A voiced Protagonist?

Post » Fri Nov 27, 2015 12:29 am

As long as it didn't cost them dialogue options or writing then sure why not? But if it's exactly like past Fallouts where you pick your line of dialogue and instead of just hearing nothing your PC would just say the line, then why can't there be an option to turn the voice off? It would really be simple. Unless that's not the way Beth did it and thus I would be none to happy.

The more I've been thinking about it, probably not. I'm picky about my character and would be picky on who voiced my character and how it was voiced. If they do have a voiced character, have the option to turn it off and be mute.

Only if they write huge amounts of dialogue like the WItcher 3's. If the dialogue is poorly written, lacking RP choices and skill checks, *and* voiced with an annoying voice, then I'm out.

Actually another theory - just as valid as the voiced player theory, is that the dog is telepathic and what you heard was just the sound of the player's mind being read by the dog.
I think a voiced player is not going to happen in this game - they didn't build a new engine from scratch or rip out the quest guts of the old engine to make this game. End of story.

I don't think ya need to make any huge engine changes to support voiced PC, heck NPC have voice, so why couldn't the pc have it?

Why is there not a simple "I just don't want it in Fallout"-option?

A voiced protagonist limits the role. What if there is only a male voice? What about playing an older or younger character? What about playing a character who is mute? What about playing a character who has a tentative scared voice because they are scared wimp?

If a voice is given to my character, than I can not provide the voice, or more importantly the word choices I would want to use in a situation.

I don't' see it happening.

I don't see how you could possibly RP those characters in any Bethesda game, including New Vegas. At least not without ever interacting with any character ever. Whether you imagine your character being meek and quiet or overly hammy, NPCs will react the exact same way.

It's a double edged sword. A set PC (if he has a voice, he is pretty much set to a certain standards regarding the story and how he's able interact with it) has the potential to add a great deal to the narrative (thinking about Planescape Torment here), but it also limits the character possibilities a great deal due to the preconceived characterization that the voice brings with it, and it's not really a Fallout thing to do.

I feel like, if anything, it'll be an optional feature that you can turn off. I really don't think Bethesda would go this whole route of having your character strictly be male and strictly have *this* voice, etc. It's very unlike their past games and I'm 100% sure they're aware that people enjoy the mostly clean-slate history you get when you get dropped into one of their games. I highly doubt they'll stray too far from that.

Wait what!????....

..."Voiced characters are a plague on the games industry" are you kidding me?. This type of mentality is so stupid.

I keep reminding myself that this is only a rumor. I really do not want a voiced protagonist in my Fallout. I wouldn't go so far as to say it's a plague because it's alright and works is some games.

At this point, I guess I wouldn't mind playing as a predetermined character or gender, as long as they are silent. And providing the rumors are true but I hope they are not.

Or Laura Bailey. Her voice as the Boss in Saints Row III and IV is perfect, IMO. And she made the grunts for the female PC in NV.

I'm kind of tired of the silent protagonist of Bethesda's open world games. Voiced choice making would be a refreshing change I would welcome. We may hve less quests as a result, but more quality over quantity.

I'd like an option to turn off my voice at least.

I think we WILL have a voice...but this will be his/her dialogue

"Ugh."

"Ow."

"Oof."

"Hrngh."

"Argh!"

"Gaaahhh..."

And maybe, just maybe, the ocassional "S--t!"

A voiced character means more cost to the game as in having to pay for a male and female voice actor. It also means less dialogue, which means less quests and so on. I also enjoy imagining the voice of my character, I won't be happy with whatever voice they come up with. So I don't want it.

I can't answer the poll because none of the options accurately reflect my sentiments.

I don't want the PC to be voiced in games like Fallout or The Elder Scrolls. Games where you make and build your character and give them the personality you want them to have.

I have no problem with games like Bioshock Infinite giving a voice to the Booker DeWitt, a character with a past and personality that have been defined by the story.

If the protagonist is voiced then I have a pretty good idea what sort of mod I'll be watching out for first.

It's.... hard to say. It's something that Bethesda has never tried before, so it's not like I don't want to see it tried out, but... I don't know, I hope it doesn't limit dialogue options.

If it can be shut off, that's cool, but... I really have no opinion on it honestly. In Skyrim I thought the lack of a voice was a bit awkward at times.

Unfortunately, it is too late. We should have taken the Kotaku leak more seriously and outright demand BGS to stop this bs before it's set in stone. That ship has sailed, now it's time to [censored] and moan about it, so at least they'll spare us the voiced protagonist in TES VI.

I try my best to lie to myself, that Mr 111 is actually an attempt at a "deep" companion akin to Serana in Dawnguard, but then there is the leak that clearly names him as the player. Also, they put his three words at the end of the trailer, that was basically to communicate that "your protagonist is voiced, how cool is that, now go preorder!" For [censored]'s sake they put the iconic "War never changes" line somewhere in the middle, clearly to make space for the voiced protagonist reveal at the end. Another note, by the by: No way you can shut it off. They hired a semi big name voice actor, they're going to force him down your throat, no matter how much you beg for the option to silence him. I wouldn't be surprised if they somehow made it so you can't even properly mod it out.

What happened to the other thread with an almost identical name, but a better worded poll?

No I don't think voiced protags are a plague on gaming. I DO think it's a plague on the Fallout series though,

Technically, the PC has always been voiced. We only just heard his/her pained grunts or roars when we do a charge attack with bare fists.

Feel much the same about the ending line.

Though I would have actually thought it was a nice touch if Ron Perlman had said it. Wouldn't have wanted him to be the voice of the protagonist either, but it would have been a better touch than the voice they used.
