Voice Actors for Skyrim

Post » Sat Feb 05, 2011 5:59 pm

I loved hearing Patrick Stewart, Sean Bean, Terence Stamp, (etc) in Oblivion. Quality voice acting is always important to me in games - the Soul Reaver series had me hooked because of all those amazing thespians!

So firstly, does anyone know any famous actors who are definitely involved in Skyrim?

Secondly, who do you think would be perfect as a voice actor for Skyrim?

Well we know that one of the main characters is being voiced by Max von Sydow.

And I'd love for David Hayter to be involved. I love his voice work as Snake in MGS.

I think the perfect voice actors would be as many as possible, for each famous voice they put into a game they could have gotten 5-10 "normal" voice actors for NPCs. The Old man who is in the trailer and is in the game might be a super guru or what not when it comes to voice acting, but I personally don't find all that great. better than "normal" voice actors sure, but it's not worth it if a whole race ends up having the same voice when all NPCs could have had their own voice.

No fewer than 80 unknowns who would work for the money normally spent on one celebrity, thus reducing the tendency of every third NPC to sound alike. (If not every other NPC)

All very excellent suggestions. Might I add Sophia Myles and Bronagh Gallagher from Tristan & Isolde for two excellent female voices. I love their Irish accents, and they'd fit excellently into a fantasy medieval game such as ES. :)

Max Von Sydow is a definite yes. He will be voiceing Esbern.

As for who else well I'm not really sure but I'm hoping at least that Wes Johnson will have some sort of role in Skyrim. I enjoyed his voice work in Oblivion when he did the voice for Lucian Lachance, heck he did the voice for all the Imperial Males (Not counting Martin), and Sheogorath!!!!!! do I really need to say more about how awesome Wes Johnson is.

I also wouldn't mind the people who did voice work in Oblivion to also come back and have some sort of role in Skyrim. Even though Craigs voice can be annoying at times I though he did a good job with the elves although I think he did a bit too much with the Elves. He should've only had done the Dark Elves and maybe some of the Wood Elves. Also the guy who did the Male Redguard's voice was excellent as well, I hope he too is brought back in Skyrim. Beth is a bigger company then they were 5 years ago so we should see a dynamic group of people voiceing this game. Hopefully they at least bring back some people who did voice work in Oblivion. Even though one voice actor may have done 1 race or 2 races the voice over work itself was still well done.

I not only don't care who they use - I'd much, MUCH prefer that they use unknowns, and for at least two reasons.

First - I find recognizable voices distracting. Uriel Septim, for instance, is never fully and uniquely Uriel Septim to me, since there's some part of him that's always Patrick Stewart. I'd rather that his voice was HIS voice instead of Patrick Stewart's voice.

Second, and more importantly, I want as many different voices as possible in the game. Big name voices = more expensive = less budget left over to pay for other voice actors. I'd rather they spent the money on a bunch of unknowns than blow it on one big name.

David Hayter rocks too much. If he could use Dragonshouts, the awesomeness of his voice would destroy the entire land of Skyrim.

+1.

Hearing Patrick Stewart and Sean Bean added absolutely nothing to Oblivion for me beyond "Oh hey, I recognize him!". Give me loads of good unknown voice actors. The Legacy of Kain was awesome! Was nice hearing 'Kain' (Dunno actor name) voice Loghain in Dragon Age: Origins... nice, but added nothing other than constantly making me think of Loghain as the immortal, manipulative vampire with silver hair and a startling green complexion! :D

Imagine no possessions - I wonder if you can, no need for greed or hunger. A brotherhood of man..

So yeah just for fun, imagine you could get any actor + however many unknown voice actors you need.

(there is a space outside the box you know - embrace the intellectual freedom it brings)

Hehehe, you're funny. I would lose a lot of respect for ES if they cast miley cyrus or lady gaga to voice the characters... However, Amy Lee, the lead singer of Evanescence would be awesome to hear in the game, especially if she had a singing role at some point. i know it's not gonna happen, but it would be cool. :)

Wes Johnson is amazing! I loved how he did Sheogorath's voice. And speaking of people from Oblivion, I would love to hear Sean Bean again (his voice & accent make me melt...

Indeed, it would be stange indeed to hear Sean Connary as a shopkeeper in Skyrim. WTF is 007 doung in Skyrim!? If all voice actors would be unknowns to everyone, Skyrim would be totally unique.

Sean Bean is awesome as I thought he did a great job with Martin Septim. I doubt he'll be in Skyrim but you never know.

I can do a pretty decent Dragonshout...
Neighbours seem to be complaining, though

Seriously, check out the Gameinformer feature on voice casting in Skyrim, if you haven't.
Good stuff.

I'm sure he won't be, but I would just about die to hear his dreamy voice as Martin's ghost returning to help you, or something.... I'd play that part over and over and over... You get the point! ;)

They've already said each race has its own voice actors, so this post adds absolutely nothing.

So, on topic, Max Von Sydow is gonna play Esbern. This is the guy who played the old priest in The Exorsist so....yeah.

As somebody has said 80+ unknowns to stop repetitiveness would be a step in the right direction. As for WHO id like to hear I have to admit it would have to be me :)
I would be honoured to have just 1 line as a generic npc in skyrim

I would very much like them to get that guy that did the dark elf voices in morrowind, he was amazing, and definitely helped develop my ideas about what dark elves were like generally. In contrast the dark elves in oblivion were absolutely crap, as was the guy they got to voice them (along with 2/3rds of the rest of the voices in the game, which were apparently almost all voiced by him -_-).

Seriously though, I would love to see any number of those older generation of english actors that just hold so much weight in their voice, and fit perfectly into these fantasy type worlds. So basically, all the good actors from lotr - christopher lee (saruman), Ian Mckellen (gandalf) etc etc. These are the perfect calibre of actor to use for skyrim imo.

Personally I don't understand the idea that known actors pull you out of the game - if that's your argument, then does that mean you can't watch films with known actors without having the same effect?? Just seems bizarre - I find when they get these legendary actors, that it helps me alot to get into the game, because of the outstanding quality of the voice acting.
I would hate there to be 100s of average voice actors. I would prefer say 40 or 50 that were just really solid, and don't make me cringe when I here them acting (ala oblivion/ fallout 3()

Nice answer boog! I too would love to have an honorary line of dialogue somewhere in the game.

I completely agree Sockola. Sorry Americans, but your accent sounds so phoney to me in fantasy games! That pulls me out of the game way more than a recognisable actor - they are famous for a reason.. maybe they're good actors?
