PROJECT-VALHALLA
A Fallout 3 mod

About:
Project-Valhalla (http://www.project-valhalla.org/Main_Page) is a mod (adds user-made content) to the computer game http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fallout_3. Fallout 3 is an adventure game set in a post-apocalyptic Washington D.C. where the player gets to do quests and explore the surroundings. Game-wise it is very similar to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Elder_Scrolls_IV:_Oblivion, for those of you who have played it.

Project-Valhalla adds a number of characters and quests to this game, centering around a group of military explorers from the future Scandinavian union "Valhalla". For more information on the background, see our http://www.project-valhalla.org/Plot

The mod team currently has http://www.project-valhalla.org/Credits, and about 40 other contributors. The mod has been under development since mid-November 2008 and it's fast approaching the state where voice acting is the missing ingredient.

Voice acting:
The mod has about 20 characters with a total of about 700 lines of dialog. The characters range in age and profession from the young soldier Pauliina Frey to the old scientist Svante Arrhenius. For most of the characters we are going with a Scandinavian or north European dialect. Some of the Valhalla characters even have dialog lines in Finnish and Swedish, so knowledge on those languages is a plus. The mod also contains a number of North American characters, for which an American accent is preferred.

Audition information
Deadline for auditions: February 28, 2009 (We are entering closed alpha testing right now, and should be ready to start recording for real in two weeks)

Audio format: OGG, MP3 or WAV. Use high bit rates. Fallout 3 has a rather high standard on their recordings, and we wish to be up to par, so please try to record your samples in an environment with low background noise, and use a decent microphone.

Naming: Please name your voice files yourname_charactername.

Send auditions to: [email=voice-acting@project-valhalla.org]voice-acting@project-valhalla.org[/email] (max 20mb per e-mail)

Characters

General information
As stated previously, there are about 20 talking characters.
The military explorers, from now referred to as the "Valhalla landing party" mainly consists of soldiers and scientists. There is also a physician, a cook and some sailors.
The Valhalla landing party is wholly Scandinavian in origin, so a Scandinavian or northern European dialect of English is preferred to either British or American English.

We have 4+ North American characters who should preferably speak in a eastern North American accent (or "unaccented" American English) (Except for Lonnie Zamorra, see below).

Also, as per recommendation: !!Warning: some of the characters use strong language!! We will print the language "level" for every character below.

Also, every character will have a link to the character page on our project wiki, which contains more detailed information.

When recording the samples, just pretend that the (Player) lines are said by someone, make a short pause or whatever feels good.

North American characters

Mysterious man
-Mysterious man (Part of quest)
Language: Clean
Accent/Dialect: American English
Voice: M40+, Chain smoker, calm and eerie (or creepy).
http://www.project-valhalla.org/Mysterious_Man

Suggested dialog lines:
(Mysterious Man[Calmly]):I understand you are looking for Karl Siegbahn.

(Mysterious Man[Calmly]):I regret to inform you that he has moved on
and will no longer be a part of his old life.

(Mysterious Man[Calmly]):It would be best if you went back the way you came
and informed his other friends of this fact.

(Player):I see. Thank you for that information!

(Mysterious Man[Calmly]):I get the feeling that you do not fully trust me.
I will give you this recording made by Karl Siegbahn himself.

Kenneth Arnold
Language: Clean
Accent/Dialect: American English
Voice: Any voice suiting a male scientist is fine, surprise us!
http://www.project-valhalla.org/Kenneth_Arnold

(Arnold[Polite]):Sir, might I have a moment of your time?

(Player): How can I be of service?

(Arnold):[Pauses, looks around warily before continues.] My name is Kenneth Arnold.

I represent a group of scientists and investigators that needs your assistance.

(Player):Funny, so do I.

(Arnold):I am aware of that. You are working with a Professor Siegbahn I believe? Dr. Karl Siegbahn?

(Arnold):Our contacts in Europe radioed that he was on his way here. I am hoping that he made it.

(Player):Why yes, that is one of the scientists that I am working for.

(Arnold[Relieved]):Good. Professor Siegbahn is someone we wish to aid and protect.

Lonnie Zamorra
Investigator, part of quest
Language: Clean
Accent/Dialect: American English with pronounced Spanish accent if possible
Voice: Male, age between 25 and 50. Weakened.
http://www.project-valhalla.org/Lonnie_Zamorra
(Appears in 1 quest)

(Zamorra[Weak]):Who is there?[Warily looks at Player] Who are you? What do you want?

(Player): Your partner, Kenneth Arnold, sent me to help you.

