Waitwaitwaitaminute!

So you're saying that the same guy who wrote about serpents eating each other in an infinite ouroboros-like fashion, the nature of god and time, came up with several racial conceptions of god, and wrote his own thirty-six sermon long bible, actually didn't know about all those things until he ripped off a popular graphic novel to create the living-warrior-poet-god-king who philosophized everything mentioned before together?

I must say, that sounds extremely reasonable.

No. I?m saying he might have read Watchmen when he was younger. In the eighties.

I thought Vivec was already Xerxes. He can't be John as well.

I don't think MK is an Alan Moore fan, seeing as Tedders had to point out the resemblance after seeing 300.

300 was Frank Miller. ;)

And on the connection between Vivec and Xerxes - a god-king resembling a god-king, how odd.

I think that http://imperial-library.info/gallery/mw_TAoM_p24.jpg was inspired by http://www.hairflair.org/images/amy-winehouse-beehive-hairstyle_49.jpg.

Watchmen and 300 have the same director. Close enough.

Another "hey, could X be inspired by Y"-Thread...

Vivec is a very complex character, so even should there have been some sort of inspiration drawn from Dr. Manhattan (only the author would know), it is in my opinion certainly only a part of what constitutes Vivec. Or perhaps Vivec and Dr. Manhattan (I don't know the comic nor have I seen the movie yet) seem so similar because they really have something in common, perhaps the story of a http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Hero_with_a_Thousand_Faces? And wouldn't that place them well into a line with Luke Skywalker, Neo or even such classic stories of Prometheus, Buddha and Christ?

The important thing to me is: when is the point where something (a story) that may/may not be inspired by another thing becomes so profoundly devised and elaborate to be considered independent, consistent and self-sustaining, in short: to be classified as "new" and/or "original"?

I think the TES world and its characters, events, lore etc. therein can be classified as "new" and "original" despite the many inspirations it had or may have had, be it from world history, religion, mythology, human nature, philosophy or fiction and fantasy. TES is a melting pot of ideas and has evolved into a "New World".

Well Vivec is this half blue-ish color so... but I think Dr. Manhattan is stronger so let the battle of the demigods begin.

I get what your saying, OP, but no I don't think he was inspired by Dr. Manhattan. Becoming a godlike figure in fiction always stirs up philosophical thought from that character as they decided where they belong now and such.

I guess what I'm saying are that the similarities are natural character progression for fictional characters put into that role. Any similarities are more likely coincidences.
