Rumors?
Speculation?
Does anyone know how much of a voice acting budget TES games usually require?
Now that you mention it, Edward James Olmos might do a pretty good job as a voice actor in an Elder Scrolls game.
If there's a game set in Hammerfell and I don't hear Michael Mack anywhere, I'm not going to be a happy camper.
I'll second that. And I also missed him in Skyrim. It doesn't feel right without him.
...As the voice of the player-character...
I hope we get some Pee Wee Herman combat taunts: "I know you are, but what am I?" ... "Say it, don't spray it." ... "That's my name, don't wear it out." ... "Take a picture, it'll last longer."
A worry of mine would be them spending too much of their VA budget to get a certain person/small group of people, only for us to end up getting very little NPC dialogue variation again.
Exactly! I would spread the (huge) budget for 200+ voice actors (by no means amateurs, I mean real actors just not the usual expensive Hollywood stars).
An army of voice actors isn't needed. Most voice actors are capable of doing many voices. What Bethesda is probably lacking is a good director. A good director can coax some really amazing performances out of even a moderately talented actor.
200+ voice actors is more than most games have. Here are the numbers of voice actors in some recent AAA RPGs:
Dragon Age: Origins - 148
Dragon Age 2 - 103
DA: Inquisition - 133
Mass Effect - 74
Mass Effect 2 - 99
Mass Effect 3 - 154
The Witcher - 87
The Witcher 2 - 40
Morrowind - 14
Oblivion - 13
Skyrim - 90
Fallout 3 - 37
Fallout: New Vegas - 70
One thing I've always found strange is that Skyrim didn't even feel like it had 90 voice actors to me. Am I the only one who felt/feels this way?
The thing is 20 of the 90 voice actors voice 80% of the NPCs. The other 70 voice actors voice 1 or two characters each.