(Zamorra[Weak]):I was bypassing the old toxic waste dumping ground when I picked up a radio signal.
It was unlike anything I have ever heard of before, like it was an alien distress call.
I followed it and found a trail of destruction and strange radioactive emissions.
This trail led me to a crashed flying saucer and dead ET pilot.

Matt Brown
Leader of a group of wasteland raiders.
Language: Explicit
Accent/Dialect: American English
Voice: Tough guy, male 25+
http://project-valhalla.org/Matt_Brown

Suggested dialog lines:
(Brown):Hold it right there soldier boy! One step closer and the b**** dies.

(Player):I'm here to broker a deal. You interested in trading one of
yours for her?

(Brown):A deal, huh? I get my man back and you get the b****. But
there are terms.

(Player):Terms? Like what?

(Brown):First, I keep her guns and armor.

(Player):I think the colonel will be happy enough to get her back safe.

(Brown):We do it on neutral ground, not in range of the soldiers or
their ship's guns.

(Player):Agreed. How about on the grounds in front of Rivet City?

(Brown):Agreed. Any sign of a double-cross and both of you are dead,
got it freelancer?

Generic raider
http://www.project-valhalla.org/Wyld_Dogz

We need some VA for generic events such as "The players is caught pick-pocketing" and "The player initiates combat". If you would like to voice a raider, just record some lines you believe are suitable and send them to us!

We do have two raiders, one male and one female, with the following lines:

(Murray): I'm wounded but glad to see you.

(Female Raider): Murray, honey, you got all your parts?

(Murray): Yeah, baby! Can't wait to get some nursing from you.

**Murray gets shot

(Female Raider[Screams]):Murray! He's dead!

Valhalla characters
To reiterate, we are looking for a Scandinavian or North European dialect for the characters below.

Peter Wessel
Expedition commander
Language: Clean
Accent/Dialect: Norweigan accented English, other Scandinavian accents okay.
Voice: Authorative, calm, male 45+
http://project-valhalla.org/Peter_Wessel

Suggested dialog lines:
**Background: The player has risked his/her life to get certain proof
about the fate of one of the Valhalla scientists
(Wessel[Neutral]):While I almost wish we left that foolish man to his fate,
I am grateful that you risked your life and found him.

(Wessel[Official]):I hereby present you with the Valhalla medal "F?r
tapperhet i f?lt"
meaning "For Valor in the Field" for your courageous and unselfish acts
to further the cause of the Valhalla expedition. You have well earned it.

Leiv
Ground force commander
Language: Strong
Accent/Dialect: Swedish accented English
Voice: Authorative, not-so-calm, male 30+
http://project-valhalla.org/Leiv

Suggested dialog lines:
(Leiv):First you need to prove that we can trust you.

(Player):A loyalty test just to do business with you? Why?

(Leiv):Another local like you came saying he and his people would help us.
He styled himself Captain Matt Brown of the company called the Wyld Dogz.

(Player):Let me guess, they betrayed your trust at the first sign of trouble.

(Leiv):We had been under attack and lost many men so his offer of help
was timely.
Against my better judgment I let them guard our outer perimeter.

(Player):So when the Muties attacked they cut and ran with their pay?

(Leiv[Angry]): Worse, they murdered two of my men and stole their
weapons.[Calms down]
They would've killed us all but Brown and his gang were caught between
the giants and our guns.

Johan Sandels
Ground force second in command
Language: Clean
Accent/Dialect: Swedish accented English, other Scandinavian accents okay.
Voice: Officer-ish, male 25+
http://project-valhalla.org/Johan_Sandels

Suggested dialog lines
(Sandels[Suspicious]): Do you think you can trifle with us? Who are you really?

(Player): I did not grow up in the wasteland. I have merely been exploring the region.

(Sandels[Neutral]):So you are educated and not a barbarian?
Maybe you can help us after all
You must speak with Colonel Leiv.

(Player):And he is where?

(Sandels[Authorative/Threatening]):He is in the infirmary in our
barracks. I am warning you.
Do not pull out any weapons or you will be shot immediately.

Matti Nyk?nen
Chief engineer
Language: Explicit
Accent/Dialect: Finnish accented English.
Voice: Tacltess, rough, male 50+ who smokes and drinks too much
http://project-valhalla.org/Matti_Nyk%C3%A4nen

Suggested dialog lines (probably requires someone speaking Finnish)
(Nykanen):En suosittele Antabusta kenellek??n.
Sen kanssa tulee ryyp?tess? ihan kammottava olo.

(Player):What did you say? I don't speak your lingo.

