Voice Acting and Races!

Post » Thu Nov 04, 2010 10:26 pm

This is a pretty short topic but as we all know dunmer in Morrowind sounded serious.... And as we all know there is a mod in Oblivion where you can travel to Morrowind... And Jiub looks and sounds like a stupid mother[censored]. And Some of the races looked more serious in Morrowind. Yes the animation and graphics is good... But you are a troll if you rate games by graphics. Another thing I noticed: I don't think there are spears in Oblivion cause I didn't see any.. Maybe there are but maybe not. Anyways vote In The Poll. The Poll is about BOTH of the games. Edit :But anyways how do you think will skyrim be? This was just a little discussion and I posted it at the wrong place. My Mistake :3 Anwyays I think Skyrim Will Be Great

The general feel of morrowind was better but perhaps achieved more easily as they didn't need as much realism in their graphics but who am I to know. Also there were no spears in oblivon. A while longer in this forum and that will definitely be made clear to you

Where were better voices?

They were better in Oblivion because there was barely any voice acting in Morrowind except in the beginning, If there was furher on then ok, but I got too bored of the game to continue,

Where were better pepole faces (style, not graphics)

I wouldn't say Morrowind's were 'better', but they did have more unique looking races.

Neither games had especially good voices, but Oblivion had the best of it with experienced actors like Sean Bean and Patrick Stewart. The rest, with the exclusion of one of the male Imperials and maybe a female one, seemed to have absolutely zero idea in how to seem the least bit attached to a scene. The female Orc/Nord I point out especially, even with her resume being better. They need to get people who understand this sort of thing and then maybe we can look past the facial limitations, though I'm disappointed that there's not been a single game since Half-Life 2 that's done face and voice together correctly.

ahh come on people. i know morrowind was better, sure it was, but this is already turning into a obsession, people are forgetting about oblivion, its turning into a cliche, WHATAHELL PEOPLE, obviously oblivion voice actors were better then the ones in morrowind, the ones in morrowind were just one lines, who can forget about that.. infamous.. joke.(" have you seen any.... elfs? HAHAHAHHAHAHA!!!@#! ") but oblivion has many amazing voices that make the voice acting in oblivion simply amazing, the world indeed feel very alive with then, and yea, i think morrowind has those very distinct voices for every race, but lets face it, one liners games aren't as good as an entirely full voiced games

edit: the argonian and khajjit voices are somenthing i want back in skyrim!! as well as at least one imperial blade with the imperial male voice of oblivion( like a easter egg, since i LOOVED that voice so muuch!! )

The male dunmer voices in Morrowind were far superior to the ones in Oblivion

Yeah, they sounded more beasty than Orcs and Nords combined, which is a bad thing imo. As I've said before, Oblivions Dunmer voices outright suk, but Morrowinds are not really that much better.

here are the reasons I liked Oblivion better-

1. My friend played morrowind in front of me for hours on end that I got bored of it

2. When I played morrowind I felt like I was just plopped in the world and Bethesda said "well.... here you go... have fun"

3. When I played oblivion, I knew right off what the story was going to be about, and that I was a prophesied person in a dream of an emperor.

4. The way your arms looked when you ran in morrowind really bugged me.

5. I liked the graphics better.

Morrowind was a good game. I never beat it myself, but I just really liked Oblivion and all it offered me. I agree however that the voice acting was not good in Oblivion..... at all. It made me laugh countless times.

Wow. I thought I was alone...go Morrowind.

They sounded awesome, like a human with laryngitis. I wouldn't say beastly.

It's suppose to be minus graphics as far as I understood. Obviously the running and animations were worse in Morrowind.
Morrowind had a very clear plot. Also coming from a prophecy, just not from an emperor. You just had to read what the plot was rather than just listen to it.

You can't deny Patric Stewart and Sean Bean were amazing but they are all that was good about Oblivions voice acting. I would have preferred no voices TBH

well i like to think that when Azura cursed the Chimer (Dunmer, before they were cursed) with raspy voices. It sounds like the Dunmer have been smoking 2 packs a day since they were 10. The Orcs and The Nords would look weird with a similar voice IMO, and thier voices were still about as deep and much more heroic sounding than the dunmer.

That being said, I think the Nord and Orc voices need to be redone as well.

I know the lore behind Dunmer voice and I'm totally cool with raspy voices, but not if the over-do it like in Morrowind. Thus, they didn't even try it in Oblivion, leading to more failing. I hope they can finally fix the dunmer voice and all other voices at the same time too :)

Who was Sean Bean? The only voice I recognize in Oblivion besides Patrick Stewart's is Wonder Woman er, Lynda Carter's. :D

(...is he Martin? If so, that's probably why I don't recognize it. I've pretty much avoided the MQ in most of my playthroughs since the first. Heh.)

I like Patrick Stewart's voice, he should have voiced a longer lasting character like Martin!

There wasn't much voice acting in Morrowind, but the voice acting that was there was good. Not great (besides the awesome male Dunmer voice) but good. The only good voice actors in Oblivion were Patrick Stewart and Sean Bean, and you only heard them during the main quest. Which means, practically never, since Oblivion's main quest svcks and after my first playthrough I have always avoided it as best I can. The voice actors for Oblivion's common NPCs, who you run into all the damn time, svck worse than the voice acting of... I was going to say VtM: Redemption, but that actually wasn't that bad when you got used to the fake medieval English. Oblivion is just terrible.

For some reason, I find this OP very discomforting.

EDIT: I've got it. It's because they are rating Oblivion by the sound of a voice done for a MOD (not official) and do not even know whether or not there are spears in Oblivion somehow.

I think for pretty much each questions, particularly voices most people will simply vote for the game they played first. If you play a game and a certain character or race are voiced in a certain way you associate that with them. If you then play another game and they have changed the voice it sounds wrong because its not what you associate with the race or character.

the races in oblivion had much less effort put into them and the plot was no where as astonishing as becoming the Nerevarine

The voice actors in OB were good, but it was annoying how every elf had the same voice, and Nords and Orcs sounded the same, and Khajihts and Argonians sounded the same. If they'd had more voice actors it would've been great.

Skyrim's going to have more voice actors, apparently ALOT more voice actors.

Oh and I think there's another problem here.

WHY DO THE ELVES IN THE TRAILER LOOK LIKE ALIENS!! :frog: :frog:

1) Stop wasting cash on high profile actors.
2) This allows for more cash which = more voice actors.

My 2 cent :)

Oblivion had better voices overall, though Morrowind's voices had better distinction. The Nords had an accent in Morrowind (even though they were voiced by the same guy in Oblivion), the Khajiit sounded like felines, the High Elves snobbish, etc. The voices Oblivion had were improved (Elisabeth Noone did a much better job with the female beast voices and Wes Johnson really commanded as male Imperials; the addition of Ralph Cosham and Craig Sechler worked great for male Bretons and male Bosmer, too)... it just wasn't as diverse.

I liked that they made everone have a voice, but I wish that for Skyrim there will be more voice actors.
I want Skyrim to have at least 1 voice actor for each gender of each race.

Watching 2 Orcs and a Nord standing next each other and all speaking with the same voice was something...
