happens. I'm not really sure that the problem is with my mouse (two button with scrollbar). It works fine in every other way. I can click on things (inventory, etc.) use mouselook mode, etc. No problems.

This is not the first time this has happened to me. A couple of years ago I set it up myself on dosbox (I have the game). Same problem. I also had my brother try to set it up - same problem.

Has anyone else had this issue? I have Vista, 32 bit and a mainstream mouse that shipped with my pc.

I can cast spells so I suppose I could play a pure mage, but I'd rather not.

Could it be some sort of mouse config issue? Any help would be appreciated.

Did ya hold down the attack button and sway your mouse in any direction for combat?

Yes -- it does nothing when I hold the button down or move the mouse.

Did you use the same mouse on both incidents? If so try a different mouse and maybe it'll work.

I checked today and I have a laser mouse. I'm wondering if that's the problem. Those weren't around at the time Daggerfall was released. So maybe it somehow reads the combat moves incorrectly, especially since they aren't click based.

I'm going to get an old fashioned ps2 mouse and see if that helps.

Is yours a laser by any chance?

I'm using a wireless laser mouse, it works fine.

Do your controls have the attack/swing weapon button set to M2?

Yes. I've also tried remapping it with no luck.