(Nykanen):Why not? You should. Everyone should speak Finnish. It
would make life easier.
I said that I don't recommend Antabus to anyone. Boozing with it makes
you feel just dreadful.

(Player):I imagine so. But I meant you should stop drinking booze at all.

(Nykanen[Amazed]): Preposterous! [Neutral] Say, you wouldn't be able
to get me some booze?

Antti Koivula
Junior officer, in charge of the dock
Language: Clean
Accent/Dialect: Finnish accented English
Voice: Friendly, somewhat unsure of self, male 25-30
http://project-valhalla.org/Antti_Koivula

Suggested dialog lines:
(Koivula[Wary]):Hello, you must be the local everyone is talking
about. I am Lt. Koivula.
I am in charge of naval stores. Can I ask you something?

(Player)Sure, what can I do for you?

(Koivula[Neutral]):You probably haven't been to sea but life aboard
ship is difficult.
Especially the food. Every day it is the same, hardtack and pickled herring.
Once a week we get some salt pork or some sort of mystery meat that
has been boiled gray.
It is no wonder that so many of the men turn to drink, some even drink
Nitromors.
So I want to get some variety to our diet.
If you could get me some local foods, say 10 items, I would be very
appreciative.
I have a limited supply of extra stores to trade with. Will you do it?

Svante Arrhenius
Senior scientist
Language: Clean
Accent/Dialect: Swedish accented english
Voice: Old weathered scientist, very proper, almost arrogant. Male 50+
http://project-valhalla.org/Svante_Arrhenius

Suggested dialog lines:
(Arrhenius[Neutral]):Ah, the Wastelander. What brings you to our lab?

(Player):What kind of research do you do here?[Jump:4]

(Arrhenius[Neutral]):We endeavor to cover a broad field of research.

(Arrhenius[Neutral]):Siegbahn is currently doing energy weapons research
and Dalen is working on automotives.

(Arrhenius[Neutral]):I myself am researching the field of power armors.

(Arrhenius[Neutral]):As a matter of fact there is something I want you
to do for me,
if you are interested.

Nils Dal?n

Junior scientist
Language: Clean
Accent/Dialect: Swedish accented English
Voice: Middle-aged but still excited about his work
http://project-valhalla.org/Nils_Dal%C3%A9n

Suggested dialog lines:
(Dalen):Hello! I am Professor Dalen.
You must be the local that Professor Arrhenius has spoken so highly of.
I hope you can be as helpful to me as you have been to him.
Are you up to doing a bit of investigating for me?

(Player):You understand that my services are not free...

(Dalen[Neutral]):Yes, I am a member of the government Trade Committee.
Trade indicates a mutual exchange for profit.
So you will be compensated for your efforts should you prove successful.

(Dalen): My position on the Senate provided me with the means to come here.
What interests my colleagues is how fusion technology was applied to
everyday life in pre-war America.
It amazes me how many ordinary Americans had automobiles.
They were quite absent in the European Commonwealth after the Middle
East fuel crisis.
Yet they are evident everywhere about here.

Karl Siegbahn
Junior scientist
Language: Clean
Accent/Dialect: Swedish or Norwegian accented English
Voice: Enthusiastic scientist. Friendly. Male 35+
http://project-valhalla.org/Karl_Siegbahn

Suggested dialog lines:
(Siegbahn[Happy]):How delightful to see you again!
The energy weapons you brought for me have proven to be well worth
scientific inquiry!

(Siegbahn[Cautious]):Say... You wouldn't be interested in helping me
with something
a bit...more...personal? [Neutral]
Still well within the boundaries of science, of course!

(Player):Whoa, for a second Doc I though you wanted me to set you up
with a hoker.
I'm glad it isn't anything that personal. For science, huh?

(Siegbahn[Cautious, Silently]):I happen to believe that there are
alien lifeforms
here on Earth. I need to get my hands on some proof their existence.

Liisa Louhiala
Ship physician
Language: Clean
Accent/Dialect: Finnish accented English
Voice: Sultry voiced woman nearing her prime
http://project-valhalla.org/Liisa_Louhiala

Suggested dialog lines:
(Louhiala[Neutral]):I spend most of my free time keeping all the men
at bay. Being one of the few women on this expedition can be quite
annoying.

(Louhiala[Neutral]):At least I don't have much of a problem with the
Boy's club...

(Player):What do you mean by "the Boy's club"?

(Louhiala[Neutral]):Ah, that's just my nickname for the group of
scientists we have on this expedition.

(Louhiala[Disapproving]):You might have noticed that they're like
little boys with little toys.

(Louhiala[Neutral]):Seems like a complete waste of time to me. I
haven't seen any result of their work since we got here.

