Visual Deterioration Of Weapons And Armor

Post » Wed Aug 18, 2010 1:22 pm

I know it is probably too much to ask but could it be possible (at least for basic armor) to have visual deterioraton?

Like:
100% - shiny awesome armor
75% - rusty and dented here and there
50% - rusty all over, with holes here and there
25% - rusty full of holes
And with repair the armor/weapon looks improve back to shiny & awesome.

I mean, it takes 4 times more meshes files but hey, this will add so much realism and immersion!

holes and all is a great idea, but even in good old skyrim will not armor rust after 5 dungeons, tho moist salt mines wuld get it going

I like the idea alot... Add that on with more armor variety (like Morrowind) and Bethesda seriously is going to blow people away with Skyrim... (I already am!)

I guess if they just did textures to replace it instead of an actual mesh, becuase if it is an entire new object we are probably gonna get about 1/2 the armor that we already have
it is a good idea though, and in Fallout they were about to incorporate texture packs

I'd cut back on the rust. Not like we will be soaking our armor in water while we swing away at a dragon. Don't forget, clothes tear, might want to include some descriptions for clothing as well as light armor (gonna be hard to dent chainmail)

i say it should reflect the type of wear and tear the armor undergoes if its by combat then obviously it should have dents scratches and puntctures if its age then rust if it was hit by fire alot then discoloration would work

Deterioration is the blades sharpness.

Great Idea...I mentioned armor and weapons physically breaking but still being useable in a limited capacity instead of just disappearing to your inventory.

I recall a script being done for oblivion that did this.

Naturally it led to naughty things.

Neat but, I never play in third person. Plus I dont have a top of the line PC so I wouldnt want that many scripts running for something Ill probably never notice, especially if its applied to NPCs.

It can apply to weapons as well, you could see your sword become dull, pitted and chipped.
