Voice : MP3 or Wav ?

Post » Fri Nov 18, 2011 5:41 am

WHY does the geck sometimes ask for voicefiles in .wav and sometimes in .mp3 ?
What a waste of time to convert each file one by one depending of the geck mood of the day...
Is there a natural explanation or is it just to annoy me ?

Really no way to make it read vorbis ogg like the basegame itself ?

Don't bother with trying to listen to voices in the GECK. I've learned over the years that it's not worth it... simply convert to OGG and test in-game. Here's my workflow for getting voices and .lips in-game:

  • Rename the .wav files I get from actors to their proper file names for the quests
  • Move the renamed .wav files to /Oblivion/Data/Voice for .lip generation, then generate .lip files
  • Convert the properly named .wav files to .ogg
  • Move both the .ogg and .lip files into the proper voice folder

And that seems to work pretty well. Also, want to save a LOT of time getting .lip files in game? In the TESCS, go to Gameplay in the menu bar, then "Facial Animations...". From there, click yes, and BOOM! You've got .lip files in ten seconds or so. It might not approximate lip animations as well as writing the dialogue out would, but ah well.

Thank you. As the game demands a certain fileype and the voices can not be heard in the geck I never tried to use ogg files.

Precisely, I wanted to write an add-on for your mod and noticed you used both .ogg and .wav. in the soundfiles.
By the way, congratulations for this expansion

edit : the tip on facial animation is very good. In the localized version the lip doesn't synchronize wih the speech anyway and the result is as good as generating each file manually, and faster. Thanks again