Andreas Larsen
-Senior NCO, in charge of gate guards
Language: Clean
Accent/Dialect: Norwegian or Swedish accented English
Voice: Authorative, no-nonsense, powerful.
http://project-valhalla.org/Andreas_Larsen

Suggested dialog lines:
(Larsen):Halt! State your business here or be shot!

(Player): I am here in response to your radio message.

(Larsen): Ah, come forward to the gate then.

(Player[approaches Larsen]):

(Larsen):Stop, that is close enough.

(Player):Can I come in?

(Larsen):We have been under constant attack since we have arrived.
So we take few chances on visitors. Who are you?

Samo H?yh?
-Sniper, part of quest
Language: Strong
Accent/Dialect: Strong Finnish accent, not a good English speaker.
Voice: Can be your friend or your worst nightmare, a sniper/commando type
http://project-valhalla.org/Samo_H%C3%A4yh%C3%A4

Suggested Dialog lines:
(Hayha[Angry, in thickly accented English]):What do you want?

(Player):Col. Leiv has hired me to rescue Private Frey. He said to see you for what happened.

(Hayha[Angry, in thickly accented English]):I will tell you what happened. This piece of s*** and his friends butt-stroked her in the head.

(Player):Is that all? She went down with one hit?

(Hayha):Not one hit, many. They did worse to two more of our men. But she is a woman and they want to have fun with her.

(Player):So there is a chance that she is alive. What happened next?

(Hayha):I see them fleeing but only am able to shoot two of the bastards. I only wounded one ar**** so I can find out where they take her.

(Player):So you have a prisoner? Has he talked yet?

(Hayha):He says he cannot understand my English. You make him talk!

Pauliina Frey
-Guard
Language: Clean
Accent/Dialect: Finnish accented English
Voice: Female, 20, medium/deep voice.
http://project-valhalla.org/Pauliina_Frey

Suggested dialog lines:
**A raider near Frey's position is shot by a sniper
(Frey):That is Sergeant Hayha's handiwork.

(Player):I am glad he is on our side.

(Frey):Me too. Let me get my gear.

(Player):Go on ahead. I will see you later.

(Frey):Sure, I feel much safer now that they are dead and I have my weapon back.

Niklas Touminen
-Cook, part of quest.
Language: Clean
Accent/Dialect: Finnish accented English
Voice: Whiner, complains a lot
http://project-valhalla.org/Niklas_Touminen

Suggested dialog lines:
(Touminen):Welcome to my galley, Vinlander. Do you want some lutefisk
and hardtack?

(Player):No, I want food that when I eat it, it stays down.

(Touminen):I know how you feel.
Here I am a master chef and I am stuck serving the same crap every day.
What I wouldn't give for some new recipes.
Tell me what kinds of foods the locals prepare?

(Player):Well, there is Radroach stew. It tastes like old shoe
leather but is nourishing.

(Touminen):That sounds nasty.
People eat radioactive bugs? No, forget that.

Tommi Ekstedt
-Mess steward. Part of quest.
Language: Clean, but mentions in-game drugs
Accent/Dialect: Finnish accented English
Voice: Conspiratorial or polite, depending on context.
http://project-valhalla.org/Tommi_Ekstedt

Suggested dialog lines:
(Ekstedt):As steward I am over the liquor ration and I serve the food
from the galley.
Since you are not part of our expedition I would have to charge you
for food or drink.

(Ekstedt):Can I get you something?

(Player):Can you help me with directions?

(Ekstedt):Yes Sir. What are you looking for?

(Player):I need to get my items repaired.

(Ekstedt):Ah, you want to see our Chief Engineer then, also on the dock.
Be careful, he drank all his liquor ration and is in a foul mood.

Generic soldier

As with the generic raiders, just record some suiting lines, but remember: Scandinavian accent.

Generic sailor

Closing comments
First, thank you for having the patience to get through this wall of text. As we hope you can see, we are a very serious team, and we are working continuously on this mod, and we will make sure it is of high quality before we release it to the public.

We hope we have made some of you interested, and we will gladly give critique and suggestions for improvement for those of you who wish.

Should you be selected, you will be credited just like the rest of the team: On the home page, on a terminal in-game and possibly in a video cutscene.

Thank you for your time, and we hope to hear from you (in both meanings).

Yup, but this thread has better mark-ups, and is written by our Voice Acting manager and not by me.
We also changed lay-out and added more characters, added accents, dialects, contact information, etc...

Even though someone already recorded the voices, and they sound better, don't hesitate to try to create a sample and send it to us anyway.
