Visually Appealing v.s. Armor Pieces

Post » Thu Mar 03, 2016 3:52 pm

I just wear my fully upgraded vault suit and light-sturdy leather armor so you can still see the numbers on the back of said vault suit.

Your picture is freaking adorable.

Wait, are you talking about the outfits, the combat or both?

My character wears Fr Gabe's (this ghoul should have been a character you rescue from ferals, all he does is attack if saved) clerical garb with armour modification under Power Armour. I gave him some mutton chops to look the Victorian padre. PA fits with the lore and I can Saul the skies in my jetpack or walk the Glowing Sea. When I reach a settlement I leave the PA in a rack, or whatever it's called.

What you wear is easily influenced by what type of character you build. If you build a melee or hand to hand guy you're probably going to need armor for awhile. At least until you reach a certain level or point in the game. .. If you build a sneaky sniper type you can wear anything you want because you're hopefully going to be far away from any real danger.

Mines a semi, opportunistic gunslinger who uses pistols and rifles. At a semi range. Like he does have some sniper rifles, but can take down an enemy mid range as well.

I like to look good and have some decent armor protection. So I use what mods are available to do both. Calyps has released some mods with some nice looking sixy clothing for female characters. To not cover up the good looks I have another mod that lets me turn Combat Armor invisible while still getting the protection from it. Generally I will turn the chest piece invisible and have the leg and arm pieces showing. I won't use the Combat Armor Helmet unless I am in full military mode with a character. Most of the time its the Militia hat since its the closest thing to a cowboy hat I can find.

When I feel like looking all military I will toss on a all black vault suit or a BOS uniform and then a full set of Combat Armor.

If your on the PC here are the mods I am using at the moment.

Like in all other Bethesda games, what my character wears depends on their personality instead of what gives the most protection. Even if that means wearing something that you can't put armor on top for no reason.

I agree OP, vanity is always important to me in these games. The good looking options this time around are extremely limited, and the few decent looking outfits can't be upgraded. I got so sick of the limited, ugly options that I just quit playing. I play on console, so all those amazing looking armor/clothing mods are just there to tease me. I'm completely at Bethesda's mercy. Hopefully the dlc will introduce new armor and clothing that don't look like total ass and can be upgraded to actually protect us. Otherwise I can hold out hope that console mods will actually be a reality before too much time goes by and I just don't care anymore.

I did start a raider RP over the weekend. I don't know how long it'll last, but at least that way I can embrace looking completely ridiculous.

Honestly it depends. A soldier character would not be needing to look good since they are often gonna be a target. A spy needs to not look like a threat so armor is not that useful once Ballistic weave is available.

grognaks or heavy raider chest with heavy metal arms and legs looks badass. Raider heavy arms could have looked cool but they went with giant staples. It's almost impossible to get a cool look because 5he pipboy gives you a tiny arm like a crab.

I love the scribe armor and the brotherhood fatigues. I hate that they're so impractical. There are a few outfits that I like but are basically useless because you can't wear armour over them, they don't offer protection as they are and aren't included on that certain list previously mentioned.

Its stupid. Why put all that work in something and make it more or less useless?

Exactly my point.

But at this point I am more than willing to give up protection for vanity. Because I look amazing.

It doesn't make sense because the Junk we can collect can be used for more than just you know workshops and stuff.

Why can't leather be used for armor or bits of metal?

But for the outfits, how about the pieces of cloth we pick up and other materials like the straw from those straw pillows? Etc.

I wear Maxon's Battlecoat with full Ballistic Weave, a Military Cap, and a pair of Eyeglasses. I've have worn this for the last 30 levels so far. Looking like some badass Enclave officer, for sure

That's the crappy part about getting it.

It would've been really smart to have the last part of the armorer perk give the player BW mods.

there's no doubt the only thin layer clothing that looks great is the vault jumpsuit and the brotherhood of steel uniform. We need more of these types of uniforms with more color options in the game.

For that I'd probably stick to leather or combat armor.. (I kind of felt combat looked too bulky for my character so I stuck to leather.) Once you reach a level that you start seeing the heavy armor variants. which is essentially around level 40 or 50.. can't really remember. You can actually probably stop wearing armor and switch to just clothing you like to wear. Staying alive in any RPG is still mostly about HP's.. Without taking any perks at all related to endurance (except for aquagirl because I wanted to explore the ocean) my level 78 sniper has 523 hp's. . Basically armor is really good in the beginning. Keeps you safe and alive. Clothing is for when you get to a point that armor is actually protecting you too much and you stop fearing death during combat.

Vanity.....

I'm lvl 25

And I am really stuck on vanity. I want him to look good as well. It's an In Character thing that I like to express how I imagine they would look like

I know what you mean, it took me a long time to find armor that had good armor and appearance. I finally settled on the courser uniform with ballistic weave, the military cap, and black rim sunglasses. It reminds me of the stereotypical poetry slam person.

Amazing - none of you guys have discovered the Army Fatigues...?

They are clean, crisp, tailored, sharp looking, can be Ballistic Weaved and you can wear any armor over top.

The Military Fatigues are unfortunately muddy, but otherwise the same (and with even better protection).

Army Fatigues look great with Treated leather - and Military Fatigues look pretty good with Shadowed (black) leather.

How unfortunate that guys are reporting all their mod use here!

Because I thought we were talking about Bethesda's game?

And I believe that is what the OP is talking about...

I discovered them in the first hour of play. I use Military Fatigues as a base, Combat Armor for the chest, leather for the arms and legs, Rusty Military Helmet, Wrap-Around Goggles, and Gunner's Green Bandana. Or an Assault Gas Mask, as the situation demands.

The +2 Agility is killa for any character.

I have to say, though, that the Vault Suit with leather pieces is still the way I envision the main character looking for the sake of a "true to theme" approach. Plus, I do not find leather to be "under-powered" at all. Some of the legendary pieces you can find that augment Stealth or Action Points make it well worth the trade-off.
