Voice Actors revealed!

Post » Fri Nov 27, 2015 4:01 pm

From what I've heard from the gameplay, Courtenay Taylor's done a fantastic job. In fact I'll likely play as her just because I like her voice acting so much.

That said, Mr. Delaney seems to have done a good job too. I guess people are hating on him because he's not as accomplished as Courtenay or other voice actors.

Sad thing is that Mark Meer is a really talented voice actor; I suspect he was seriously lacking in direction with Shepard--or else was directed, for reasons that baffle, to play the role flat. :/

At any rate, I hate the idea of voice acted protagonists in a sandbox RPG, but at least the actors are decent. Taylor I know as Jack and Juhani, and as long the player character isn't dropping f-bombs every line like Jack I think I'm good. I've never heard of Delaney nor seen any of his listed works, but he sounded good enough in the trailer--rather reminded me a bit of Troy Baker as Booker DeWitt at times. I think I'm more accepting of this in the context of Fallout where (at least in FO3/FNV and clearly continuing into FO4) the protagonist has always been someone at least relatively specific; this could never work in TES. (Frankly, I may be among the few, but I really don't care for voice acting in TES in general.)

It's probably not fair to evaluate based just on just these reels though;

Here's his gaming mo-cap reel:

Taylor is in my top 10 Females that I would want to voice my character. Although I'm not a fan of Voiced Protagonist especially in a non linear game like Fallout.

Yeah sorry I have played DA:I 3 times completely with 4 other characters that I have't completed with and I only use the British actors for my voice and each one of my characters is DIFFERENT.

So yeah personal experience tells me you are wrong.

I have played ME1 20 times and about 15-16 of those characters have had different motivations different concerns and fears. They have all played with different personalities. I have replayed a few of characters as i wanted to replay the characters to bring into Me2. It is a case of refreshing myself with the character and the story before taking the character to the next game in the franchise.

So again experience says you are so wrong. Mass effect is a rpg on RAILS so its replay value is less than a sandbox and if people can replay ME games they can replay FO4. But this doesn't matter as it doesn't fit your personal narrative.

I hated Jack with a passion, she's by far the worst party member in any game I ever played. Her other roles didn't really strike a bell but I'm keeping an open mind, didn't hear much from her in the E3 trailers.

If you wanted jack to be static and not grow then jack in Me3 will svck because jack in Me3 isn't the angry woman she was when you first met her. She has found herself and found a way to contribute beyond that ball of rage destroy everything in her path. If you like to see character develop then you like the way jack was written.

I'm definitely on the fence.

I hope they at least make quirky Fallout dialogue

I'm looking forward to hearing voiced dialogue. If they keep the writing good, I'll be happy. All we've heard thus far is exposition with a robot and talking to a dog.

AWESOME! I love Jack's voice in ME2 and 3. Hope my FO4 gal with the same voice has the same attitude heh.

Yea, reading what roles the female protagonist VA did fills me with hope, I like a lot of the characters she did.

Taylor did Juhanni from KOTOR and Jack from Mass Effect 2, very happy that she was chosen.

It wasn't a negative mate. I find Lazlo entertaining. It was the high pitched over the top voice he was using.

Regarding the female, I haven't seen a negative comment about her voice at all. So it seems Beth got that one right maybe :)

Thank you.

Honestly, his best performances there were the commercials. Didn't care for his cartoon voices and he's certainly no Frank Welker when it comes to the animal kingdom.

Not bad. Not the best I've ever seen, but at least he can actually emote. Maybe he's just being directed horribly.

So they've got unknown actors who will give it their all and get to make it big instead of huge celebs that will svck down the majority of the budget and make everyone say "Captain Uriel Septim Picard! I know that voice!"

Good on you Bethesda. This is exactly how I think it should be done.

Agreed. Saddest part is, I'm a huge fan of Patrick Stewart, but his performance as Emperor Uriel Septim was incredibly insipid and added absolutely nothing to the game--except for the intro trailer, which really should have opened, "Emperor's Log, Tamriel Date..." since that's rather what it sounded like. :P Sean Bean, as the only good voice actor in the game despite having a dull character, did add something though--one voice I didn't have to cringe at. :P

Besides, even if she's mostly done supporting roles, I wouldn't exactly call Courtenay Taylor "nobody," even if she's not as recognizable as Jennifer Hale or Troy Baker*.

*Though maybe it's just the games I play, but I only know him as Booker DeWitt and Kai Leng, so I'm not really getting the "Troy Baker steals all the lead roles" hate...I loved him as both DeWitt and Leng, personally.

To be honest im not all that up to date on the actor celeb stuff. I only know Patrick Stewart because he has a voice like that of a god and plays a starship captain who I would follow into hell if he was a real person. But these actors didn't really jump out at me as big names, despite my limited knowledge. Maybe they aren't nobodies, but this still seems like its their big break, and like Patrick Stewart never having done anything outside of theatre acting they are going to give it their absolute best and deliver a great preformance.

Like I said before, I've never heard of the Delaney guy, but Courtenay Taylor has done a number of supporting roles for both Bethesda and BioWare, most notably Juhani in Knights of the Old Republic and Jack in Mass Effect 2 and Mass Effect 3. She's probably not one of the more recognizable voice actors like Jennifer Hale or Gray DeLisle who act in pretty much everything ever, but most people who play RPGs and pay attention to voice actors have probably at least seen her name. As far as I'm aware, though, this is her first leading role.

I think this would be Delaneys first really chunky voicing role for a Video game... hes done a lot of other work in the field. Im looking forward to hearing a voiced protagonist.

Frankly guys, you dont know how lucky you are. Ive got a friend who loves video games, but is Deaf so never actually gets to hear any of these voice actors anyway. He has the collectors edition on preorder and was just hoping there would be a subtitles option which Im sure there will be.

i like that they are both experienced (in the way of voice acting) but not too well known (like FemShep vioce actress.) voice actors. No matter what i do, in FO3 when James/Dad talks, i can only imagine Liam Neeson, and it makes the character seem not as good as he could be, no offense for Liam's voice acting quality. Same thing with the voice actor of Raul (FNV), it just keeps pulling you out of the game going "He!! thats this and that actor."

Also, some grade AAA movie star trying to do voice acting only to sound like a stiff just isnt good either.

Lucky him. When I have to endure Christian Svensson's Farengar Secret-Fire or Michael Gough's Heimskr in Skyrim I almost wish I was deaf too.
