Vista related issue?

To put it simply, I can't control the in-game cursor. It's standing there, inanimate, while I'm in control of a black, Windows-like mouse arrow. The funny thing is, when I click around randomly, the game responds, though very sluggishly and sometimes nothing happens. Graphical glitches (messed up colors etc.) start occurring too as I crawl to the character creation screen. The installation went fine and I am using the dosbox.conf settings recommended by the stickied guide. These are my laptop specs:

Dell Inspiron 1501
AMD Turion64x2 1.6GHz
1.5GB RAM
Ati Xpress 1150 256MB HyperMemory
80GB HDD
-------------
Windows Vista Home Premium 32bit

I realize there probably isn't much you people can do here because I did everything by the book, but do you think this could be caused by Vista? If the chances of it running better on XP are slim, I'd better drop it. Though, if they are, I could go through the hassle of setting up a dual-boot configuration.

Try Ctrl+F10 to use the in-game cursor (to stop doing that, press ctrl+F10 again or simply alt-tab).

All fine and dandy now, thank you.
